 Why do you stay here?  People in Locke mainly, but I suppose it goes out to people in Las Vegas too.

Especially people who weren't born here, those who don't have family here.  Having family here is a good reason!  Although I suppose you could try and move your family.

[It took her a while to work out what to say and she deleted a lot of personal information, but in the end decided that she wanted to see what people said without her guiding their answers.  Her family have been trying to convince her to come home, away from the danger again, and it's getting harder to convince them without admitting that she's caught up in everything.]

Quite simply, I'd be leaving family behind, one of whom is one of us. And besides, I refuse to leave as long as I'm still standing.

Because I have friends here that I don't think I could leave.

But staying for your friends is a good reason! I think that's why I want to stay too.

I think it's a really good reason. My friends here are so nice... I just want to be there for them.

Well, I was thinking of going to Vegas some time. I haven't traveled that much before, and this place is still kind of new to me.

I'm still pretty new to Locke, so I'm not sure how much it helps, but... even though it's my job to be here, I could request a transfer. So that's not really why I stay. I guess if it came down to it, there's a certain sense of professional pride. I know that there's something I can do that will make a difference, and help someone. That's it, really. I took this job to protect people that couldn't protect themselves, and that's what I'm going to do, no matter who gets in the way.

And there WAS someone that moved her family, wasn't there? I remember seeing it on the network.

I think there was someone who moved! I don't blame them, though. If I had family here, I'd be more worried about them getting hurt.

What's your job? It sounds like you're working really hard! It's a good reason to stay - as good as anything else and you should be proud of it. [She just wishes she could be so determined.]

Right. I had to tell my mother and sister not to come to visit - it's far too dangerous. I can't really blame the people that left, either. There's a certain amount of risk involved in staying, and not everyone can afford to take that risk.

I'm not sure everyone else is quite so proud of my work, though - I'm here as part of the FBI team working the Numbers case. I take my work very seriously, but I think some of the people on the network resent us for not doing more.

That seems like a good reason too! Moving is a lot of stress. I suppose you have to weigh up the stress against the danger!

That's true! It's a good reason. Family is too. Is that why you stayed before everything that's happened lately?

My parents live in Iowa, so definitely not born here. I stay for friends and students, other people from this network-- I don't want to leave them behind to the trouble we face every day, alone.

Plus, now that we remember some of our other selves and retain some limited aspects of whatever powers we have, leaving just feels like becoming less, somehow. I miss the sense of smell, in particular. It's always like something is not quite right.

I think that's why I want to stay too. I'd feel so bad leaving everyone to face it, even though I can't make that much difference being here either.

You know, I'd forgotten that we keep bits but lose bits if we go. I've not left since I discovered the network, or for a while before then. I think I'd end up missing my eye sight, maybe. But you got a good sense of smell? That's really useful! And understandable why you'd miss it too.

This is Mr. Lyall, the werewolf. So sense of smell and hearing, at this point. I'm hoping no change to my sight comes next, to be honest, this is enough to be going on with. I like both changes now, on the whole, it makes it impossible to sneak up on me under most circumstances, but a city of this size is really terribly loud.

Anyhow. I leave for many of the full moons, since I'm much more manageable outside the city, so I'm familiar with the changes by now.

If it makes you feel any better, I don't think I make much of a difference, either. But just being here and standing together helps a little.

People have gotten hurt enough as it is. As long as I can help, I’ll remain. Perhaps even beyond that, although I do hope it doesn't reach that point.
