I briefly spoke with someone else about this and we hit a brick wall. So i'm going to throw the question out to everyone else.

Why are we doing this?
Or better yet. How many of you are genuinely interested in whatever the police are after? And no, getting to it first doesn't count as a reason.

We're starting a war with a paranoid police force over a supposed alien invasion and a bit of gossip. If this threat is supposedly that terrible, why hasn't someone recorded evidence and sent it off to various world leaders yet?

We're a disorganised network. Over half of the users are teenagers. Most of us have likely never met face-to-face. Why are we suddenly more fitting for this 'job' than the trained professionals?

Silly question. Totally unimportant.

If these pulses or whatever are parts of another life, right? And some people have super powers or... whatever, right?

Does anyone remember doing anything totally awful? Like is anyone a destroyer of worlds or serial killer or stuff like that? I don't care or anything, I mean it's not like it's who you are now, I'm just wondering if that's a thing. I need to figure out the range of what's possible here to brace myself. Just in case--like I don't want to suddenly remember bathing in blood and have a heart attack.

The idiocy of some people astounds me. This is a library. Not a morgue. No you cannot use the empty shelves to put bodies on until they can be taken away.

[ there's a small pause as she reaches up to rub at her forehead. she sighs ]

Books have to go back there. The sprinkler systems went off, and a water main broke... the carpet's got to be pulled out and replaced... there was a shelving unit we knew the anchors needed fixing, but for some reason the director kept leaving it out of the budget...

We're down a reference librarian, by the way, so if you know of anyone, they can send their resumes in...

[ she sounds halfway between being extremely upset or close to laughter. ]

But you can't put bodies on the shelves. In the library. Near me. We're a communications centre in an emergency, not a... a. Well. Anyway. We're sorting books out in the parking lot right now. The books have to go back on the shelves eventually. In order. It's been almost impossible trying to convince people of that.

[ For context an hour or so prior to making this post, Derek gave in let his echoed howl happen, which ended up being a little bit louder than expected. Loud enough to be heard roughly halfway across the city. Give or take a few blocks.

To those further away, it would have sounded like an eerie but passable wolf howl. To those closer to the university grounds, there would have had an added ‘rumbling’ to the sound, lower in pitch and more reminiscent of a growling noise.
]

One of these days I’d like an echo that isn’t traumatic or problematic. No more strange ‘abilities’ that aren’t very useful. No more ‘visions’ of dying or killing someone. Something simple and unimportant for once. Or at least something with instructions.

We can all just agree that the ‘mysterious’ sound was a wild animal, right? And move on without acknowledging it further than that.

Of all the things, there's now cops on the LCU grounds. Which probably isn't new info, but still. Text just does not convey my distaste for this situation but it's not as if I can sit in the faculty office chatting away to my phone about this. That and someone could have a glass to the door for all I know.

I think perhaps any faculty on here should have a meeting, see if we can't figure something out here. Normally I'd think that if the students had nothing to hide, they'd have nothing to worry about, but if this isn't sitting right with me - and I've only ever had one parking fine - then something might be going down.

Or I could sit here, drink copious amounts of coffee (which I'm two cups away from as it is), and see if I can't figure out some assignment details.

I'd rather it was the previous option. I've been that bad at keeping tabs on things I'm not even sure who's on here.

Hello, fellow numbers. I have a question for you all.

How do you balance work and school with monitoring our situation?

I haven't had time to check the network in a week! It's very disappointing, because this is by far what I see as the most important part of my life now, but I have to keep up appearances by keeping my grades steady. At this point I feel like I could miss the outbreak of war with how long I have to spend on schoolwork! And that's not even accounting for chores, piano practice, and my biweekly film night with Mother. I'd rather be engaged fully in the "numbers club" than have to avoid suspicion by keeping my normal busy schedule. :( How do you keep up without arousing suspicion by deviating from your expected routine?

Oh, and I hope you're all doing well, by the way!! :-D Happy weekend!!

Before we begin, allow me to make a few things clear. I've reviewed the archives thoroughly, so there's no need for edification. I've given it some thought and come to terms with its existence, so there's no need for explanation. As such, all that remains is an introduction.

There. That should be sufficient, hmm? So with that settled, I'd like to ask the network's opinion on a matter.

[ she leans forward, her blue-eyed gaze intensifying. ]

What it is that makes something "true?" Suppose a man says his wife will die tomorrow. The next day, she develops a freak cough and passes away. Were his words "the truth?" The statement was true in retrospect, of course, but it seems to have been by chance. Now suppose the same man says the same words - but when the disease does not kill her, he takes matters into his own hands. Are his words now the truth, now that he has ensured their validity? What if he intends to kill her, but dies himself? Perhaps it is best to just consider him on that first day, before his wife's fate has been decided. What is it that decides, in that moment, if he is telling the truth?

[ the beginnings of a smile spread across her face. it is not entirely pleasant. ]

Thank you for your time.

[ Adrian had found out the water's true nature a little too late. He cursed himself for not having had the initiative to check the network earlier but that frustration paled in comparison to what he was going through now.

An incessant, grating giggle. The sound of it over time began to seem alien to him; almost sinister in a way. He had had no choice but to leave work early and go home. He sat alone in his apartment, curtains shut (the light bothered him these days) and in his solitude he experienced that first echo he had seen once again.

The death of a burning woman who had called out his name.

He had only recently pushed that image from his mind and now it had come back to haunt him once again. Words couldn't express the overwhelming sense of loneliness that consumed him and, chuckling quietly to himself, Adrian grabbed an old bill envelope and began to doodle.

At first it was just a few wisps of fire, but as time went on the drawing began to take form. It was the woman and in the background an ominious-looking castle.

Subconsciously, Adrian added in his string of network numbers.

As if it were some cry for help.

Hello.

I will spare you the customary stuttering and gawking that is the socially-acceptable way of introducing oneself here. Assume that I have spent a very instructive morning familiarizing myself with this system and reading the available documentation. Because I have. If I needed evidence that something is afoot, the inexplicable bout of mania I had earlier today would have been enough. Laughing gas in the water supply. How disturbing.

That said, I notice that Thunder Co has been repeatedly mentioned, yet there has been little consolidated information on it or its involvement. As a gift to you, I've decided to remedy this. I've assembled my findings in a suitable format. No need to thank me.

Well this is new, and I certainly didn't expect to find a community or whatever this is here. Most likely some student project? Hard to say when everything written appears to be random. Pretty well made though, doesn't seem glitchy and by that I mean it hasn't melted my phone yet.

I'll get around to testing that out on someone else's phone.

[Bruce isn't exactly sure in what he's meant to even be saying in here.]

I guess that's it then? Unless there's actually a reason for this. Also, if you're in the Thermodynamics seminar this week, please remember your papers are due.

And in advance - no, your dog did not eat it.

[Candy sounds a bit out of breath.] Uh, so...people have probably noticed this already, but I think something's wrong with the water. I had to leave work early because I couldn't stop laughing and I think I literally cracked a rib, I dunno. Also my laugh is really weird now...

Listen, just--don't drink tap water! It's like laughing gas. Laughing liquid! ...Heh. Pffffft hu hu hu hu hu hushit.
