I was going to have a beach party this weekend for some of the numbered people, but given the sudden increase in mafia problems, I'm going to cancel. Sorry to everyone who was planning on coming out to the beach.

They're afraid of us... and what we might be able to do, I think.

[Ariel wished that watching each other's back would be enough, but since a large group of her uncle's side of the family was numbered... the chances of one of them getting hurt sooner rather than later was too great.]

Most of them can take care of themselves I think, but there are a few... well I'll still worry about them even if they were encased in titanium or something.

Tell me about it. It's so... silly. Especially since the only response seems to be violence. I'm pretty sure if any of us just tried to talk to the mafia, they'd curb stomp us or something.

I was just thinking armor, or something but carbonite works too.

Yeah... From what I hear, I wouldn't be surprised if they were that rude.

Oh right! armor works too, they'd actually be able to walk around in that.

My biggest fear as that the mafia is going to pick a fight with the wrong someone and then a lot of people are going to end up hurt.

Yeah! That's the idea I was going for.

You'd hope that they'd be a bit smarter than that, they are the mafia after all. ...But I can see it being pretty hard to tell what some of us can do.

The people with the brains in the mafia are rarely the ones out on the street. The ones with the brains wouldn't pick fights they know they can loose, unless it was a gamble they hoped to win something in.

Thugs on the other hand might be provoked into doing something stupid.

Wait, why wouldn't they send smart people out on the streets? That sounds like they're asking for trouble... and for dumb things to happen.

Usually because smart people don't like getting caught so minimize the chances of it. Which is what I am worried about. It isn't going to take much for a thug to decide they can do something without the boss' approval.

But wont their boss be unhappy with them if they do something like that?

Honestly, I guess it depends on the boss and on the underling. IDK. I'm not a mafia person. I'm just going off speculation from my police theory training.

I don't really know either, I just know what I've seen on TV or movies. Sounds like your guess is better than mine.

If the mafia has numbered people or enhanced people among them, then my guess probably isnt all that great. I could be completely wrong and I admit that.

You're doing your best with what you know about them, hard to be right when there's probably a lot we don't know about these guys.

Yeah, no kidding. And the only way to find out more is to fight them or join them and either option scares the crap outta me.
