let's make a date
Who: Rakka and Raye.
What: A couple tries to go on an actual date for once
Where: Locke City
When: March 23rd
There were many things Rakka thought about nowadays. Certain things were more serious then others. Her developing Precure powers, Fougere and the Heart tree. The Doppelgangers, causing trouble for everyone else-- her run in with the Doppelganger calling herself Raye had left the Haibane pretty shaken, to say the least.
It had been a close call, but Rakka was just happy to be back with the Dians. She could have joined the others in Vegas or Europe, but someone had to remain here. Just in case. And she was fine with staying in Locke, even with the growing tension in the air.
Something was coming, something big. Rakka could tell. It wasn't a stretch to say that everything they'd been through must be leading up to something. Saretha's theory about the aliens and doppelgangers only cemented that idea in her mind. More and more recently, her thoughts drifted, thinking about what may happen in the near future. There could be a war, one day; a fierce enemy that she would fight against, alongside her friends....
Frankly these thoughts were... very stressful, exhausting as well. So she changed her train of thought to other things. Like, well, Raye. Her Raye.
And a thought began to form. She pursed her lips together, hands already around her phone.
She couldn't remember if Raye was busy at the moment; as much as the couple talked, Raye was someone that jumped from situation to situation. It was too late to reconsider, though, she was already dialing her girlfriend's number. The dial tone rung in her ear once, twice, then she spoke.
"... Hi, Raye. Are you there? It's me, Rakka..."

"... Hi, Raye. Are you there? It's me, Rakka..."

Wow.
Rakka never failed to look good in Raye's eyes. From her regular street clothes, to her new Precure outfit, to even her pajamas or whatever while she struggled with that static hair in the morning. She'd even knocked her socks off in that dress she'd worn the night of that masquerade but despite all that, seeing her walk up right now kind of left Raye blinking dumbly for a few seconds.
And then she realized Rakka had just said something to her. Damnit!
"Oh. Uh, yeah, hi. You look..." okay, just... use words, you can do that, use words to say something good here, "... nice."
You friggin' idiot!
no subject
Wow was right. She was dumbstruck.
Rakka allowed herself a moment to just... take Raye in. She had always known Raye as rough around the edges, and it showed through in what she would wear. She had seen Raye in a variety of clothes... including nothing at all.
This was on an entirely new level, and it demanded an appropriate reaction.
So, Rakka took her girlfriends hands, smiling from ear to ear. "You look amazing, Raye! I never knew you had an outfit like this."

It definitely wasn't a look she rolled out every day, it took an amount of effort to impress that she simply didn't really feel like putting into her every day life. Except, now, for Rakka.
Maybe it was "just" a date, but it was technically their first date and... Raye had wanted to go that extra mile. It wasn't really a joke when she'd said it was a special occasion thing. To her, this definitely qualified.
And judging by the smile on Rakka's face, it had paid off. Smiling back, she wrapped her hands around Rakka's in return and leaned into give her a quick kiss not really giving a good god damn who might be around to see them.
"Thanks." She paused, smiling at her for a second before seeming to remember why they were even there. "Oh. Uh, so I guess we should actually pick something to see, huh?"
Not that she couldn't just stand there all day looking at Rakka if she really wanted to or anything....

The simple fact brought a warmth to Rakka's chest. Raye had always kept up a hardened persona around others, but... seeing her like this, Rakka knew that she truly a softy on the inside.
She couldn't be happier as they kissed, Rakka leaning into it just a bit before they broke apart. "O-oh! Right!" Briefly distracted, her eyes now widened in realization.
Quickly, she hopped over to the posters. Each one received a critical glance. "Hmm... How about this one?" She pointed at a particular one. "The Day the Earth Stood... Still."
Ah. Hmm. Her brow furrowed as she thought it over a second time. A movie about aliens didn't seem so... enjoyable at the moment.

Instead, she held onto Rakka's hand as they made their way over to the posters, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with her. She scanned over the posters and grimaced a little at Rakka's suggestion, sharing her thoughts on the matter.
"Uh... maybe no aliens right now." Another glance. "There's 'Pissed Off Car Chases 12' I guess but I dunno if you're into those movies. Did you see the other ones?"
no subject
She'd told herself that several times already. But a date was admittedly more important.
"...Uh, yeah..." She mumbled before shaking her head. "I saw a few of them, maybe. They're not very big in Japan."
This was harder then she thought it would be. "How about... Zombieland?"
There's a zombie clown in that movie!
Zombieland? She gave the poster a skeptical look. She liked zombie movies and everything, but... she wasn't really sure it'd make the best date movie. Or if that was Rakka's thing... although, some of those cartoons of hers could get kinda messed up sometimes.
"Well, it's supposed to be funny. I'm good with it if you are."
Indeed there is!
Sure. Admittedly, a movie like Zombieland wouldn't be her first choice for something to watch on a date. She wasn't going to be terribly picky about their dates though, or what they did during them. Honestly, what she wanted to do most was spend time with Raye.
Besides, when the other options were alien movies, and sequels to sequels she hadn't seen before...
"It does sound funny. I saw a trailer online." She said. "Okay, let's go see that!"
Schemer!
"Yeah, sounds cool. Let's check it out." She turned and started toward the box office and... trying not to wince mentally. Her dad had left a pretty decent life insurance policy behind, but... she'd been going about seven months without income now.
Fuck it. She was just gonna blow it on something else stupid anyway.
Muahahaha
She let Raye go first as they moved to the box office, still hand in hand. It wasn't long before she noticed something amiss about Raye, and she realized what it was. She knew Raye didn't like to talk about her lack of steady income, despite how concerned Rakka was for her.
"Raye, I can pay for us. The date was my idea, after all."
no subject
Those were for after the movie though.
She did miss a beat when Rakka brought up paying. It would be silly to refuse, Rakka had been the one to ask her out here after all, and she could certainly handle it but... well, she wasn't here just for Rakka's money, and she didn't want to make it seem that way.
"I... I can handle it." She gave Rakka a small smile, reaching up to rub the back of her neck with her free hand. "I'm not totally broke yet."
no subject
She frowned, giving Raye a look of concern as they approached the ticket counter. It was true that she was rich, and Raye had been living on her own ever since... the accident all those months ago. She wanted to help her, making minor offers like this at times. to no avail, it would seem.
"...If you're sure." Rakka replied quietly, giving her hand a gentle squeeze. "But, maybe I can pay for half?"
no subject
She wasn't ever really good at accepting help or support. She'd spent her life being the one giving it without any herself, and accepting it from others now... it was different. She didn't want to come to depend on Rakka, and she didn't want to seem like she was just there for her money but... maybe refusing her help at every turn wasn't fair to her.
"Okay." She said after a moment, returning the gentle squeeze and inching back from the counter to let Rakka approach first. "I mean, if you wanted to."
no subject
"Thanks, Raye." She said, already reaching for her wallet; a rather small one with quite a few bills inside, some that weren't in English. She quickly produced half of what was needed and set it on the counter. "Two for Zombieland, please."
no subject
She looked toward Rakka, leaning closer a little to speak quietly to her. "Thanks."
no subject
Rakka heard Raye's voice in her ear, quiet and thankful. She looked back and replied in kind. "Welcome."
A moment later, they were handed the tickets, along with the change, which Rakka would let Raye take. Still smiling, she pulled playfully on Raye's arm. "Come on! Let's find some good seats."
no subject
She just managed to collect the tickets and the change when Rakka started tugging on her arm, and she let out a laugh, playing along a bit as if Rakka was actually pulling her along.
"Hold on, you don't want snacks or anything?"
no subject
She looked back at Raye, letting out a small laugh of her own. "Snacks?" She grinned and hugged Raye's arm to her chest. "Well, I guess it wouldn't be the movie experience if we didn't get popcorn or something, right?"
Onward to the snack bar!
no subject
But oops, they're on the move again! She'll keep letting Rakka take the lead, letting the shorter girl pull her along to the snack bar, hands in her pockets. She gave a quick look over the options up above.
"Hell yeah, snacks are the most important part." Normally, she'd load up on everything but right now... "Just split a big one between us?"
no subject
She was enjoying this little moment with Raye. It was entirely obvious that Raye was letting the Haibane pull her around. She probably thought it was cute. Rakka thought for a moment about how happy she was, being together with Raye.
"Hmm, sure!" She checked her wallet. "That sounds like a thing people do on dates."
A beat.
"And maybe some kitkats?"
no subject
Plus, there was a dark theater with those fold-up armrests for couples waiting for all their cuddling needs.
"Yeah, sure." She said, that smile of hers never leaving her face. "Whatever you want."
no subject
And so were the kitkats.
"Great." A beat. Her smile faltered a little. "Do you think they have other flavors then "regular" kitkats?"
Eventually they would manage to order everything they wanted. Rakka took the drinks, and stuff the snacks into her pockets, she'd let Raye get the popcorn and everything else. And soon, she was heading into the theater room and looking for a seat.
no subject
That was the question in the air as they made their way over to the theater, with Raye's arms taken up by popcorn buckets and a few other snacks wherever else she could carry them. You'd think they were stocking up on supplies for the least healthy road trip in the world. It was even a bit of a juggling act to hand over their tickets, but she managed.
"No way. There's no way there's wasabi kitkats, you're messing with me." She glanced up into the rows of seats, scanning over them. "So, uh, you wanna sit closer up front or more in the back?"
Subtle translation: How much attention do you actually hope to pay to the movie.
no subject
This remarkably interesting conversation about Kitkats would have to wait, as Rakka joined Raye in looking for seats.
She pointed to a few seats more in the back. "How about those?"
Translation: Not much.
no subject
But, yes, it would. She nodded at the seat choice, grinning a little bit. The theater wasn't too packed so that meant that they'd be pretty isolated up there. Plenty of room and all that.
"Looks good to me." She nodded, following Rakka's lead up and doing a surprisingly decent job at juggling her armload of snacks on the way.
Paying attention to movies is for chumps anyway.
