[ Any of the Numbered who have set foot outside today are likely to have seen some of the rather unique posters plastered around on every available building/lamppost/fence/beloved family pet. Observe the glitter-saturated horror. ]



[ Y E A H. Regardless of which echo boundary they're in, the notices are everywhere. Some lucky Numbered may even have had one shoved into their mailbox! GOSH. There's also an address for a weddng chapel in Vegas (confusing many Fussen locals in particular) and a note that masks are mandatory and will be provided to people who don't already have one. How considerate!

C'mon, Numbered Specials. Party with Badri and forget all the horrid stressful things that are happening. ]

"Biology teacher, high school level, to be specific. Which I suppose does require being a regular scientist, to some extent." He moves his glass to his left hand to offer his right in a handshake. "Randall Lyall. I live in Locke." For the moment, anyway.

It's to anger him, and it is more than that... but I can't say more about it right now. Everyone will know very soon, but to properly draw a bead on him I need to draw him out.

[His eyes continue to scan the crowd, lingering for a second on one face and smirking, moving his mask back in place.]

So, have you told her how you feel?

Thankfully, she'll be more than happy to give a few pointers and a nudge in the right direction. ...But she's kind of sink-or-swim when it comes to teaching.

[He replied a little quickly, there.]

I'm not that other thing, either. [A king. Or a hero. He definitely didn't feel like either, anymore.]

Course, I'm mostly here 'cause no guy in his right mind's gonna let his girlfriend go to a party with liquor by herself.

[Immediately, he goes back to sounding paranoid. Cuckold once, shame on you--]

Nope. Just delicious, mind-rotting alcohol for Arthur. He slyly reached over to pluck a glass of champagne from a table.

"Well, I dunno. Stoners at a school like that would probably hide it pretty well."

[He's not outright commenting on that slightly-too-quick reply. Yet.]

[Uh... She shakes her head.] No, not yet. It's uh, taking a little while, but i'm going to! It'll be today!

[She raises an eyebrow at that.] Really? I'll hold you to that.

"Dance? O-of course I do! ...If by "know how to dance" you mean "don't have the slightest clue how to dance," Then yeah, I'm an expert." She can kind of freestyle dance, but she can't do the fancy stuff people are doing here.

[And she'll do her best to float there, it's kind of hard when balls don't actually provide any buoyancy, but she'll make do.]

[As it would have it, Eri had decided to go to this little masquerade. He's definitely a party person anyway, and with his absence from the large crab battle and other happenings, he's making an effort to be more involved with his fellow numbered. So why not a party?]

[Exactly.]

[So he's standing on the outskirts of the dance floor himself, dressed in a dapper black suit with a white shirt underneath and a gold tie, as well as his own somewhat sparkling violet vest. His hair the usually douchey hipster style. It's all topped off with his mask, which is of course a bit over the top. But, that's just Eri. Of course, he spots Walter when he's looking around for anyone he knows, thanking whatever force there may be out there that it's him and not possible others.]

[It takes a few moments of mulling it over before he approaches him, acting calm and confident. It's not like he's feeling a little out of place here not really knowing anyone. Pshh!!]

Hey Walt, didn't really think some fancy fuckin' masquerade was your thing.

[He says this like he has any reference to really draw from, when he really doesn't. he casts a glance out at the dancing crowd, before back at Walter. His eyes scanning over him a second, before he clears his throat.]

So... you plannin' on stayin' ower here the whole night, or are you waitin' for your dancin' partner to return?

[ Walter doesn't notice Eri until he speaks. When he finally does, he is taken aback by that outfit. Really, he shouldn't be -- the get-up screams Eri Ampora, and masquerade balls are basically just excuses to be as outlandish as humanly possible. But his eyebrows still shoot up, and the corner of his mouth twitches slightly. ]

Oh... um. Hi, Eri. Nice outfit. Very... bling-y?

[ Did he use that right? He hopes he used that right. While Walter doesn't look thrilled to see Eri, he doesn't look especially unhappy either. Probably because Octavia and Alan aren't within the immediate vicinity, and without them, conversation will (hopefully) be a lot less frustratingly antagonistic. ]

I don't really have any plans. Or a dancing partner. I just kind of got dragged into this. But I have to admit, it is better than sitting at home.

[To be honest, the outfit he's wearing is more akin to a banshee's screech to any onlooker's eyes, than a simple scream of how much it fit Eri. He's a walking obnoxious eyesore sometimes, and a masquerade merely gave him yet another venue to show that much off. With Walter's compliment (was it a compliment?) He nods and grins broadly.]

Thanks, you actually look pretty good yourself. Did--whoewer dragged you here--do your, uh... [A gesture to Walter's hair, and kinda his face in general.]

You look good--I mean, it looks good. Yeah.

[SMOOTH. but it's fairly obvious, without Octavia around to provoke him, Eri's actually pretty civil. If... a little awkward.]

[He shifts a little, before directing his glance elsewhere, staring at someone random in the crowd not far from them.]

I'm surprised you'we been left alone when you got dragged here, kinda lame. Sure it beats home, but what's the point if you're just gonna get ditched.

[A beat.]

I mean... I ain't doin' much right now, so if you'd like company, I ain't opposed to hangin' around with you till they return. We could just chat an' people watch, or if you wanted to dance--

[A quick glance to Walter, before he looks away again. Trying to play it smooth. He honestly has no idea what he's doing. Walter's cute, sure, but he's also guilty of the crime of being friends with Octavia!! But he's also pretty nice despite that, and not horribly annoying either.]

--not that you got to, I get not wantin' to or whatewer. No pressure.

[He is such a failure at this.]

[ Eri starts piling on the compliments. Awkward compliments, sure, but genuine ones, and honestly, Walter is pretty flattered. He isn't used to people saying good things about his looks. His cheeks get a little red and he has to look away, though that ghost of a smile from earlier has turned into a real one. It doesn't last long, but it's a thing.

The word 'dance' kind of jerks him back to reality. He looks back up, startled. A compliment or two is one thing, but now he wants to dance?

There are a few options here. The obvious one is to say no, because this is still Eri, and he has said terrible things about his friends.

But...

...no, he can't sacrifice his morals because someone said something nice to him. And he would be a wrecking ball on the dance floor anyway. Just. Gonna turn him down. Just -- ]

[Her foot taps in agitation again while she considers the offer. Even with the mask, she almost looks... embarrassed?]

I just don't wanna stomp on your feet or anything....

[He holds up his arms to defend from the incoming balls, but ultimately fails. One hits him square on the cheek with a satisfying noise, the other brushes his raised guarding-arm.

Okay yeah his cheek kinda hurts (who knew throwing hollow plastic balls could hurt so much?) but he's not deterred.]

Hey, come on now, I've got two perfectly functioning balls here as it is! You should donate those to people who have ball cancer! Cancer! In their balls!
