I'll spread my wings [Action/Video]
[The week was drawing to a close and Rakka wasn't feeling very good about it. There was some sort of strange light in the sky above Vegas, whatever it was apparently matched the light that appeared over Locke city. She hadn't seen anything stranger than normal in the city, and her illness had even disappeared in the last few days. Maybe it would even go away finally and she wouldn't have to worry about some sort of weird, angel flu anymore.
Today had even seen Rakka going outside, taking a short walk around the city and doing some odd errands. A soft breeze blew past her as she made her way down a sidewalk towards home. As always she kept her hat on and her hoodie drawn up over it. There was no way she was ready to show her halo just yet. Maybe later, but not now.
She continued walking before something made the student stop and look down. Laying on the sidewalk a few feet in front of her was a ring of keys. Did someone drop them? She couldn't just leave them here, could she? Slowly, after looking to see if anyone was around, she reached down and picked them up.
And promptly collapsed to the ground as she felt a wave of nausea rolled over her. All at once she felt her body temperature spike to high levels. The pain in her back even came back with full force, along with some sort of... pulling feeling that left her unable to get up again.
Oh god, was she dying? This illness was really killing her? Panic quickly set in and Rakka dove for her phone as fast as she could. When the video finally comes on it'll show the girl's pale face on the ground, sweat forming on it as she weakly tries to speak.]
....H-help... Someone please help me...

....H-help... Someone please help me...

Okay, thanks....
...I don't know what's happening....

[It doesn't take long for the call to be answered and she quickly gives the run down on the situation and where they were.]
... Yeah. Yeah, she's still awake but she's got a crazy high fever and something about her shoulder hurting. ... I dunno, she just collapsed out here. ... Just get out here already and quit asking questions!
[And with that, she hangs up the phone with a sound of irritation and lets it drop beside her. Her expression is quite a bit softer when she turns back to Rakka and starts shrugging off her jacket.]
They're on their way, so just hang in there, okay? You're gonna be alright.
[She folds up her jacket and puts it on the ground by her head.]
Here, this has gotta be better than the sidewalk.
no subject
[A minor detail, but important in the grand scheme of things. She could feel something happening in her shoulders, like a strange pulling.
Rakka attempted to rise again, managing to get to her hands and knees before she had to give up, her head plopping onto the jacket.]
...Thanks. I should have gone and had this checked sooner but... I don't know what's going to happen.
no subject
She winces when Rakka tries to get up only to fall again, but at least the jacket was there for her head to land on instead of the cement.]
Yeah, you could have at least given the rest of us a heads up. [It's an admonishment, yes, but as gentle one as she can manage. She glances up, frowning a bit, then looks back at her.] Hey, think you can get up if I help you? We can at least try to get you on the grass or something.
no subject
[She hadn't even thought it to be that serious until now. And now here she was, lying on the sidewalk looking like death had run her over.]
Hmm? [She thought Raye's idea over and nodded weakly. Trying one more, she lifted herself off the ground.] Yeah, I think I can do that.
no subject
[She manages to not make that sound as harsh as it could have been, or at least she hopes. When Rakka tries to get up again, she takes one of her arms and puts it over her own shoulders to take on as much of her weight as she can. At the very least, she wouldn't faceplant if this didn't work out.]
Okay, let's try this.
no subject
It takes some effort, but she slowly gets to her feet with Raye's help and begins to move towards the grass.]
no subject
She sits next to her as well, sticking close and letting her lean on her if she needs to.]
Okay, now we just gotta take it easy and wait. Help'll be here any minute and then everything'll be fine.
no subject
When they sit Rakka down, she lets out a hiss as a jolt of pain goes up her back. Whatever was happening really didn't want to let up now. She sighed and nodded.]
I hope so. This doesn't really feel like it's fine.
[But she'll wait it out of course. And in a minute or so, the sound of a whirling siren signals the arrival of an ambulance. Two people step out and rush over to the girls. They'll probably have some questions.]
no subject
Hey! [She raises her arm, waving down the vehicle.] Over here!
[And after confirming that she's the one who made the call, she's quickly ushered aside as the paramaedics turn their attention to Rakka to ask their questions. She grumbles a little bit at that, true, but she's still sticking close by.]
[And you'd better believe she's going along for the ride.]
no subject
Regardless, she somehow manages to give them what they need to know and the paramedics waste no time in helping her into the back of the ambulance. If Raye is coming along, now is probably the time to jump in.]
Go ahead and skip the scene ahead a bit if you want to jump past all the waiting
There's a little argument since riding along in the ambulance isn't usually something friends get to do, but a quick glare and an insistent "I'm going" is all it takes to end that dispute for now. She said she was going to stick with Rakka through this and she's going to make good on that.]
Skipping ahead!
After not too long they finally reached the hospital and Rakka was carried out on a stretcher. She was quickly rushed inside to a care ward and a doctor was upon her with even more questions. Those questions only grew in capacity as they asked her to remove her hat and she begrudgingly complied, her halo floating out to their astonishment.]

[So, now she's outside, arms crossed in a huff and her knee bouncing anxiously as she keeps an ear out for any changes in her friend's condition.]

The discussion finally moves on to her back and the doctor asks to inspect it. Slowly, she does so, trying to avoid making it as painful as possible.
She eventually found out later, but there were two, dark bumps high on her back, above the shoulder blades. Each one about the size of her hand. Two, swollen lumps that sent pain through her body whenever she moved.
And it was just then that they started to move, something piercing the skin from underneath. Rakka cried out as she felt the pain getting worse. She was only now beginning to suspect what was really happening.]
no subject
[It's about then that Rakka might hear her as well, bellowing at the door to the room as a security guard tries to keep the disorderly girl at bay.]
Hey! The hell's going on in there? Get outta my way!
no subject
Rakka's shirt was quickly removed, luckily she was wearing a bra and that didn't seem to cause any trouble. There was talk about possibly sedating her so a full inspection of the spots could be done. Nothing like this had been seen before by anyone there. Not like there would be any time for an inspection anyways.
It happened over the span of minutes, although Rakka swore it was hours. First, Rakka felt as her skin was pierced from the inside, like something, two somethings were trying to get out. Rakka continued to cry in pain as she felt her skin get torn open, unable to really comprehend what was happening anymore as her fever intensified.
Finally it all came to a head as the wings, yes they were wings, slid out of the torn openings and unfurled to their fullest, spraying blood and grease over anything close. Rakka let out one last scream as more pain than she'd ever felt went though her body before slumping over on the care table, the combined pain and fever finally sending her into unconsciousness. The doctor and medical staff were left in shock, staring at the girl lying on the table with two, twitching, blood covered wings sticking out of her back.]

[She glances over to the shifting spots on her back, watching the skin split and bleed before turning her head up to the dumbstruck staff in the room, all her concern and worry shifting into anger that's sent right there way.]
Hey! What're you just standing around for, huh? Fucking do something!
[There isn't time to do much of anything though, before Rakka's final shriek of pain and the sound of tearing. She turns just in time to get caught in the spray as the wings emerge, letting out her own cry as she's close enough to be showered in blood and gore. For the moment, she's stuck staring at the wings like everyone else. Holy shit.
It takes a moment for her to snap out of the shock and she leans over her friend, wiping some of the blood from her face and checking her fever again.]

The doctor and staff meanwhile are scrambling around for things. Mostly cleaning supplies for everything and medicine for the pain Rakka was sure to be in. One of them talks about maybe getting an ornithologist to help. They may or may not be joking.
Long story short, they seem to finally be taking the initiative.]

Nobody asks Raye whether or not she's part of the collection of extraordinary people who had been appearing in the city over the last month, but she gets a few looks of her own and all of a sudden she's no longer "just" a friend of the patient. It's enough that, when Rakka is moved out of the ER to recover, she's allowed to pull up a chair and wait. Which she does, especially when the hours tick by and it becomes clear that nobody else is coming to be at Rakka's side when she wakes up.]
[So, she'll be there whenever that happens. Sitting in a chair, arms folded and staring out the window.]
no subject
So sometime during the interim that Rakka spent in the ER before being moved out, she'd been changed into a hospital gown to give the wings more space. She'd also been hooked up to all the usual machines, so for a while, the only sound Raye was going to get was the monotonous beeping of life support equipment.
But then she finally did wake up. It was late into the night, around midnight to be exact when her bleary eyes slowly opened and blindly looked around her. Given the new addition of her wings, the girl had to be laid on her sides now, but luckily she was facing wherever Raye was, leaving the disoriented Rakka something to try and focus on.]
...R-raye? [She tried to call her friend but her voice was hoarse and dry, all of the screaming having worn out her throat.]
no subject
She hasn't been there quite the whole time, she had needed to leave to make at least a few phone calls to check in. As far as her family was concerned, she had been there when a friend collapsed and was now waiting up with her at the hospital. Which was... essentially the truth minus a couple details.]
[And she's dozing off when Rakka comes to, snoring a little with her head leaning on her hand. Rakka's hoarse voice goes unnoticed for a second there until Raye's head slips off her hand and she sits bolt upright with a grunt and a snort.]
Nnrmph--! I'm awake. [She blinks blearily a few times herself and looks around before she notices Rakka's eyes open again.] Oh, hey. Finally back with us, huh?
no subject
What... happened?
no subject
[She reaches over, picking up a bottle of water and unscrewing the cap before adding a straw to it for her. She figured she had to be thirsty after all this time. She's quiet for a second, offering the water for her to drink, before answering.]
Um... well, you grew wings.
no subject
...Thanks. Really, thanks.
W-wings? Really? That's what it was?
