Who: Makani 'Mac' Kapule and whoever
Where: A cafe in town, near Locke University.
When: August 13th
What: I bring a jerk who might actually be doing work and you come bug him.
It shouldn't be this weird, going to a coffee shop. It shouldn't feel this weird doing something normal after a week or two of nothing but weirdness.
But here he is trying to focus on some problems for class, dead-eyeing the logic gates as he idly tip-taps away at a billion other things, grabbing a coffee (iced, of course) and taking a sip.
He's lost track of the days since he discovered the network of nutcases, and it's been a bumpy ride. He's still not sure what to make of half of this.
Ugh, whatever. He's just going to chill out at a coffee shop, enjoy his favorite iced caffinated drink, and try to focus on reality instead of a bunch of crazy numbers-toting peeps.
Hopefully. Maybe.

Her second mistake was fishing her phone out from her pocket immediately after getting her coffee, adding once again to the number of things she's carrying (her skateboard, minor damages from the car crash finally repaired, under one arm; her backpack, a bag with some Jimmy Johns, an umbrella under her other arm, plus the addition of a hot coffee). It turns out balancing a coffee and a plastic bag in the same hand isn't actually that hard when you're looking where you're going and paying attention to your surroundings.
And that would be the third mistake.
Because Avery is texting Karson Valenti, since she has nothing better to do with her life than harass highschoolers via text. Avery is too busy texting Karson motherfucking Valenti one-handed to notice the chair sorta sticking out-ish into the walking aisle from the table, due to the kind of larger-than-usual dude sitting in it. Maybe that douche shouldn't have sat with his chair sort of sticking out into the walking space because as mentioned before, Avery isn't looking where she's going -- she's looking at her phone, which is why she slams sideways into the edge of Mac's chair, sending an unflattering gob of coffee flying from the narrow spout of the to-go coffee cup and into the unsuspecting innocent's lap.

A hand shoots out to steady Avery, just in case she was about to fall over from that not-paying attention experience. Alt-tabbing away from whatever he was doing, he grabbed some nearby napkins to pass to the innocent.
"Aloha `ino. You okay?"
The first phrase is a little hard to understand, but obviously Hawaiian, he arches an eyebrow at you, as if he noticed it was your own damn fault but he's not going to publicly condemn someone he doesn't know.

At first she was pretty sure he was talking to her would-be burn victim, but then she notices he's looking at her.
"Huh?" Because of course she wasn't paying attention. Hasn't that become apparent yet? Her phone buzzes with a message from Karson but she jams it back in her pocket, huffing through her nose and scratching her toe on the ground.

Rita is not a huge coffee fan - tea is her drink of choice - but a cafe will have other people, and she doesn't want to be alone today. She collects her laptop and her notebooks and heads off to the closest coffee shop.
She orders an iced peppermint tea and tucks herself into a corner. She has a list of things she needs to do - plan assignments for the coming semester, work out a winter rotation for the south plot in greenhouse five, make some more notes on the strange roses - but instead she finds herself drawing patterns in her notebooks and people watching. There are a few of businessmen and women on their laptops, one or two lecturers, a host of university students and what must be some of the local high-school kids.
As the minutes pass her mind wanders away from the present, and her gaze drifts so that she ends up staring vacantly at one boy, not even registering what she's looking at.

Yes, Mac is the type to make small talk (and even maybe flirt? He doesn't think this is flirting shush.) at a coffee shop. The first year university student waves a hand at her. He's not sitting far from her, his laptop still open as he types away (not breaking eye contact, of course. Touch typing is rad) and works on his problems for once. Not that he isn't guilty of people watching himself, but there's the occasional hint of interesting factors in someone who does.
He straightens his leather jacket a bit, cricking his neck. "It's a real scorcher out, huh? Didn't think it'd be this hot this late in the season."

"Oh my, I'm sorry. I was lost in thought." She shifts slightly, orienting herself more directly towards him. "It is warm, isn't it? I only came here to get out of the house, but the air conditioning is very pleasant bonus."
She takes a sip of her tea and flips her notebook closed, just in case. No sense in letting this young man see what she wrote about the roses.

Setting up his laptop and setting down his coffee, Thomas let out a hard sigh before getting to work. Some days he wished he'd gotten into something easier than engineering. After letting off a bit of steam working, he looked over the top of his laptop as he took a drink of his coffee. He spotted the logic gates over Makani's shoulder and decided 'what the hell.' Socializing might be just what the doctor ordered.
Grabbing his coffee and getting to his feet, Thomas walked over to Makani and tapped him on the shoulder. "Sorry, spotted your laptop as I was having my drink and I was curious. Engineering or programming?"
