[Ariel pops up using the video feature of her laptop. She is apparently sitting on her bed with an expression that is a combination of bemused and slightly worried. In one hand she seems to be spinning a long knife or one sided dagger in her hands.]

Given everything that has been going on lately, rampaging cars, pulse generating blackouts, glowing light thingies, it really shouldn't seem too odd to suddenly find a pair of daggers under my pillow on my bed... Really. But it is. Want to know what is even more fun? Saturday I couldn't even use a sword to save my life. Today I'm suddenly a knife-dagger master. Or at least I think I am. It's the same sort of knowing that I had when I found my bow at the second hand store.

That's just it. I spent most of Saturday afternoon being beaten up. Or... serendipitously dodging everything.

One or two. My arms are mostly sword from flailing a sword around.

Lucky. Yeah, I know, a small amount of weight goes and multiplies on you if you wave it around.

[Feathers have a weight to them, even if it's less than it might be.]

You wouldn't be the first. Nor, I suspect, the last. Have you had a chance to try them out yet? You'll have your pick of sparing partners, I suspect. [At least if they face more mundane terrors than cars in the future they'll be well armed.]

Did yours come with sheathes at least? I had to get Thorir to make me one for my sword.

Not yet. I'm still sore from trying to learn how to spar on Saturday. [She turns the blade over a few more times.] No sheathes, just very sharp daggers. I might have been a lot less freaked out if they had sheathes.

They look fairly normal, shape wise, so I'm sure Thorir will be able to sort you out something. He did a good job on mine.

What set you to sparring? I thought you had your bow?

That monster car kind of... inspired me and reminded me that I don't always have my bow handy. Not that I'd carry around a sword either, but I felt that I should learn how to deal with close combat as a just in case since I won't always have the luxury of being at range.

[She tilts her head looking thoughtful.]

I'll ask uncle to see if he can make me something then. The design is simple, yeah, but they have a bit of a curve to them so it'll have to be a careful cut.

[then looking back up at them she furrows her brow suddenly catching on to something he'd said.] I didn't know you had a sword?

Knives sound like a good compromise then, especially if you can use them. Although you'd still get in trouble if you're caught with them. [So don't get caught. Better to be safe than sorry with everything that's happening, as much as Gabriel disapproves of having to advise someone to go armed.]

You didn't snoop around too much when you were here, then. [Gabriel laughs good naturedly, carrying his laptop up to his office so he can set it on the desk and then turn to pick up the sword that rests against the wall, unsheathing it so he can show her the elegant, curved blade.] It turned up when there was that whole debacle with the snake - the ability to use it too, thank god.

Not surprising at all. I found a pair of swords underneath my bed a while back. Wouldn't have found it if I didn't go looking for a pencil I dropped by accident.

Under the bed sounds a lot less lethal than under the pillow. But it seems to be in line with the Thorsson's family traditions of weapons appearing in unusual places.

It means things don't get found unless someone purposely crawls into places like that for it. Right now it's usually the twins that's been doing that sort of thing.

It could have been worse.

Make you wonder what the twins have found then, exploring everywhere as they do. Makes me glad these daggers wound up here then.

Someone usually checks every so other what new toys they've been playing with lately. Maybe I should do it again soon myself. They took my drafting pencils once.

You think so? thanks! I wish I had something like this when the car attacked. Might have slashed it's tires or something.

I don't know about lute music, but fantasy is about right since my other weapon is a bow.
