Where: Overland, on the way from Locke to... look, with Vegas sitting on it it's not really lonely, is it? The Mountain of Sin?
When: Backdated somewhat - maybe the eighth to the 12th?


Two RVs, multiple cars, and a very long road studded with stops to keep the tedium and close quarters bearable. No one going has any intention of staying away from Locke for good, but being away for a while and getting family out of danger sounds good. There are things that can be left for now and nabbed through the portal later. Other things, and some people and animals, can't quite get through and have to travel the long way.

[There will be a few subthreads. Just tag wherever you want, with whomever you want, and don't worry about backdating or slowness.]

[Just outside Locke's boundary, all special items vanish or become mundane, all powers dim to about ten percent potency, and physical changes diminish the same way or vanish outright, but leave the impression that they should still be there. A lot of memories fog up.

It's prudent to stop for a bit to adjust seating, cars, and clothing, and to feel weird and poke at each other.]

[Julien regularly leaves Locke for brief periods, so he's used to this. He looks basically human, though with short claws for nails, white hairlike down on his arms, and rather long reddish feet, with long grasping clawed toes. Unable to quite shake the idea that he should have a tail, he sits gingerly on a car's bumper to put on huge blue flip-flops and tends to stand on the balls of his feet, bend his arms like he's playing velociraptor, and feel short.]

[Aside from her accent changing, Isabela remains, well... Isabela. Perfectly ordinary human, assuming piercings and tattoos made her ordinary.]

You look like you're auditioning for Jurassic Park, Blue.

You look tall. [But he's smiling, and hesitantly lowers his arms and sinks back into a more human standing position.] Yeah, this is just weird!

All things considered, this probably isn't the weirdest.

[Ariel Doesn't need to adjust her seat or anything, but she is happy to get out of the car and stretch her legs while the extended family reorganizes and adjusts. During that time she checks on her parents, who have rented a moving van, her sister who is riding in one of the RVs pouting with headphones on and making the rounds to check on her cats who have thankfully been sequestered in the second RV away from the army of dogs. She is also checking to see if there needs to be any shuffling of people or things done before hitting the road again. ]

[Julien blinks at Ariel. He's standing the way he's learned to over the past six months, which on a mostly human body looks like he's pretending to be a dinosaur. Which does fit with the claws that are sticking around. If he stood normally he'd be five foot five. Going digigrade doesn't add that much to it.]

Wow, you sure got tall! Let me look at your... [what was it, it's obvious] ears.

And now you're a shortie!

[She is actually an inch taller than him if he stands normally. It's actually refreshing.

She turns her head to show him her ears. They still had points to them, but the were petite now.]

I know! There's like two people I can still look down on. How disheartening.

[He cranes his neck peering at Ariel's ear, aware that his eyesight has diminished but not clear on just how.]

Cute. I don't suppose your dad will want pictures!

[This trip crosses the continental United States and spans more than two thousand five hundred miles - or over four thousand kilometers. This gets BORING. Endure it as you can. Chat and bicker in cars or over the phone, or stretch your legs on one of the rest stops.]

[Not being a driver, Liam seems to always be stuck in the back of somebody's car. Right now he's dead asleep with ear buds still shoved in his ears playing music. Depending upon which car he's in, he may or may not be invading someone's personal space. Did someone slip him some benedryl...?]

B:

Guys, I have to go to the bathroom can we stop?

[At some point in this, he's asleep in the same car as Julien while Julien is also in the back. As the highway goes ever onwards he turns towards Liam speculatively, caught by the sudden impulse to try and braid that long blond hair.]

[Liam's pretty dead asleep and leaning towards Julien slightly. It doesn't look like he'd wake up too easily.]

[Liam has such long hair! And he knows how to take care of it, evidently. Maybe... just a little bit. Delicately Julien touches a lock and rakes down it with his claws, separating it into three.]

[Fil didn't have to slip Liam anything; that was all Liam. Currently Fil is asking why, oh why is he stuck in the back seat with a guy he's not liking too much these days, a guy that's currently a few degrees from completely sprawling all over Fil.

Well, if Liam's going to do that, then Liam will have to pay a price.

He'd taken a black Crayola Washables marker off one of the kids earlier...time to put it to good use. He'll start with the word 'idiot' in Kuzdul on Liam's forehead.... ]

[Liam's face twitches as it's being written on. He shifts, trying to get away from the marker and settling more comfortable on Fil's lap. It was a comfy lap.]

[Fil hopes you enjoy your sleep, Liam. He's definitely enjoying himself right now and is imagining your face when you wake up.

He finished the Kuzdul word for 'idiot' on the forehead and started on a seriously wicked set of whiskers underneath the nose out to the cheeks.]

[Somewhere in around Missouri, the group is stopping early for the night, with plenty of light in the sky. There's an outdoor waterpark close by, and with summer ending and kids back in school they'd surely welcome the custom. There's a wave pool, a lazy river, a splash pad, various slides, and whatever else. Why not take the afternoon here - or chill somewhere more mature while the kids play, whatever.]

[Fil isn't completely fond of pools after his last brush with it during his little advantage with the teleporter. But it's a hot day and the kids need watching so he's wading in the shallow pools and a snazzy pair of sunglasses perched on his nose. Later on, he might be able to talk himself into going into the wave pool but for now, he's perfectly fine wading with the kiddies.]

[Julien is getting some second glances, but no one's confronted him yet. With his feet in the shallow water and water making the fuzz on his arms cling, he barely looks odd at all.

He sees Fil and a presently unattended water cannon, and tries to reach and aim it without Fil noticing.]

[Fil thought the kiddie pool looks kinda like a bird bath with Julien wading in it.

And nope, he wasn't paying attention at all, having 2 screaming kids in front of him will do that. So you'll get a loud squawk of outrage when that watershot gets him right in the chest.]

Julien! Whatever did I do to you!

[This was a MUCH needed break for her, and probably the last bit of non freaky Las Vegas water she is going to see, so she is rocking a bikini and a ponytail and having some fun in the wave pool and then relaxing in the lazy river.]

[Water is Isabela's playground, Miss Ariel, so she is playing up the shenanigans. You are probably getting playfully splashed. A lot. And the lads are probably enjoying the show]

[ She is more than happy to splash back, laughing as she does so. She is after all just as at home in the water as Isabela is. And if people are enjoying the show, well then she just won't think about it too much. ]

[Almost there, and the mountain is visible and has been getting clearer as you go. Or, actually there, passing into the boundary. The trip is over. What now?]
