WHO: Raye Satterfield, Saretha Kaiser, witnesses and anyone who wants to observe
WHEN: Sunday evening. The 15th
WHERE: A section of the Dead District far away from the Thunder Compound and LSR clinic
WHAT: Saretha Kaiser, eager to attempt to trigger more Echoes by recreating events from her past life, has challenged Raye Satterfield to a duel. Raye, eager to feed Saretha a knuckle sandwich, has accepted.
WARNINGS: Violence, strong language, grievous scenery abuse. You know what? Let's just go with Warning: Kill la Kill.
Alright, this was the place. Raye stood amid the emptied out buildings in an abandoned part of the Dead District, far from the compound that Thunder Corp had started building up after the aliens' arrival. She had come dressed for a fight too, in her living black and red school uniform, and had her arms crossed as she waited.
"Are you certain this is the best course of action?" Senketsu finally broke the silence, glancing upward at his wearer.
"Course I am. You heard all that crap she was talking." Raye grumbled, looking around again. Where the hell was she anyway?
"Perhaps. However, that Kamui she was wearing troubles me. If Saretha has managed to master wearing it, you may find yourself at a serious disadvantage if you fight her."
Raye paused, frowning at that thought. She remembers full well how strong she and Senketsu were in that first fight. It's a huge difference between the power they had now....
But even if that's the case.
"Yeah, well, I can't just back out now."
"I see. So you are determined to see this through to the end."
"Yeah." Besides Saretha's attitude, a part of her wanted to see for herself just how strong her "rival" was. Those past-life memories had haunted her since they first appeared in her mind, and she wanted to see how she matched up not just against Saretha Kaiser, but against Matoi Ryuko. The girl she'd apparently been once. "No going back now."
"... Then in that case, I will lend you what strength I can as always."
"... Thanks, Senketsu."
So they're both on the same page. Now, there's nothing left to do but wait for all Hell to break loose.

Instead, she feels a rising anger.
"I'm disappointed in you, Satterfield!" She shifts the sword in her hands, the falling sun glinting off of it. "I've had my Junketsu for only two weeks, and I can already do this much! Whereas you have had months, and this is what you are able to muster?!"
She tilts her head up, looking down dismissively as she nears. "That Kamui is wasted on you. If you can't stand up to me, how do you expect to defeat those who truly threaten us? Your family?!"
A dark look crosses her eyes as she mentions that.
"This is no game, Raydeisha Satterfield. If you cannot treat it as more than that, you have no place in this conflict."
no subject
"If that's such a problem, quit drinking so damn much." Senketsu releases another burst of steam as she pushes herself up, managing to get her hands and knees beneath her again at least, using the few moments Saretha takes to cross the distance between them to recover her senses.
"I have no choice. As long as you are not truly wearing me, I have to drink your blood to maintain this form."
"That crap again." She clenches her teeth, glaring down at her Kamui. "I'm wearing you right now and feeling like a moron. What the fuck else am I supposed to do, huh?!"
"Remain calm. Any further outbursts will cost you even more time."
Anything else Raye might have to say is cut off when Saretha comes out of the building, and tears into her again. She clenches her teeth, looking down at her gloved hand in the dust and dirt she'd dragged out into the street with her, before squeezing her eyes shut.
She's exactly right, that's the worst of it. There's a part of her that knows it, had known it since the fight with that monster had nearly cost her her life months ago. Now once again, it just isn't good enough. She isn't good enough. If only she could have that power back, if only she could figure out what the hell Senketsu meant when he talked about wearing him. For a second, her shoulders slump, but only for a second before her fist clenches in the grit.
Fuck it. Even if it means taking a beating, she still can't bring herself to back down to somebody like this.
"I didn't come out here to try and impress you." With a grunt, she pushes herself up to her feet, holding her sword ready. Apparently she still plans to fight. "Especially not when you're out here flashing half the city."

She stops. For half a beat, the hollowed out sensation of an echo strikes her. Ryuko defeated. Words that make everything she's been doing click into place. Another girl. Transformation, Senketsu in a different form, another fight, and then...
Everything that she's been drawn to do suddenly makes sense. Without further warning, she suddenly lunges into Raye, katana swinging, over and over again. Whether or not Raye is skilled enough to block or absorb the blows with Senketsu, that's up to her - but Saretha is hardly doing this quietly.
"This is the form in which a Kamui is able to unleash the most power! To think you could shame me with your words would only mean you yourself feel the same, displaying just how small time you truly are, and how little you actually understand, Raydeisha Satterfield!"
There's a slight pause before her final swing, blue light suddenly flaring around her again as she sends another wave crashing towards Raye, only at much closer range.
no subject
That's all the time she gets to wonder about it, as Saretha suddenly lunges at her again. To her credit, she manages to deflect the first few swings... but only that. The gap in speed and power is just too much for that to last, and it doesn't take long before her guard crumbles. Blow after blow strikes, cutting past the black Kamui's formidable armor.
Blood splashes on the pavement.
Raye staggers back in the moment before Saretha's final attack, managing to get in a gasp for air before the blast hits. The resulting explosion just manages to muffle the scream that is torn from her.
Dust explodes upwards, filling the air and obscuring both combatants for a moment, and a sharp eye might spot the faint red sparkles that light up inside it. When the cloud clears away, two things become clear. The first is the upright Scissor Blade stabbed into the ground.
The second is Raye herself, lying facedown in the broken street in Senketsu's standard form, coughing as she chokes on the dust clinging to her.

As Raye falls, now untransformed, Saretha again slowly advances. The rest of Satsuki's speech bounces around in her head, but she questions its necessity at this point in the game. This is someone who'd once had that power, but lost it. More over, while she very much believed Satsuki Kiryuin's claims about herself...
Saretha Kaiser could not sit and lie to herself about being "pure."
All the same, this would be it - either it was precisely what this girl needed, or they'd have one less liability to get in their way.
She angles the sword in her hands a bit as she talks. "You don't have the power to face me, and not even I could simply defeat the threat we faced a few weeks ago on my own. What hope do you have to stand against greater threats if you cannot so much as lay a hand on me?"
She sneers. "The paltry amount of power you can summon only makes you a danger to yourself and those around you! Like this, you will only get in the way of those who truly can stand and fight - forfeit your Kamui, and the Scissor Blade! Do so-"
And go home to your family.
"-and I will not be forced to cut that creature off of you myself."

Watching Raye get slammed into a building shocked her enough to gasp. The explosion that sent her to the ground was no better, and now that Saretha was advancing on Raye once more, and Raye didn't seem to be getting back up, the feeling in Rakka's stomach only got worse.
She couldn't just stand there, she couldn't. With little warning, Rakka leapt forward and ran out onto the battlefield, not heeding any warnings sent her way by the other spectators. She was focused on the two girls ahead of her.
"Raye!" She yelled as she got close. When she reached Raye, she took a stand in front of her, putting herself between Raye and Saretha, whom she faced with arms stretched wide in defense. Although, there was no way it would protect anyone, especially her.
"Stop it! Leave Raye alone!

She can't even lift her head toward Saretha when she advances on her again, only squeeze her eyes shut as her words cut just as sharply as her sword. She can't even argue a word of it... after everything she'd blurted out, Saretha had crushed her. She hadn't even so much had gotten a hit in. She knew that if that Kamui was anything like Senketsu at his strongest that it would be too much, but she'd come out here anyway.
Was this really it? Even when she'd thrown everything she had into it, tried her hardest? Lily, Winter, Jasmine... even Harper, who had to rescue her the last time she'd try to fight. Was she really just an idiot for thinking she belonged with them?
Damnit, damnit, damnit.
"... to cut that creature off of you myself."
Her eyes snap open again at that.
Senketsu's gaze tracks Saretha as she approaches, watching both her and Junketsu with a narrowed, angry look but he blinks in surprise when Raye's hand finally moves, just enough to reach down and clutch his collar protectively.
A few rock chips fall from her hair as Raye manages to lift her head, glaring her defiance up at Saretha even in defeat.
"Over my dead--" but then she's no longer looking up at Saretha but at somebody's back as they put themselves between the two of them. A familiar voice, wings, a halo....
Rakka?
"H-hey! What're you doing?" Her eyes widen in sudden horror. Throwing herself in the middle of all this, what was she thinking? "Get out of there! Rakka!"
no subject
This? This is just annoying.
"Remove yourself!" she barks, venom rising in her voice. "This is a fight that Satterfield agreed to." Her eyes dart dangerously past Rakka, to Raye. "Or do you need others to fight your battles for you?"
no subject
Rakka grit her teeth. She could feel herself growing angrier, now that Saretha was directly ordering her to move. A quick glance over her shoulder told her that Raye was coming too now, but that didn't mean she was going to just leave her.
"No!" she snapped back at the woman, her wings flaring out behind her as she spoke. "This isn't a fair fight anymore. It's just you wailing on Raye while she's down! She needs a chance to get back up!"
She stood her ground, clenching her fists. She was a little scared, yes, but it wasn't stopping her. "I'm not going to just let you keep hurting Raye or her living clothes like this!"
no subject
Seeing Rakka throw herself into harm's way, for her sake, makes her blood run cold. Grunting, she manages to push herself up a little.
"Rakka, she's right. This isn't your problem." There's an edge of desperation to her voice. If Saretha did decide to move Rakka herself. "You don't have to get in the middle of this!"
no subject
The desperation in Raye's tone caused Rakka to falter a little, her arms lowering only a little before she lifted them back up. She was determined to see this through.
"I know, but I don't want to see you like this. I wouldn't be a good angel if I didn't protect people when they're down, especially my friends!" She tried to sound reassuring, but there was still fear in her tone. It didn't stop her.
no subject
"This was not a fair fight from the beginning! Satterfield is completely out of her depth! This is not even a fight any longer!"
She gives a low growl, but her voice raises even louder. "I have met you as agreed alone, Satterfield! Are you such a coward you cannot even finish the fights you yourself pick, and must rely upon the aid of others when you've gotten in over your head of your own free will?!"
This is too familiar, though. Far, far too familiar. If she is to push this in any direction, then... There appears to be little hope beyond adhering to the script, as it were.
"This is utter nonsense."
no subject
She stops short, her eyes going wide for a second. In a flash of emptiness, she remembers something... her voice, but speaking somebody else's words.
It ain't nonsense at all!
Except, she had been relying on somebody else. This whole time, she'd been relying on Senketsu's power, they were fighting together. Or they had been, that first time. Since then, all she'd tried to do was go it alone....
Was that really it? Was that what she'd been missing all along?
"Rakka," she plants a hand against the ground and, with a grunt of effort, slowly pushes herself back up to her feet. Standing again, she looks past her friend to her opponent and pulls the Scissor Blade out of the ground, and a faint red light begins to glow from Senketsu, becoming brighter with each second, "I got this."
"Raye?" Senketsu glances upward, feeling the subtle shift in their connection.
"You ready for round two?" She glances down, making eye contact with the Kamui for a moment, before they both shift their focus to Saretha and Junketsu again.
"Of course."
Clamping down on it with her teeth, Raye pulls the pin from her glove. Blood rushes through the needle that stabs into her, dying Senketsu's fabric a deep red. Red lights flare to life around her, but this time they don't flash out just as quickly, but rather they build and build until they become a single, shining light.
"Life Fiber Synchronize!" Senketsu flashes into raw energy, threads swirling around her before abruptly drawing back in, shaping themselves into her armor and fusing with her. Becoming a part of her. Her hair flares up and shoots through with bright red. There's a final explosion of light and raw power, completing her transformation. "KAMUI SENKETSU!"
no subject
....She had this. Rakka nodded slowly. "Okay."
She gives Saretha one last look before the angel girl starts to back away to a safe distance from the two, only really moving faster when Raye's powers really activate. She watches the proceeding power up with awe, even giving it a little cheer. "Go Raye!"
no subject
"At last, Satterfield! Perhaps now you might take things a little more seriously."
This had been what she was hoping to see from the start. This is what she's been trying to incite since.
Congratulations, Raye.
You've admirably succeeded in precisely what she was aiming for, now.
no subject
"Just needed to get my second wind." She brings up her Scissor Blade, holding it in the same unpracticed grip. "Let's wrap this up!"
The thrusters on her back burst with light as she gives a yell and bursts across the short distance between them almost faster than the eye can see, leaving light and sparkles trailing behind her. It's the same hair-brained direct attack she'd tried earlier, only this time with much, much more speed and power behind it.
no subject
That's another matter.
She's hitting a lot harder now too. Though she blocks the blow, she's immediately sliding back.
