[Ariel pops up using the video feature of her laptop. She is apparently sitting on her bed with an expression that is a combination of bemused and slightly worried. In one hand she seems to be spinning a long knife or one sided dagger in her hands.]

Given everything that has been going on lately, rampaging cars, pulse generating blackouts, glowing light thingies, it really shouldn't seem too odd to suddenly find a pair of daggers under my pillow on my bed... Really. But it is. Want to know what is even more fun? Saturday I couldn't even use a sword to save my life. Today I'm suddenly a knife-dagger master. Or at least I think I am. It's the same sort of knowing that I had when I found my bow at the second hand store.

Convenient! Maybe you should play with all the Thorsson weapons and see if you get anything from that.

[Julien is jealous. Blades are cool.]

You wouldn't be the first. Nor, I suspect, the last. Have you had a chance to try them out yet? You'll have your pick of sparing partners, I suspect. [At least if they face more mundane terrors than cars in the future they'll be well armed.]

Did yours come with sheathes at least? I had to get Thorir to make me one for my sword.

Of course you'd find daggers the day after I kick your ass.

That's just it. I spent most of Saturday afternoon being beaten up. Or... serendipitously dodging everything.

Sounds exciting. Bruises, or were you just that serendipitous?

Not yet. I'm still sore from trying to learn how to spar on Saturday. [She turns the blade over a few more times.] No sheathes, just very sharp daggers. I might have been a lot less freaked out if they had sheathes.

One or two. My arms are mostly sword from flailing a sword around.

I'm betting the ass kicking was payment for these beauties. [Yeah she is rather impressed and maybe even a little fond of them.]

That or the universe felt bad for you.

They look fairly normal, shape wise, so I'm sure Thorir will be able to sort you out something. He did a good job on mine.

What set you to sparring? I thought you had your bow?

Lucky. Yeah, I know, a small amount of weight goes and multiplies on you if you wave it around.

[Feathers have a weight to them, even if it's less than it might be.]

That monster car kind of... inspired me and reminded me that I don't always have my bow handy. Not that I'd carry around a sword either, but I felt that I should learn how to deal with close combat as a just in case since I won't always have the luxury of being at range.

[She tilts her head looking thoughtful.]

I'll ask uncle to see if he can make me something then. The design is simple, yeah, but they have a bit of a curve to them so it'll have to be a careful cut.

[then looking back up at them she furrows her brow suddenly catching on to something he'd said.] I didn't know you had a sword?

I bet it took you awhile to get used to the plumage. Did your muscles hurt when you started changing?

Knives sound like a good compromise then, especially if you can use them. Although you'd still get in trouble if you're caught with them. [So don't get caught. Better to be safe than sorry with everything that's happening, as much as Gabriel disapproves of having to advise someone to go armed.]

You didn't snoop around too much when you were here, then. [Gabriel laughs good naturedly, carrying his laptop up to his office so he can set it on the desk and then turn to pick up the sword that rests against the wall, unsheathing it so he can show her the elegant, curved blade.] It turned up when there was that whole debacle with the snake - the ability to use it too, thank god.

...Maybe. Possibly.

[Oh that was a pretty sword. She admires it appreciatively, tracing the lines and curves of the blade with her eyes.]

No, I behaved and mostly just bugged Killian. [She tries not to blush at mentioning Killian and quickly changes topics.] Anyway, that is a beautiful sword. It looks both pretty and functional.

[She sighs hearing about how he got the ability back to use it]

I feel like I know how to use the daggers, like holding them feels familiar and I feel like I can fight with them. But at the same time, knowing and doing are two different things. Like this body isn't trained the way my mind seems to be.

Quite a while! [he was extremely upset.] Changing itself was painless once my shoes were off. Later, though, yes, the weight started to tell.

Don't lie, you don't have a poker face.

[It is a pretty sword, and Gabriel nods at the compliment even though the blade isn't exactly his, acknowledging it.]

Even if you can use them, you might find that the muscle memory doesn't match up to what your body can actually do. I think Pu-- Glorfindel - sorry, I'm still not used to that name. He had longer arms than I do, I think. He could do things with his sword that I can't. The only way to deal with that that I've found so far is practice. [He grins.] But for that you need to be prepared to spar again. Can I suggest muscle rub and a warm bath? Not necessarily in that order.

Well you carry yourself well now. So that's a plus.

Hah, thanks. Lots of practice and athelas. I build muscle easily these days.
