hey, so the mine trip was a bust.
some chick hacked some emails and shit, and basically found some conversations that said the Sage of Earth of whatever was a total hoax, but that Thunder corp was specifically searching for something called "Target 1" underground.
considering how dumb it would be to just start digging tunnels and drilling everywhere, we assumed they'd be using the mines to search.

well, we were wrong. (big surprise)

i don't know if anyone ever really officially reported their findings or whatever.
basically, there were those weird blackfuzzy hairy things and it legit looked like they were on drugs.
that was about all we found, because everyone getting those weirdass pulses.
i sure do love when all our leads run dry!!!!!!!
^^^^sarcasm^^^^^

as for happy funtime karson updates, i finally passed out after staying awake for an entire goddamn month.
and completely hypothetically speaking and not linked to finally sleeping or any pulses i may or may not have had,
i have a question.
uh

does

anyone remember dying?
like, legit dying, you are dead and gone and there's no way you're coming back through magical superpowers and it's probably your fault that you died?

EDIT: according to people who can't be classified as legally insane because of lack of sleep, there was a buzzing sound in the mines.

[The scene: Marisa's backyard. The first second or two is her staring into the camera while she adjusts it, before backing up to a more reasonable distance.]

Okay so I came out of the mines with a different broom than the one I came in with. Weird, but not really that weird compared to the other stuff that goes on around here, right? But check this out.

[She reaches off screen and grabs a broom. It has a metal ring through the end of the handle, which is made of some kind of bamboo, and overall looks far more hand-made than anything you'd buy at the supermarket today. She puts it on the ground, then took a few steps back and pointed up.]

UP!

[The broom slowly, jerkily, stood up until the handle was pointing straight up into the air with no visible means of support.]

I can't do it to anything else but the broom, but it's a start! After all those memories of being a badass magician, it's starting to come true!

[Have you heard this voice before? It's probably hard to tell considering how absolutely toneless her voice is as she's speaking. Or maybe that's the dead giveaway? Either way it's pretty obvious this is going to be the opposite of a long emotional monologue.]

If I were to attempt to induce one of the memories, visions, whatever they are.

What would be the most effective way? I'm not stupid enough to think there's a foolproof way to make it happen, but I'd like to know if there's something I can do to increase my chances.

[A long pause, either deliberating on what to say, or whether or not to just stop talking.]

I had my first echo well over a month ago. Nothing since then.

Summer is ending, children, and with school teetering on the horizon, here's a chance to exercise your critical thinking skills as preparation.

I would like volunteers for an experiment. A very small one. It'll hardly take effort on your part, as I would not wish to interrupt your daily business. All you need is some recording equipment. Real recording equipment, not fake likely-incorporeal dubiously-"magical" recording equipment used by this network. Digital or analog are acceptable. A webcam or phone camera will suffice.

So, after some discussion with various people, I decided it would be a good idea to have some kind of central database of what we know. Or, to be more accurate, of what we have learned through echoes.

However, there are some logistical problems, especially regarding anonymity. It doesn't seem like the network is a good place to post this information, since you can't disguise who you are. I thought about it, and I think the best plan is to use a google doc. You can find it here.

It's completely anonymous, so anyone can edit it. Obviously this means there's a risk of vandalism, and we can't verify anything you add, but it seems like the best solution. I've already added what I know - it's not very exciting, so I don't mind sharing it. If you think of any extra categories we should have, please add them in.

Ok, that's it from me. If you have any questions, do get in touch.

EDIT: So lots of people have been providing help and suggestions.

1. The document is going to be hosted on a private server, with some additional security. You can still edit anonymously, but it should be a little safer.

2. If you are corroborating something, please add an x next to the item. That way we'll know how many people have similar experiences in common.

[For once, Bertholdt is outside of his apartment. This is a very strange thing, considering he's always closed up inside away from everyone. Despite his shyness, even shut ins have to get groceries and Bertholdt had decided to take his work with him, stopping to sit in the park before he heads home. It's not too hot out, which means he won't overheat, around five o'clock in the evening. It's getting a little cooler out generally now anyway.]

[He can be seen sitting on a bench in the park with a thick manuscript in his hands, checking through each page slowly. After a while he'll pause in his work to light a cigarette and relax back against the bench. For anyone who's only known Bertholdt over the Network, it might be alarming to find out that he's 6'5". While he's sitting down, it's apparent that he's really tall regardless.]

[He's not a big talker, but maybe he'll appreciate some company?]

Music theory is the dumbest class.

I only keep showing up for the hot music majors honestly.

Although "Asian dude with bleached hair" has gotten a lot less exotic-seeming since I got on this network.

Seriously is everyone on here from Japantown?

Anyway I'm bored and this network doesn't require a wifi connection.

...

*sigh*

This is so stupid. I'd rather be playing violin. Or electrocuting something for science. Physics is the best. Although with all the weird crap that's going on here I'm thinking of taking more biology classes if I can fit them in. I got my first pulse echo whatever on a bio lab trip, so maybe if I go on more that'll happen again.

...

Is anyone else on this thing this morning?

Typing this out so it's easier... Here we go.

Hey everyone, it's Ryan from the fire department. I know things are a little tense with everything going on, but if you ask me then there's no better time to start making preparations and working together, right?

Anyway, that's what this is. I've talked to my captain and he agreed to lend us the community center to put on some first aid and search and rescue training sessions for everybody. Depending on how many people we get, this could be a monthly or bi-weekly thing, too. It's up to you guys.

The sign-up sheet is going up outside the firehouse (it's open to the public) but seeing as how I started it with the Numbers Club in mind, feel free to leave me a note or something with your name (or whatever you want to be identified as, go crazy) here if you're interested. If you have any ideas or would like to help with preparation at all, let me know.

There's gonna be sandwiches and snacks for our first meeting, so feel free to bring your friends.

[The page is covered with notes on the roses she has been tending – measurements of growth, records of infections and fungus attacks, times of watering – everything that might be useful to the next generation of plants. Rita reaches over and scrawls the number at the bottom of the page, and then watches in disbelief as half the notes disappear beneath a wall of text.

She reads carefully over as many of the old posts as she can, following the links to the FAQ. As she reads, she mutters out loud to herself.]

This is so weird. It seems so impossible, and yet it’s happening. I’m sure it is happening. I haven’t gone mad, though the world might have. And the roses. How do I explain them? Why do they feel so familiar?

[She realizes that this is being transmitted.]

Well that’s awkward. My apologies to anyone who runs across this. I didn't realize how, ah, flexible the system was. And if you are listening, then I suppose I should say nice to meet you.
