What: Danny's just survived a mafia attack. His family....not so much.
Warnings: uhhh, more angst than I typically go for?


[Most of Danny's time since the attack has been spent in one of three ways: trying really hard not to completely freak out, numbly staring into the distance, and sleeping. The latter hasn't been going so well, though, because of nightmares, so he's mostly down to trying not to freak out (with very little success), and feeling too blank to freak out.

It's not a great way to exist, but he can't think of anything else to do in this hospital bed. He could connect to the network but...he's kind of scared to. He doesn't know what he'll find on there, and he isn't sure he wants to find out.

But as far as staring at a blank white wall and choking back tears goes, this isn't so bad.]

[Robyn had no idea what to do. She had been standing about five feet to left of room Danny was in for nearly ten minutes now. She just stared at the door but was too nervous and afraid to walk in to see him.

She didn't know what to do or what to say to him. Was there anything she could say to make this better? She couldn't imagine anything would be able to do that.

She gulped and took a nervous step back.

Maybe there wasn't anything she could say to make this right, but she knew she couldn't do nothing at all. Danny wouldn't have left her alone if something like that had happened to her and she wasn't going to do that to him.

So she gathered her courage and took a few shaky steps toward the door and let herself in.]

...Danny?

[She did it.]

[Oh great. She caught him in one of the moments where he can't stop thinking about what happened, watching everything replay over and over again in his head on repeat. He's lucky in that at the very least, he's not outwardly crying, although he certainly feels like he is, so when the door swings open, Danny pulls up his knees and rests his forehead on them, hiding his face from view.

He doesn't even get a view of who walked into the room. He doesn't much care. Although he does recognize the voice as being Robyn's.]

I-I didn't--know they were letting in visitors.

[His voice is shaking and wavering even as he tries to keep it steady. He sounds choked up. (He is choked up.)]

[It...

It really hurts her to see him like this. She can't imagine what he's going through right now, but she knows it wrong. He was one of her best friends and he didn't deserve to be in so much pain. ...To have lost so much.

She takes a few very small and quiet steps further into the room.]

Y-yeah. They are.

[Okay. That was kind of dumb of her to say. Of course, they were.

She can feel her heart wrench as continues along toward the bed and just stands beside it for now. She looks at him and tries to say something but no words come out. After a moment passes, she'll gently place a hand down on his shoulder.]

[He flinches at the touch. Not only was he not expecting it, but with the memories of the mafia attacking him and killing his family so fresh in his memory, any kind of contact puts him on high alert.

It's only a few moments later that he remembers it was Robyn. Just Robyn.]

[Emil heard the news, of course. He saw Karl's network post. He and Danny weren't exactly close, but they were friendly enough, so Emil feels like he should visit.

He has no idea what to actually say or do. He's always been bad at this, he feels most comfortable being a dumb distraction and it hardly seems appropriate right now.

No, he really has no idea how to deal with something so terrible, rather than just be there. It's one of the rare occasions where he actually knocks on the door, gingerly, before poking his head in.]

[There are some things that manage to break through Arthur's general volume and good cheer. Hearing that a kid's in the hospital after his parents were killed by the mafia is one of those things. Arthur has wasted no time in trying to get over to that hospital to try to see if there's anything he can do. He's brought flowers, but he didn't have time to buy any, so it's an arrangement he took from a wedding reception at the Las Vegas chapel where he's been working as an ordained Elvis impersonator.

The knock on the door is just a little too loud, and Arthur doesn't really waste much time doing anything like waiting for an answer.]

Ahoy there, chum.

[At least he's not being as loud and exciteable as normal. That's something.

[Robyn pulls back when he flinches. That obviously wasn't the best move to make. He had been through so much, she should have known better. She took a step back and grabbed a chair. She pulled it up and just sat down beside the bed for now.]

N-no. I'm sorry, don't worry about it.

[Melissa debated over whether or not she should go see Danny- she knows the kid, decently at least, but she's also aware that most of their interactions have been of the more intense variety and she's not sure her presence will be the most welcome.

But if nothing else, she owes it to both Robyn and Karl. Not to mention... god does she feel for the kid.

Melissa stops by the hospital, knocking quietly on the door so she doesn't surprise him, stepping into the room.] Hey, Danny...

[ It's later in his stay, and Marina's sure that Jasmine's okay-ish, and not sure about anyone else being really okay, but she manages to tie up her hair under a dark-haired wig and make her way to Locke City anyways. Hopefully that'll be enough - she's not as publicly known as some, and kind of innocuously normal with her blue hair hidden.

She's given Danny a lot of shit, and she feels a little awkward when she shows up and knocks on his door with just the most meaningless-feeling flowers ever in hand. ]

[It was a lot easier than she'd expected, once she put her mind to it. Slipping away from the handful of reporters and photographers who were still trying to hound her had become habit by now, but she still wouldn't be doing Danny any favors by visiting him publicly.

Someone would probably write some cockamamie story about how she was trying to coerce him to the dark side if she did that.

In terms of casing the hospital, finding the window to Danny's room, figuring out the best way in... well, it wasn't difficult, now that she knew how. After all, it was a hospital, not Fort Knox or wherever her other self liked to ply her trade.

Pulling it off was a little trickier. It was an hour or so after lights out when she finally shimmied the window to his room open and slipped inside. Wearing all black, of course.]

[He may be traumatized, but that doesn't mean he isn't alert. He shifts in his bed when he hears the window open and spots someone climbing in. All black--whatever this is, it's probably no good.

Probably one of Albero's men come to finish what they'd started.

Danny's tired and doesn't want to deal with anything any more, and even if he could fight...the memory of those two mafia cronies' bodies is still fresh. He's not ready to fight back, not after that. So he can't do anything other than look surprised.]

[Danny doesn't bother with the pleasantries of inviting him in. What's the use?]

Hey.

Haven't seen you in a while.

[He looks up, shifting his gaze from the end of his bed over to the corner of the room where Melissa passes through the doorway.]

Hey.

I bet you've already figured out all the details, huh? With the police force all working on the case and all.

[It takes him a moment to recognize who this is when she appears in the doorway. He looks visibly confused until he vaguely recalls all the arguments they've had. Not that that really explains why she's here now.]

Uh...hi.

[He says it cautiously. On the one hand, all their fighting seems so trivial compared to what just happened. But on the other hand, it's the only interaction he's had with her, so he can't fathom why she'd be here.]

Uh, hi there.

[It's really weird for someone as boisterous as Arthur typically is to show up not only with flowers, but also with volume control and some semblance of tact. It's kind of disturbing, not just to see, but also as an indicator of the gravity of the situation.]

I...I didn't think publicly numbered people would show.

[It takes him a few minutes.

He manages to keep it quiet, but Robyn might sometimes hear a sharp intake of breath. She might spot his shoulders shaking, sometimes quite heavily.

But only for a few minutes. After that, Danny manages to pull himself together. His breathing slows and quiets down, he manages to go still. He wishes he could've just avoided all that and buried it down out of existence to begin with, but the world has demonstrated quite clearly that it likes to make a mockery of him. But finally, when he thinks he's ready, he slowly lifts his head up and rests it on the arm that sits on his knees.]

What...what are they saying about it?

[It was weird to walk into the hospital and have no one recognize her. There were some stares, her hair was still too white,, but no one stopped her. A kid was hardly a threat. At least he wasn't hard to find. She'd been in the hospital enough to know where they'd probably stick him.]

[She didn't hesitate at the door. She was fairly sure that being alone was far from what he needed and...and maybe her presence would be good for him.]

[She hoped so.]

Probably not all of them, but I get the gist. [To be fair, she's pretty sure she could have figured out most of it with any insider info.

She moves over to the bed, running a hand through her hair.] God, I'm sorry, Danny.

[ Eyes cast downward - precisely because all she's ever done is give him shit - she steps cautiously into the room, lifting the flowers halfheartedly as a show of why she's here. ]

...sorry. [ Muttered, maybe, not loud enough for him to hear, as she walks into the room. ]

[Not being told to get out is as good as an invitation. He shuffles in, hands in pockets.]

[ While they are not exactly friends, they do get along fairly well over the network so even though he's still kinda pissed at him over what happened with Robyn, Eugen still makes the trip to visit. No one should suffer what the boy had... Eugen knows first hand just how painful it is to lose someone important, which is why even if he couldn't do much, he hopes his presence would reassure Danny that there are still people who cares for him.

He knocks on the door gently before letting himself in, quietly closing the door behind him. ] Don't hold yourself back. [ Placing the few copies of comic books on the bed stand, he takes the seat next to the bed. ] Cry.

[He sort of rubs at the back of his neck as he considers things.]

Well, I just wanted to see if there was anything I could DO! We've gotta STICK TOGETHER and all that!

[He looks down at the blanket covering his legs, picking at it gently.]

It's not like I've got anyone else any more.

[He doesn't know how to respond to that. Apologies are nothing but nice words. They can't do anything to fix the situation. But he can't get angry about it--Melissa was just being kind.

He breathes in sharply, and then lets it out shakily.]

No, it's--i-it's--

I should've expected to find three mafia goons breaking into my house and killing my family. I don't know why I didn't--[not even sure how to phrase it, he simply makes a strangled choking noise indeed.]

[She's not even sure why she showed up, it wasn't as if she knew Danny well, after all. But in the end, she decided to drop by the night after the funeral for Anthony, convinced more than ever that the Mafia needed to be dealt with. They kidnapped Robyn, tried to kill her Arthur, tried to kill her, making this all very personal.
