[Closed Action]
Who: Miles Edgeworth (
truthandlogic, Karl Aurion/Richard Locke (
flamberge)
Where: Tuning Towers
When: September 23rd, afternoon
What: After following the buzzing sound, Edgeworth gets hit with a double whammy of crappy echoes.
Warnings: Mentions of violence in one of Miles' echoes.
Edgeworth had already heard about the strange sounds downtown and considering that he couldn't avoid that with both the law firm and the courthouse being located there, he knew he was in for some annoyances during this morning's trial.
It wasn't a difficult trial, he had solid evidence proving his client's innocence to get past her lack of an alibi and the prosecutor was not nearly as skilled as he was. The buzzing sound definitely hindered him because he kept going back to thinking about what it could possibly be instead of focusing on the trial, but the trial was easily won and his client duly appreciative, though he just narrowly had avoided being enthusiastically hugged by her in gratitude for his work.
So now that he was away from the courthouse, he had most of the afternoon free. He just had one appointment with a client late in the afternoon. He had planned a quiet lunch in the area with an old acquaintance and then he was going to see if he could find out more about that strange sound.

Irksome as it was, canceling the lunch felt too extreme an action. He could tolerate this. Noisy did not amount to unbearable. It did perhaps cause his expression to appear more sour than usual as he walked down the street, but nothing more. What on earth caused the noise to begin with? As much as the curiosity rose about what the source might be, any investigation was going to wait. Being late and having a potentially lackluster explanation for why would not do. A mental note got made to properly look in this if not today then tomorrow.
His arrival would be perfectly punctual, as evidenced by a quick glance at his watch. Arriving in a timely fashion despite all the oddities and noise? Knowledge pleasant enough that it made the irritation lessen, if only slightly.

Still, like with Karl, a bit of noise isn't going to keep Miles from arriving on time as well. He will, however, consider suggesting an investigation if the both of them have some time. Two sets of ears and eyes can only make it easier. At the very least, he knows Karl is on the network and he can speak of this sort of thing with him.
He'll go ahead and walk up to the man. "Had I known the location would be poor I would have picked another one. Still, good to see you again."
for some reason i never got the alert for this /punts gmail
Though really, being able to see the future right now would be convenient. It might help reveal what the cause of the buzzing is and how to eliminate it from the face of the earth. Really, what could the possible source behind it be?
no subject
"I wouldn't have believed it even if I could. I do know it made this morning's trial far more difficult than it needed to be." He sighs, still remembering his narrow escape from being hugged. "I admit to being curious about it."
no subject
Although, the same sentiment regarding curiosity is shared by Karl. The cause of the noise had actually been plaguing him a majority of the day. Few things might be capable of making a continuous sound like this. As to what might be the culprit behind this noise in particular? He has no idea.

Maybe the thought gains a frown. Something which might cause a noise to continue for so long, what could such a source possibly be? A quick, if almost unnoticeable, glance around reveals no potential eavesdroppers. Good, best to not risk discussion on the subject when others were near. "Do you've any theories on the cause of it?"
no subject
He thinks a moment about Karl's question. What could be causing it? A sound requires something to produce said sound, but why can only they hear it and not the normal people? Was it some frequency only they could hear? Or something like the water that their DNA causes them to be able to hear it? Or something else entirely?
"None except for the fact that something has to be producing the sound and that something must be where the sound is the loudest."
no subject
Slaying a dragon feels a small price to pay to get the noise to stop. He now possesses the sword skills do so and acquiring some armor shouldn't be overly difficult. All this nonsensical thought gets both dismissed quickly enough and attributed to the buzzing getting to him. The noise's effects were so great that it feels as though the ground were starting to move. ...Or is that actually happening?
no subject
Miles' own thought is that they are going to find something related to Thunder Corp when they find the source, not so likely a three headed dragon. Of course, he's not one to believe in dragons and other fantasy creatures so his thoughts wouldn't go that route even with all their weirdness on the network and people admitting to being things that cannot exist.
And it definitely was getting far too loud here. Either the noise or the headache sure seemed to be throwing off Miles' sense of balance. "Why don't we go on inside?"
no subject
"Perhaps we might engage in such an extracurricular after a meal." Said extracurricular activity referring to doing a bit of investigating. When in Rome, as the saying goes. They were already there so might as well. Although, really, is it just him or does it feel as though the ground is vibrating slightly?
no subject
Once they got inside though, it was definitely obvious that things were no better, in fact it was far worse now that he could feel the ground shaking as well.
It wasn't very long before Miles could feel that horrible feeling that came before an echo, though it was somewhat worse this time, not that he realized he actually got two at once. He starts feeling quite lightheaded as the memory plays out in his head. The other him as a little boy, the earthquake and being trapped in an elevator, his father and the other man fighting, then a gunshot and a horrible scram. It's no wonder Miles looks shocked and horrified as he tries to keep his balance by grabbing at something, since he wasn't that far in when it happened he's close enough to the outer wall at least.
Not that his attempt was all that successful, the memory ends quite abruptly when the child version of his other self falls unconscious and the memory abruptly ends, and Miles ends up doing the same and he slides towards the floor.

One of the waitresses in the place quickly runs over to the two at the sight of one man collapsing. A frantic exchange of words between her and the approaching manager follow before they lead Karl to a booth where he could set Miles down.
Inquiries of whether or not an ambulance should be called were asked and promptly replied to with a no. Going to the hospital, a regular hospital, would be unwise. Karl reaches over to check the pulse and is relieved when it's normal. The worried waitress becomes relived when told Miles merely fainted and should be fine. Should his condition not improve within a few minutes, Karl would drag him to his car and drive him over to the clinic.
no subject
Once Karl gets him outside, he'll wake up a bit over ten minutes later, likely before Karl could get to the clinic. Outside of not being at all awake, definitely doesn't seem to be anything wrong with him. In fact, other than not being able to explain the cause, he could be taken to a regular hospital, not that there was really any medical reason for this, it was all mental.
no subject
He pulled up in front of the restaurant before lifting the unconscious man up and dragging him to the vehicle. Due to the watchful eyes of the staff and customers, the car speeds off in the direction of the hospital. A turn later, the destination changes to that of the clinic.
no subject
He doesn't say anything at first, but Karl may catch on that he woke up by some slight movement as he's trying to figure out what happened and where he is now. It only takes about a minute for Miles to become coherent enough to recall about what happened, at least about as much as he'd know since what he was aware of came to quite the abrupt stop. That fact alone gives him a good idea of what happened. He's still feeling a bit of the fear he was feeling during that memory as well. He closes his eyes again, that seems to help a bit.
"Sorry about that. Never had something like that happen before." He does sound reasonably coherent at that point, though his voice does give away that he's still feeling a bit anxious and shaky, but sounds otherwise fine.
no subject
"No need to apologize." No need whatsoever. It isn't as though falling unconsciously could be controlled, doubly so if this were pulse related. A red light soon temporarily stops the drive. Karl takes the opportunity to get a good look at the other man. Aside from the uneven voice, nothing else stands out as being wrong. Then again, looks may be deceiving. "Do you feel as though you require a trip to the clinic?"
no subject
He took a deep breath. Seriously, he's an adult, and never was that child. He didn't get trapped in an elevator and hear a man get shot and be scared that he was going to die before help came. Maybe that fear just isn't going away because he's still in a confined space that he cannot leave.
"Perhaps not. I'll know better once I actually try to stand up if it's because of some actual problem or if it was because of that memory and how it ended."
no subject
A frown crosses Karl's face just as the light turns green. Though no longer gazing at his passenger, the frown still remains. "...What would you have me do?" Does Miles want to continue being driven around or would he rather try to walk around? Whatever he desires will get done.
no subject
"Since it seems I haven't grown any horns or a tail or anything, maybe it would just be best for me to go back to the office." And see his father, he thinks, but doesn't say. After that sort of a memory, it just feels necessary. "I feel more embarrassed than anything else."
That last part definitely was not completely true, but he is sounding slightly calmer.
no subject
Some relief comes at the increasing calmness. Bouncing back quickly is truly a useful skill. "We've no control when it happens or what happens in regards to pulses." Read: you have no reason for embarrassment. Really, the same could happen to any of them. All of them hold the same risk for suddenly passing out for whatever reason.
no subject
Because something had to have been said, or he would have woken up in a hospital or ambulance. Best to ensure the stories matched up at least or at least come up with a cover story for it.

No more red lights caught them on the drive. It was nice and smooth sailing till the very end. Soon enough, the car pulled up right in front of Miles' building.
