So we all need a break and some fun right? Anthony and I are going to try to eat an entire cake, and there's a really nice bakery cafe thing on Pine so everyone is also invited to try. I, personally, will take any bets from someone who can finish an entire cake. Any takers?

Also I will be drinking hot sauce and coffee since somebody won't leave me alone about it :|;;;; Who wants to miss that? No one wants to miss that. I'm sure I'll laugh about it in thirty years.

By all appearances, those poor people have enough to worry about.

I'm a terrible nephew, really. Doing their chores, running their errands. Babysitting the neighbor's kid, bringing home upstanding kids they like. All while maintaining good grades and extracurricular activities.

I don't know how they put up with me.

Not to mention the incredible modesty of their precocious progeny.

That particular honor goes to my parents.

I do. I'm staying with them for a semester until I graduate. My parents live in New York.

You'd be surprised at how quickly compulsive liars trip up over their own stories. Think of it as a test you passed.

That only means something if you don't lie. If you do... well. You see the problem.

And I happen to know that you do lie, or at least present misinformation under the guise of jokes.

It's not compulsive lying if I only lie when I want to, you know. I didn't say I wasn't a liar--just not a compulsive one.

I've heard alcoholics say they only drink when they want to, as well. This is all subjective and nearly impossible to prove, so I imagine anything you write on this card won't be particularly useful unless you've given someone else the same lies.

Is your name even really "Matt?"

Everyone in New York calls me Matthias. Matt just stuck when I got here.

Is that why your parents sent you here? Because you lie?

They sent me here because my dad lost his job. [Matt says it like he's discussing the weather.] So I picked up a job and dropped yearbook, fencing and theatre. They didn't like it when they found out and now I'm here.

They didn't like that you had a job, or that you dropped your extracurricular activities?

They wanted me to focus on getting into college.

Is that what you're doing now? Focusing on getting into college? You seem like a serious enough student.

Right now I'm focusing on staying alive long enough to get to college.

The same way we all are? Or is something threatening you specifically that others don't have to worry about?

Does there really need to be more to worry about?

I know a boy who's turning into a bird, and another who's basically a shambling corpse. Some people definitely have it worse than others, and I'm just trying to gauge where you stand.

Nothing like that, thankfully.

So it's reasonable to assume that relatively speaking, you aren't in that much danger.
