[There's a brief moment of silence before Eugene starts talking. He tells what follows in the same voice that he used to use to tell bedtime stories to his daughter.]

Once upon a time... )

[Another brief pause.] I'll be leaving for Japan the day after tomorrow. I found out a few days ago that my uncle--my mother's brother--was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He's unmarried and childless. I volunteered to care for him until... until he doesn't need anyone to anymore. I've spent the last few days making preparations so that business doesn't suffer for my absence. You'll still get your birthday cakes. I left instructions for that and I'm sure Shiro will see it happens if nothing else.

I know once we leave Locke City we forget about the Secret Numbers Club. I will miss you all. I hope that you will still all be here when I come back.

[OOC: I'm having to drop, but I'm still going to be replying here and backtagging my old posts. I'd like to come back someday, though, when life is less hectic and I can handle a fast game again.]

[ azure sounds like any other high school girl on the network, albeit a little weirded out after initial contact. she's got a good head on her shoulders, though, and she's determined to deal with it!

also, her voice sounds a little... wavy? it's not enough to disguise her voice entirely, but the modification is there. ]

Is there a way to get to the FAQ without having to ask someone to link to it or looking for it yourself in other posts? Because, um, duh? Really good idea. If it's already somewhere, I guess I sound stupid, but I couldn't find it on my first shot. Who runs this message board anyway?

I'm using a glass of water here and I don't have an iPhone or computer right now, so if I disappear on you, sorry! I don't know how long a glass of water can hold a connection, you know? I'm gonna try and find one really soon. [ 'cause it's not a great idea to make a video post here, right? the sooner she can switch to text, the better. ]

[The video starts with the camera swinging upwards to focus on the top half of John's face. He looks a bit disheveled: his eyes are bloodshot, he's got bags under them, and his hair hangs loosely around and in his face; it just looks like he hasn't been sleeping for a few nights now. He scrubs at his jaw, trying to instill some sense of energy, and fails miserably.]

July 28th, trial number... [He turns his head to the side, like he's looking for something, and when he can't find it, John huffs in tired annoyance.] Christ, I don't remember anymore.

[John returns his attention to the camera, brow furrowing with concentration. After taking several deep breaths, he closes his eyes, and when he opens them, they've gone black. The laughter that follows is hollow and breathless; it drops off quickly when John shuts his eyes again. They remain closed for longer this time, almost like he's afraid to open them again, but when he does, his eyes look perfectly normal.

He repeats the exercise two more times, as if to make sure that he really does have control over... whatever this is, and with each success, his smile grows larger and larger. The camera finally cuts out after John lets out a whoop, and a few minutes after the video is uploaded to the network, some text is added as well:

Has anyone seen anything like this before?

[He doesn't expand on the situation. Nope, this guy is heading out ASAP to buy a pair of sunglasses.]

Who: Marisa and all you unhealthy eaters out there
What: Summer job!
Where: McDonalds
When: All summer
Warnings: Perpetuating obesity in America

Marisa liked having money. Who didn't? Unfortunately, unemployed high school student didn't net you a lot of dough. And so, Marisa found herself standing behind a counter in front of a cashier with a red shirt and hat. She greeted the next customer with a cheery, if tired, "Welcome to McDonalds, can I interest you in one of our combo meals?"

Ah the things we do for capitalism.

However. There's something subtly different about her that is difficult to place. An extra sense of presence that you can't define. Unless you somehow have the ability to sense magic. Then you can sense that Marisa has developed an impressive amount of magical potential that is just begging to ground itself in something. She seems totally unaware of this development.

[The webcam feed opens to show Hajime's darkened apartment. The lights are off, the curtains are drawn, and a hulking figure can be seen moving around in the shadows. He's moving too fast and too much to get a clear look at him for very long, though the green orb on his chest is slightly luminescent. He's so distraught, he hasn't realized he even activated the webcam. He thought he was just switching on the mic for audio.]

I...I can't stay here. I can't let anyone find me like this. But I don't think I can get out of here on my own without anyone seeing me...

[Hajime is doing his best to keep his voice calm, but there's no denying the fact that he sounds quite shaken. It's still recognizable as his voice, although it sounds a little rougher than usual.]

I changed. I...tried to fight it, but...it...it was just like I remembered...and I can't hide the belt anymore, not that it matters...

[He is this close to having a massive freakout right then and there. Staying calm after turning into some kind of a bug monster is really hard, especially when you were normal--or as close to normal as Hajime gets these days--an hour ago. He's going through the room, trying to figure out what, if anything, he'll be bringing with him when he leaves. It's at this point that he realizes the webcam's on, and a green, clawed, and definitely inhuman hand will reach out to cover it.]

[The numbers had been in his head since he'd found that key. The one that's tucked safely in the far corner of his nightstand, because he can't bring himself to get rid of it. Even if what he saw - it can't mean anything other than that maybe he's too tired. At first he wonders if it's his subconscious or something, even if he doesn't believe in that kind of stuff, and he checks the number against all of his case numbers, past and present. But of course, there isn't a match.

When he finally writes them down, it's not really intentional. He's rereading his notes on a case, and looking over the small sketches he'd done of the crime scene, when his mind wanders. Nick finds himself doodling in the next blank page of his journal, something he hasn't done since college, and with the numbers still on his brain, they end up on the page.

And then Nick has a lot more to think about than keys and his subconscious. He tries to read through everything he can suddenly see, because he can't figure out what the hell this is without looking at all the possible evidence, but there's so much of it that his head starts to hurt. Eventually, he decides to go the route of testing it.]

So. If this isn't a huge, excellently done but extremely nonsensical joke - or a delusion - and people can actually read whatever's written here, what's to stop them from reading things that were written before? If I'd known I was giving a bunch of potentially crazy people an all access pass to something just by writing some numbers, I might have chosen more carefully.

Hello, everyone! My name is Tiresias, but those who really know me can call me Akrana Drakozar.

Since I was young, I was always plagued by the feeling that there was always something missing from my life. I kept getting weird flashes of memory and the odd sensation of phantom limbs. It was like I wasn't just me, but rather someone else -- perhaps even in a past life!

i'm so sorry )

Has anyone else gotten...stronger as a result of all of this? I...it's like I don't know my own strength anymore. I keep breaking stuff. Had to send myself home from work. I guess I need to practice or something with it, but I don't really know how...

[There is an oddly loud crunching, grinding noise that sounds like it's far too close to whatever Hajime is speaking into and an exasperated hiss from Hajime.]

...and if someone could recommend a place that fixes cell phone screens, that would be great.

((OOC: Feel free to have been in Hajime's restaurant at some point in the past couple of days to have witnessed Hajime accidentally breaking dishes because gauging his own strength is now kind of hard. Those poor, poor crushed glasses...))
