[open] Axes of the Dwarves! The Dwarves are upon you!

Who: OPEN!!! Anyone and everyone is welcome here, please drop in!
When: March 15th.
Where: The Thorsson backyard.
What: Sparring! Characters who have no weapons yet but want to try out something, or who want to try out new weapons, are welcome as well!
Warnings: Violence.

Imagine that there was a network post asking for people to come to a afternoon of sparring and training/trying to force echoes. There was a specific emphasis in the post for people to not bring powers or firearms into the mix, only all kinds of short range weapons - swords, axes, knives, maces, halberds, anything really. A part of the idea, as was explained, was not only to provide a place to try out different weapons but also to have multiple people use weapons in a small area, allowing for battle echoes.

So the day has come! The place is the backyard of the Thorsson's downtown store/private buildings, a relatively large areal closed off with buildings belonging to the family on all sides.

There are all kinds of weapons - real ones and some larp weapons as well - on a table in a corner of the backyard that cannot be used for sparring since swings, a sandbox and a bench are located there. Protective gear like chainmail and helmets can be found as well. Some refreshments in form of apples, juice boxes and bananas, all in open boxes, have been placed next to them along with water in bottles.

So those that brought no weapons can borrow those proffered, and those that brought their own ones can try out others as well.

Some portion of combat experience must have come down with that axe-expertise as well, because he can tell more about what's going on with Thorir's body movements now than he used to be able to. Not that he hasn't always been able to read his brother to some degree, they are siblings, after all, but he's just noticing more on his own now. That familiarity with the sword and not-quite-so-familiarity with the axe are obvious to him where they wouldn't have been before.

"You ever known me to back down from anything like this?" The axes are lifted down and he turns, settling into a comfortable stance with them raised before his face, one foot slightly in front of the other. "I can kick you into next week."

"Seriously? We really have to get you some better taunts, you can't just re-purpose mine all the time." Contrary to Thorir, Hjalti is undoubtedly grinning. Moreso, it's a confident grin, exactly as if this isn't the first time this has happened. And, given that there was a pulse earlier, for his body it isn't, even if for his mind it is.

And that body memory is what kicks in the moment Thorir starts moving. His brother's running but he's not staying still, shifting his back leg to the side and pivoting on the ball of his foot as his brother rushes. His right hand sweeps out with its weapon, sweeping down in an arc to block the incoming sword, as his left swings in from the other direction in an upward chop with the dull blade. There's a harsh clang of metal meeting metal as the sword meets the shaft of the axe, and Hjalti continues the motion of the block, trying to sweep his brother's sword away.
