[Sam clicks on his webcam. He's wearing sunglasses, and looks vaguely ill.]

This probably isn't a huge deal in the grand scheme of things, but it's seriously freaking me out.

[The sunglasses are removed to reveal that his eyes, which were previously brown and normal looking, are now dark red and have vertical slit pupils, like some kind of cat.]

It was like an ice cream headache times 10 when it happened. Someone reassure me I'm not turning into a demon or something.

This might be a silly question, but how do echos work exactly? I've heard people get items, powers, feelings, tons of different things. How does it happen? What does it feel like?

Please don't spare any detail, I need to know. What might trigger one, what it feels like when you come across something.

Alright, I give.

[Akito is sitting in his seat, arms crossed, with a cardboard box to the side on his desk. For those that have seen him before, his eyes seem a little... different.]

Does anyone know anything about contacts? Specifically, colored ones. I got some cheaper ones, but they hurt my eyes and I can barely see. I don't know how else to explain to my parents about my new eye color - wearing colored contacts to make them this color is a little too weird. I doubt they'd buy it.

[He's spent too much time testing their limits to know what will and won't fly. And speaking of flying...]

Also, has anyone noticed all the sick birds around town? I haven't heard anything about the sickness, but this guy was sitting outside my door when I came back today.

[It's here that he picks up the box, tipping it just enough to show a very still bundle of feathers covered in part by a towel. He gently puts a hand on the cloth and reaffirms that it is indeed still alive when it gives a weak flutter in response. Satisfied, Akito will set the box to the side again.]

I'm not really sure what to do with it. It definitely looks diseased, but I've got no idea if it's something humans can catch or not.

[He leans back thoughtfully before saying one last thing.]

Hey-- Nick, right? Sorry, I got kind of busy. Would you still be up for lessons sometime?

[Asuka doesn't maintain her petite figure by sitting in her room eating instant noodles and studying all day. Okay, so she does that most days and has mainly teenage metabolism to thank for remaining fashion-magazine skinny. She also, however, works out on occasion, particularly by taking jogs in and around LCU, which she's just finished doing for today. Dressed in workout clothes (fairly conservative ones given the recent cold snap) and with a towel stuck neatly between her sweaty neck and her hair, she winds down and decides to try something.]

[To an outside, non-Number observer, it would probably appear that she's doing very, very bad Tai Chi. In reality, her flailing and constant attempts at some kind of blocking motion are partly meditative but mostly trying to mimic something she remembered she could do from her most recent Echo. She was absolutely sure she was doing it right - focusing, thrusting her hands forward, and mentally pushing away from herself - but nothing was happening.]

[After a few minutes of the silly-looking poses (and weird looks from people walking their dogs), she gives up in disgust and picks up her phone.]

[Asuka, still flushed from her workout and annoyance, appears on the network and quickly looks around to make sure everyone else in the quad area is out of earshot.]

Okay, so who knows anything about force fields?

[This time Anthony is calling in out of hesitance, not in spite of it - it was just a thought, tentatively-presented, and any form of text would make it seem a bit more formal - also hence the lack of a greeting or other courtesy phrase when he starts to speak, though the removed pressure in indeed going into it tentatively seems to be getting his words moving a tad more quickly and easily than usual, still in a reserved and hoarse tone.]

Would it -- uhm.

...Does anyone -- think we should, perhaps, erm -- ...compile - advice on -- managing types of changes that we've -- seen... more than once? And - situations... Not only changes.

[Catches up and stumbles out:] -- This is Anthony - by the way. Excuse me.

I -- wondered this because we've had two people - now -- that I'm aware asked - ...what to do for a blood craving. [That was mumbled; no very graceful, strictly-courteous way to put that, probably.] Maybe we could list - possible solutions to -- ...things that happen often... -- Or that are not that uncommon.

Excuse me.

[Seven thirty AM, Lock High School. Marisa is out in the hall before class starts with a bottle of surface cleaner she borrowed from the janitor, because someone wrote "SLUT!" on her locker in permanent marker, muttering angrily under her breath.]

Stupid, giggling trollops blowing things out of proportion. Free sushi is all well and good but I'm gonna get stuffed in a toilet at this rate. No amount of sushi is worth getting your head stuffed in a toilet.

[Another minute of scrubbing makes a little bit of process, but it's slow enough that Marisa huffs in irritation.]

He's not even that hot!

[That afternoon, Bakura's house. Marisa is knocking politely on the door with the air of someone who is prepared to start checking the back door or garage for unlocked entryways if no one answers.]

[The first thing Lloyd is seen doing is turning his head to stare at his closed bedroom door, almost as though he's trying to make sure no one is standing right outside. Finally, he turns back to face forward and sighs a bit.]

Okay, I know for a while that a lot of people who know this number have been talking about learning how to fight and stuff. I've just been wondering, do we really need to? There has to be some other way we can fix whatever's wrong here, right? It's just...I know violence can lead to worse stuff you might not have wanted to happen.

Actually, about that...

[At this Lloyd stands and opens the door to his closet. He reaches in, but suddenly stops and runs to the first door he was staring at. He opens it a crack and sticks his head through for a few seconds before closing it again and returning to the open closet. He goes in as far as he can, exiting the shot for a few moments. When he's next seen, it looks like he's trying to drag something heavy out. Finally, it's obvious that he's actually dragging two somethings, a pair of different-looking swords. They're fairly large and obviously too heavy for him to lift both with each hand.

He leans toward the computer, his voice now a harsh whisper.
]

Why did these things show up in my room a couple weeks ago?! All I can do with these is hide them from my dad!

[And now he's going to work on putting them back in his closet before the wrong person sees them...]
