So... um.

I kinda fucked up. I failed four of my classes this semester... I was already pretty terrible at Algebra, but I also flunked Spanish II, World History, and Biology...

Ugh. What's the next step after this? I said I could handle all the superhero and Vegas stuff and school and I clearly couldn't...

[Lily doesn't know why she didn't notice it sooner. She should have, shouldn't she? Her mother probably would have on sight, given what was involved. She knew this sort of thing like the back of her hand. Yet... it seemed so obvious now that she'd had some time of being able to sit and think about things, to focus beyond the murder of someone she knew, and beyond her worry for her present loved ones. While she gives Winter a quick heads up before going into this, she then just does it - she wants as many thoughts on all of this as possible.]

I don't know how well it's been covered outside of Las Vegas, but before Angeline's death, there was another murder the week prior. I know it's been mentioned here and there - Dr. Solus did, and I've had a couple discussions since it happened. The Doctor thought it may be connected to supernatural events, and then... Well, I think we all became more than a little distracted by what happened to Angeline.

I've pointed it out to someone else, but... The fact that both bodies wound up in water, and Vermini appear around there should be an obvious enough connection, although with the homicide rate in big cities I can understand why some might still think its a coincidence.

However... In the wound of Frederick Abbott, there was a Heliconia clipping. Angeline was found on a raft made of lobsters and crabs. The Heliconia, in addition to meaning "great returns" - whether or not that has any actual relevance here - is also known as the "lobster-claw."

That's... far, far too much to be a coincidence at this point, isn't it? Given the mysterious circumstances of how Angeline's body just appeared where it did, there is obviously something going on beyond what's normal, even for Vegas. And they're connected.

I'll probably see if there's a way to pass this along to the local police, though I figure the connections have probably already been figured out on their end. It probably won't help them much, but I figure the offer is something, at least. On OUR end, it does raise a question... Beyond anyone targeting us, just who was this Frederick Abbott, and if they are connected... what does that even mean? Washington's on the other end of the country from Locke City. He couldn't have been Numbered. Right?

...I don't know. I don't have anything to offer beyond that. There's way too many connecting threads here, I just wonder if anyone else has any thoughts out there.

Before )

[Later, he took shelter in some kid's tree house a couple streets away. No video this time because nobody needed to see that he had been crying for the last several hours. The idea of even admitting this to anybody and especially on the stupid network was embarrassing. But, realistically he couldn't survive on his own. Sure his magic may be able to create food and some things that could let him live on his own, but he couldn't create a place to hide. Sooner or later someone would find him, bring him to the police and then send him out of Locke to who knows where. At least with people they could make sure he was hidden well. He hoped pitifully to himself that if there was any mercy in this universe nobody would ask why, they would just help him. So, with the greatest reluctance he turns on feed and uses the voice feature. Nobody needed to see that he had in fact been crying for the past several hours.]

Look, I'm not going to dance in circles this time: I need some place to go. Like right now. I don't have a place to stay anymore and I can't hide where I am forever. Someone's bound to check this stupid tree house sooner or later.

[And trying to sound a bit more grown up he adds:]

I don't want any questions. Okay? J-just a yes or a no. And don't get the police involved! I don't need to end up on some lab table for the aliens to poke at.

[Haruka's dumb, goofy face shows up on the network, his tongue slightly protruding from the very corner of his mouth. In his hand is a pencil, and he seems very focused on whatever it is he's writing.]

I hope I'm not causing too much trouble for any of you right now, but I had an idea. Things seem to be getting pretty complicated lately...All the stuff with those three aliens, and everything going on here and in Vegas, it's pretty hard to stay positive. But you know what cheers me up when I'm not feeling too hot?

Art! So, I'm gonna write my number down on this piece of paper, and then whatever I draw should come through to the network, right? Just like when we do handwritten messages. I thought maybe, if people were browsing the network and saw some nice art being drawn, it might distract them from their bad day, or calm them down. I know watching art in progress always helps me with my nerves!

So, here we go! [Haruka immediately begins drawing, each line being transferred over the network to show his work in progress slowly becoming more and more complete.] I'm drawing something I saw in one of the memories I got back. I know sometimes they can be pretty scary, but this one just makes me...hungry! [A laugh as he continues drawing. The drawing starts to become something more recognizable--a scene depicting rows and rows of festival stands containing all sorts of delicious food, gently tinted in the orange glow of the sunset overhead.]

Maybe I'll get some of it back one day, doesn't it look good? [Now putting the finishing touches, he diligently colors in each food item with colored pencil.] Bright and colorful! Happy food for happy people. I'm tempted to draw smiley faces on them, actually!

You know, if you haven't tried authentic japanese festival food before, I highly recommend it. My parents make this sort of stuff from time to time when they feel like we need a shot in the arm of tradition. Maybe I can invite some of you over sometime!

[After a few more minutes of diligent work and lots of Bob Ross inspired commentary, Haruka scribbles "all done!" into the corner of the picture and signs it.] And there you have it! I hope this doesn't bother you too much if you aren't interested in it, and...I guess I hope it can remind some of you to try to focus on the good things instead of the bad? Like takoyaki...

I'll try to draw on here as much as I can, maybe I'll try to depict my new memories as best I can? If it's not too troublesome, that is! I just want to share something nice with everyone, it's about all I can do right now since I'm stuck at home and I don't really have any cool powers that I can use to contribute. So...thanks for watching!

[ A drawing is spread across the page under a scrawled purple network number - an image that is unmistakably the final stages of several of the more recognizable Network heroes: an half-colored giant robot (the Dynames, to anyone who might put a name to it), the gathered Precure All-Stars, Alan's titan form and the mysterious Lord of the Bugmen, most notably - against an inked Wise Snake.

There are small studies of the Wise Snake in the corner, and a scrawled scale chart next to it.

After a moment, purple text fills in in some of the empty space:

So I guess if I can talk to the real things here, I've gotta ask if drawing you for a charity print is okay, huh?

I'm Steven. I draw comics. If anyone - well, if anyone's interested in an interview, I'm thinking about doing a couple short-comics about the Numbers Club, or more charity prints. We can keep names out of it, if you want. And if you're in this one, and want out... let me know. Fixing the composition'll be a pain in the ass, but it's fine.
