open log for sad pathetic orphaned teens
Who: Danny and YOU!
When: October 22nd to 25th, roughly?
Where: Locke City University Hospital
What: Danny's just survived a mafia attack. His family....not so much.
Warnings: uhhh, more angst than I typically go for?
[Most of Danny's time since the attack has been spent in one of three ways: trying really hard not to completely freak out, numbly staring into the distance, and sleeping. The latter hasn't been going so well, though, because of nightmares, so he's mostly down to trying not to freak out (with very little success), and feeling too blank to freak out.
It's not a great way to exist, but he can't think of anything else to do in this hospital bed. He could connect to the network but...he's kind of scared to. He doesn't know what he'll find on there, and he isn't sure he wants to find out.
But as far as staring at a blank white wall and choking back tears goes, this isn't so bad.]

She didn't know what to do or what to say to him. Was there anything she could say to make this better? She couldn't imagine anything would be able to do that.
She gulped and took a nervous step back.
Maybe there wasn't anything she could say to make this right, but she knew she couldn't do nothing at all. Danny wouldn't have left her alone if something like that had happened to her and she wasn't going to do that to him.
So she gathered her courage and took a few shaky steps toward the door and let herself in.]
...Danny?
Hey...
[She did it.]

He doesn't even get a view of who walked into the room. He doesn't much care. Although he does recognize the voice as being Robyn's.]
I-I didn't--know they were letting in visitors.
[His voice is shaking and wavering even as he tries to keep it steady. He sounds choked up. (He is choked up.)]

He has no idea what to actually say or do. He's always been bad at this, he feels most comfortable being a dumb distraction and it hardly seems appropriate right now.
No, he really has no idea how to deal with something so terrible, rather than just be there. It's one of the rare occasions where he actually knocks on the door, gingerly, before poking his head in.]

The knock on the door is just a little too loud, and Arthur doesn't really waste much time doing anything like waiting for an answer.]
Ahoy there, chum.
[At least he's not being as loud and exciteable as normal. That's something.
no subject
[It's really weird for someone as boisterous as Arthur typically is to show up not only with flowers, but also with volume control and some semblance of tact. It's kind of disturbing, not just to see, but also as an indicator of the gravity of the situation.]
I...I didn't think publicly numbered people would show.

Melissa stops by the hospital, knocking quietly on the door so she doesn't surprise him, stepping into the room.] Hey, Danny...

I bet you've already figured out all the details, huh? With the police force all working on the case and all.

She's given Danny a lot of shit, and she feels a little awkward when she shows up and knocks on his door with just the most meaningless-feeling flowers ever in hand. ]
no subject
Uh...hi.
[He says it cautiously. On the one hand, all their fighting seems so trivial compared to what just happened. But on the other hand, it's the only interaction he's had with her, so he can't fathom why she'd be here.]

Someone would probably write some cockamamie story about how she was trying to coerce him to the dark side if she did that.
In terms of casing the hospital, finding the window to Danny's room, figuring out the best way in... well, it wasn't difficult, now that she knew how. After all, it was a hospital, not Fort Knox or wherever her other self liked to ply her trade.
Pulling it off was a little trickier. It was an hour or so after lights out when she finally shimmied the window to his room open and slipped inside. Wearing all black, of course.]

Probably one of Albero's men come to finish what they'd started.
Danny's tired and doesn't want to deal with anything any more, and even if he could fight...the memory of those two mafia cronies' bodies is still fresh. He's not ready to fight back, not after that. So he can't do anything other than look surprised.]

He didn't expect to see Danielle. He doesn't know why--with everything else, it just didn't cross his mind. So seeing someone now who was almost family to him but is in fact just another product of how twisted and messed up his life was...he feels horrified.
His past life was what caused the mafia to break in and kill his family. His past life was what caused this poor girl to turn into some warped literal clone of him.
It wasn't something he'd ever done or could have helped, but Danny regrets nothing more than his past life right now. He looks like he's about to cry.]

(Idly, he wonders if being in ghost form would solve that problem. Not that he'd test the theory out.)
Still, he tries to respond, even as he keeps his eyes trained on his lap. He can barely speak around the awful choking feeling.]

THE TAVIA SERKET CHEER-UP SQUAD, IS WHAT. Meaning Octavia knocks (eight times, obviously) at the door before sloooowly edging her head around it. ]
Whoooooooo waaaaaaaants cake?
[ TA-DAAAH. She flaps her way into the room, beaming and wielding a huge, expensive-looking cake that has had a giant number eighteen scraped off the frosting and replaced with a rather wobbly D.
An actual letter D. It's not a dick cake. I love that I legitimately have to make this clear. ]

To Danny Fenton:
My name is Amy Dylandy. I can't remember if we've ever talked before, but I know we're both Numbered. I won't get hung up on things like saying I know what you're going through, but I lost my brother recently, so in a way we're similar. I want you to know that I wish you the best and that I'm sorry for your loss. If you want to talk, my number is included with this note.
Stay strong,
Amy Dylandy
no subject
Later that night, he takes the letter and reads it, and he can't help but feel hollow all the while. Even if she lost her brother, he doubts she understands what he's going through and what he's feeling, and even more than that, he doubts that talking will help anything. Everything seems useless, he feels powerless.
Danny folds the letter up and replaces it back on top of the tin at his bedside. He turns around the opposite direction and curls up to sleep, even if he knows he won't manage to.
(Days later, he'll think back to the letter and at least appreciate the meaning behind it, but for now it, like everything else, just seems to make things worse.)]

With another sigh, the phone goes back into a pocket. He's been at the hospital for two days straight. Sick days, might as well use it, especially for something like this. That isn't to say he's been in Danny's room the whole time. Kid needs space. Karl's taken to sitting in either the cafeteria or waiting area when not with him. Leaving Danny alone entirely, however, was also a bad idea. Karl knows far too well how it feels to lose family at the hands of the mob, how it hurts and how maddening it is. What is needed most now is the support of friends.
One way to support someone is by making sure they don't starve to death. At around noon and armed with a plate of food, Karl knocks before stepping inside the room. The hospital has some pretty good grub (and maybe Karl paid extra to make sure Danny gets good stuff when he's not around, too).]
no subject
So when the hospital staff began to bring him food, he simply ignored it. When they caught on to that, they began sending in nurses who would watch him and force him to eat until his plate was clean--it was that, or IV, and they really didn't want to take measures that drastic when it was really unnecessary.
So when Karl enters with food, he doesn't really react, even though he hasn't eaten for quite a while now. He simply glances briefly at the man, then focuses on the far wall again.]
Hey.

He shows up at the door, decked out in some ridiculously dopey cloud print pajamas. Because for some reason his parents brought them instead of something more sensible. Not that he can really complain, because he still has parents to embarrass him, even if things have been getting strained.
After pausing for a bit to collect his thoughts, he opens the door. And then realizes he should've probably knocked first. Oh well, too late. ]
Um. Danny? [ ... ] It's... me.
