[open] If Santa Claus isn't coming to town, we have to go and find him.
Attention! By popular vote the Big Finale has been postponed!
Who: Everyone!
What: As announced, the NSCG+friends have been called to Lapland! There, they travel North, hunt down some kidnappers and finally discover...
When: 13th-19th 24th of January after Toushiro and Dani's post.
Where: Lapland
Warnings: Abduction of children, scary Santa Clauses, violence, one instance of (not graphically described) brutally murdered reindeer
On the David Graibiger and Monika Hallbach will greet the numbered in Rovaniemi and together they will all get on a bus northwards. Up there, they will all room in a few cabins, each with two four-person-bedrooms; food will be provided and the beds are made, but they'll have to cook for themselves. TV is available in the living room/kitchen of each cabin, but the internet connection sucks. Up there, they will be taught how to drive a car in the snow, how to drive a snowmobile, how to shoot a rifle if they have no combat power (for self defense). They will then be tasked with one of the following things:
1. People with combat powers: Go out there and hunt down the kidnappers! If those people seek for long enough, they will find:
- Haggard, wild looking old men with unkempt beards who are either dressed in red santa's clothes or have been jammed into green fur suits, their faces painted green with what appears to be markers. These men are feral: They will run away but, if attacked, use hands and teeth to fight, and not be afraid of injuring a person in any way. They are superhumanly strong, but seem to be incapable of human speech - they can seemingly neither speak nor understand what is said.
If a child of up to 14 years is with the group, they are much more likely to find one of these as the beings are seeking out children. They will try to get their hands on and run away with the child in question.
2. People without combat powers: They will be sent on various trips to look at sightings, talk to people, etc. These include, but are not limited to:
- Talk to the parents of abandoned children. There isn't much information to be had from the conversations themselves, but keen numbered will realized that there are vermini in the bedrooms of the vanished children...
- Checking out a flock of reindeer that was bitten to death - yet whatever killed them doesn't seem to have eaten anything. Disturbingly enough, the brave researcher will realize that these were human teeth that killed them...
- Checking out an abandoned excavation site. The only description is that the mad guy who just recently started it (no, nobody knows who he was or why he did it or how he got the permission) hasn't be seen in almost a month now and the workers left for Christmas and didn't return after it. The place is full of vermini, but vermedi can also be found. What they will find too is a letter in Russian, written by the two last guards of the place, in which they resign from their spot, quoting that none of their tasks, which they describe as "watching lunatics and guarding the rise of a monster", was in the job description and that they just aren't paid enough. If someone wants to try, these guards can be tracked down, just comment to the Lapland plot post and ask for more information.
3. Everyone:
- Captured not!santas and not!grinches, after having been tied up or locked up or something similar, need to be watched. And questioned, but really, they will only be violent and still not say a thing or show intelligence above a scared badger. The only way to get any information out of them will be to set one free and hope that they lead the numbered to the place that they live in, but through trial and error one who attempts that will realize that they'll only return there once their mission of kidnapping a child is accomplished.
4 And last but not least
- Much more MUNDANE and nothing that they will strictly be tasked with but: Cooking! Fighting over the shower, throwing things at the snoring person in the next bed. Learning how to shoot, learning driving, petting reindeer, fun in the snow, do you want to build a snowman... go wild!
Please start your own threads and head over to the Lapland plot post if you have questions, need more information on something, want an NPC, want more tasks, etc.

You said it yourself, Amy.
It is someone else who lived through it. We are not them. In my case, I sometimes rather wish I was. Satsuki Kiryuin... would know better what to do in this than Saretha Kaiser, I feel.
However... we must handle the hands we're dealt. Which does mean borrowing whatever it is we can from those lives, and bettering our own.
no subject
[Amy looks down, taking that in. She can't deny Saretha has a point... she always does. But she needs a moment to absorb it, to understand it]
You're right. I'm not Aila. I've lost people, but... I had a family that loved me. My brothers... my mom... I can't expect to know what it was like, being alone. And I shouldn't be expected to. But she has helped me appreciate the things I have...
[she closes her eyes]
But it's not just her, Saretha. Everyone I met becoming a Numbered helped me become a better person. Especially you... you did more than give me a job opportunity. If we're going to talk about us bettering our lives...
[she opens her eyes, giving Saretha a warm smile, her cheeks blushing slightly]
... you're one of the people who's helped me do that most of all.
no subject
To be honest, that's not a compliment I ever expected to receive. When I hired you, I...
[She purses her lips.]
I still saw people as "resources." As potential tools I could use. I admired your strength and potential, yes - but I saw it and everyone else as a means of furthering my own ends.
Sometime, that changed. I can't even be certain of when, but... If I've somehow managed that much for you, then that's good.
no subject
I'm glad... I could change that for you too, then.
... Because... I definitely want to be more than a resource. I respect you, I care about you, I...
[she stops short, her breath hitching. She'd said "I care about you", and it was just... hanging in the air now. Her face turned red, and she suddenly had trouble meeting Saretha's eyes]
I... I don't take it back. I meant that. Every bit of it. You were one of the people who reinforced that I should be decisive.
no subject
In truth, she'd long sort of suspected something of the sort. At first, she hadn't thought anything of it. Yet things changed. Her perspective, changed. Actually having that hanging in front of her, for once- actually, for a second time in under a month, Saretha isn't quite sure what to do with herself. Yet still, she finds herself talking.]
If you believe, yourself, that you should be decisive... Then you should be. Without question, or hesitation, Amy.
no subject
But... that... that was something else. And Amy felt a kind of swelling in her heart. Saretha... Saretha had always challenged her, hadn't she? Taken the drive inside Amy that was always there, and tried to push it further.
It seemed that this would be no different.
Amy sucked in a deep breath, and leaned forward.]
Without... question. Or hesitation.
[with that repeated, she leaned even further forward and attempted to kiss Saretha firmly upon the lips]
no subject
She's not entirely sure what to think, and her mind is racing more than a little bit, for someone so often so certain about everything.
For the moment though, this is enough. She'll let Amy decide what it is she wants to do, or say, next.]
no subject
She takes hold of Saretha's shoulders, and holds the kiss for a few moments longer. After that, she pulls away, though her face is still very near Saretha's all the same]
... I know this changes things, completely. But... it's something I want... You're something I want.
I told someone a few days ago, that there was someone I'd do anything for. You're that person, Saretha... and... and I want to be the same for you...
[there were tears in the corner of Amy's eyes, even as she smiled] It feels so corny to be saying it like this, but... I love you...
no subject
No... things changed. Saretha found herself getting oddly attached to her, in a way she couldn't quite comprehend. She felt a responsibility to take care of her, comfort her when the younger girl's brother died. She relied on her, and depended on her much more than she realized. She expected her to be there, not just for business purposes, but... for her.
Saretha can't really pinpoint the time in which she started to care about Amy as Amy, but the "when" there isn't really important anymore.
As the kiss finally breaks, she gives a long breath, eyes opening to meet hers.]
You are. [It comes out as a murmur, far softer than anyone around here's probably heard her speak, even Amy. Saretha's hand drifts up to her cheek.] You are that person. You are the... first person I knew that cared about me, truly, and not as an asset. An heir.
[Given her opinions on her parents lately, Saretha surely isn't counting them.] Maybe... you're the first person I truly learned to care about. You had a life filled with people who loved you. Even... Satsuki had that. She found that, in creating her own circle of people around her. Creating her own family. I...
[She shakes her head, pulling Amy closer.] If I am being honest, I don't know much about that. I want to learn what that sort of love is.

This woman had become her rock, even beyond losing her brother. Saretha had made given her direction, helped her become more confident... made her more sure of the woman she wanted her to be.]
We can... we can find out together. I'll show you everything I can, I'll give you all the love I can... [those words were spoken through tears of happiness, before she repeated her words from before again] I love you...!
[and she moved to kiss Saretha again]
