[There's a brunette almost glaring at the screen when it flips on, but you just get a quick flash of the person before he's flipping the camera to a blue and navy flight suit complete with a matching helmet which is laid out on his very messy bed.]

I was going to ignore this but I guess I can't now considering this damn thing showed up on me while outside- in public... does it mean anything to anyone on here?

[He holds the phone on the suit for a moment longer before he's flipping it around to face him again. Deren has his hand up in his hair, resting heavily on it from his somewhat hunched position at his desk. The wall behind him is covered in posters and IKEA style shelving and the room he's in is pretty tiny.]

Also- anyone on here know anything about space and giant robots? I remember a few from when the snake attacked but I have no idea who they are on here and god I have a migraine- just help? [He both looks and sounds exhausted, and a little irritable.]

"Fought" is a generous term for what happened with me, but yes, I was there in the giant orange robot.

Us pilots and our robots belong to the FBI now. If you're telling me you think you're one too, as soon as you get it, expect the same to happen.

Belong to the FBI? How the hell does that work? Did they hire you?

Not really hired. More like, if we don't comply with their demands and act as they see fit, they can easily have us and our robots detained.

You know how the government is, I'm sure.

My brother and I are living in a special apartment for us pilots that's monitored 24/7. I'm pretty sure they follow us around in secret sometimes, too.

You pilot a huge robot how the hell can they detain you?

[He has no idea how that can work. Seriously what the hell.]

Shouldn't they have offered help because they're huge robots and they can't exactly control them or you?

They're using me to control it. So whenever they need it, they'll throw me and it into the thick of things together.

What am I supposed to do? Not comply and rebel against them until my mysterious robot that I barely know how to pilot is obliterated by the U.S Armed forces and I and my family are treated as terrorists? So yes, they can detain me. It's a mysterious machine that suddenly turned up on U.S soil. There's no way they weren't going to take it into their own custody whether I liked it or not.

They already could have put a bullet in my brain if they wanted to. After all, having the ability to pilot that thing makes me a sizable threat if I were to decide upon such a thing, don't you think?

Still think if you're a U.S. citizen they can't force you to do shit. Even if you managed to somehow bring a weapon of mass destruction onto US soil I'm pretty sure you guys weren't threatening them.

Shouldn't they pleased as punch that you were even on their side? [This one doesn't trust the government in any sense of the word, and the idea of being used by them? Not a good one for him.]

I envy your faith in the morals of our government. Really, I do.

I think me being on their side was the absolute bare minimum they expected from me.

Faith? I don't trust them at all but there were cameras everywhere. They couldn't have shot you in front of everyone, at least not without someone seeing.

[Groaning he rubs his neck.] So they have control of all the robots? Suddenly we're king in weapons again.

Not control, but custody. The machines are all more or less inoperable without us and the knowledge we get from our other memories in order to use them. They can't just use them willy-nilly without utilizing us, and I'm not so sure deployed such mysterious technology piloted by people they don't understand, into combat for their own gain is necessarily something they're going to want to do.

It's gonna stay classified, at least until another giant alien shows up. So as long as that doesn't happen again, I get a semi-normal life and the robot stays in the hangar.

I don't like the idea of them having them in the first place, even if they can't necessarily control them. But at least they can't easily operate them, right? Oh- I'm Deren, by the way. Sorry for getting heated.

Rei. It's fine, Deren. An intellectual conversation is far more appealing to me than simply "shooting the breeze" as they would say.

I don't like that they have them either, but it was our only choice. The thing is taller than most skyscrapers. There was no way we could put it anywhere without the government getting involved.

Where do they have them? I doubt they have them under a tarp somewhere right?

Top secret government facility. They have their own hangar.

Nobody who doesn't have clearance is going to see them.

I'm not even sure how this works. The flight suit just appeared on me when I ran into a toothpick monster.

Those occurrences happen by way of either interacting with something "supernatural" or by mirroring something that happened in your "other life". You'll either get a memory, a possession of theirs, or a physical feature.

[Rei pulls up her right eyelid, giving him a good, if not strange, look at her red eyes.]

I wasn't born with these.

[Blinking, Deren leans a lot closer to get a good look.oh. that is definitely red.]

How did you explain that to your family?

Avoided eye contact with my Mom for a while. She's never home anyway, so it wasn't too hard. Eventually she caught on and I bullshitted her into thinking it was a medical issue. Went to the eye doctor. Was told nothing was wrong, she wanted to have me checked out some more but because nothing was wrong, we decided to wait.

The wait was long enough for the snake attack, at which point my identity as one of us was revealed. Being a pilot, I was taken in by the government and thus didn't have the luxury of getting to pretend I'm still normal.

That sucks.

[His parents would have flipped if they found out about all this right now. They still will flip if he ever does manage to get that robot back he was inside in those memories.]

You said you had a brother? Is he one of us too?

His name is Shinji my twin brother. Yes, he's one of us. He's a pilot like me, as well. It's all very convenient for the both of us.
