[It had been a few weeks since her last encounter with the snake attack in downtown but she never could have thought that everything would end up like this. Nevertheless, now that she was on the network?

Looks like she didn't have a choice. With a heavy sigh, she finally responded.]

So I got a quick question. Is there anyone here who doesn't want to be a part of this?

No offense but this isn't the type of thing I would go for. If you want to, then go ahead but I'm not suited for this. Between that snake attack and those aliens, there's got to be something else for those who can't handle it. Yeah, yeah, I can go help at the hospital but who wants to deal with seeing that everyday? That's a lot for an adult or even a kid to handle don't you think? What can a 10 year old do here?

[And not die in the process? However, there was some tapping noises coming from her other end.]

Whatever, I just want someone to get the numbers out of my head! I don't need another snake attack destroying the city or killing me!

[But she did have to admit, she was a little curious about whoever that person was that saved her.]

Communications, research, finding things that people need, you just figure out for yourself what you feel comfortable with.

Then don't get involved. I can't say it will keep you from getting killed again. In fact, it might make people less inclined to help you if you did need help.

Well, what if the people you do want to help out don't even bother helping you anyway? What will you do then?

Then they're really not people you should be hanging around. This whole group is less of a working machine anyways. We're much more like a bunch of cats, fighting each other over tidbits than actual superheroes.

Even if you're really really close to them? Well, not that close but just enough?

Whatever, superheroes or not, we're still going to probably be one in the eyes of everyone else outside of Locke City and Las Vegas!

Then you've got no choice but to grin and bear it and try not to take potshots at their heads.

If you mean smacking some sense into their heads? Then wouldn't it be great if I could do that. But nooo, sometimes people just don't want to listen no matter how much you want them to.

If life could really work that way.

It's gotta work sometime. At least they would realize a smack was coming their way and try not to warrant the smack.

Life works the way you want it to work. You just gotta work at it.

And yet, no matter how much you do, they just flat out ignore you and do their own thing. Even when you want to argue with them too.

Then how do you work with it? With people that just don't want to listen even when you want them to.

Let them get burned. If they can't figure out that they're gonna get hurt, then let them get hurt. It's the only way some people will ever learn.

And do want to help out but they just...can't?

Yah. Those are the hardest ones too. Babying them would probably just make things worse.

I don't think I'm babying them, I'm making it clear about what I want to do with them. But...they just don't want to listen at this point even though I do care a lot about them.

Sometimes in order to show how much you love them, you just have to let them go do their things.

And be there for them to help pick up the pieces.

That's a lot you're asking for. I just can't let go of something that important to me like they're nothing!

I was prepared to let my important person go if he had no memory of the other life. Even now, I am prepared that he'll forget and leave again. I think it's a sign of how much you care that you can let them be themselves no matter how much it hurts you.

[For a couple of seconds Katie thought about this. How could she just leave her parents just like that? Sure they were pretty neglectful and all she wanted was their attention but they never did.

Can she just leave them like that to show how much she cared about them? There was a longer pause.]

But they're still my parents...

Family hurts worse, but... I rather not get my family involved in this instead of getting them involve and watching them not understand anything and get hurt because of it.

...You know, I never really thought about it that way.

But then again, people have said I'm selfish for wanting a lot more out of my family and I still you.

It's not selfish to want more from family, but it can be selfish to drag them into something they cannot even begin to understand.

Keeping them safe and away from this might be better than dragging them into it and destroying them.

[Sigh]

Maybe but eventually, they will have to know sooner or later. It just sucks that there isn't much I can do about it if they can't really understand what is going on!

I don't know, I don't want keep them in the dark about it but...what else can I do?

When that time comes, then tell them. For now, just try to keep them from getting involved.
