town meeting, alien breaking hoa rules

Where: Elian Price’s house – specifically, the basement
What: The Numbers discuss how to go about addressing the alien in the farmhouse. Nothing could go wrong, certainly?

"NOBODY!"

Proud hasn't been hearing anyone, or seeing anything, his tone climbs and so does the speed, the intentness, and the wild-eyed-ness of the scanning. "What did you do? Anyone?!"

He's fixing on very specific parties one by one as he guesses at them - flings a dagger with a look at Xander, pins Marisa, takes a scoot toward Sophie with a quick teeth-showing opening of his mouth as if to make a demand quickly shut up with a rapid shake of his head -

All the while, a buzzing is picking up around the basement. Very fast.

Taking a scoot towards her with what intent, man? Sophie turns his way, looking wary, and...wow, that buzzing is not good at all. "Is "Anyone" another one of you guys, or do you think we actually wanted this to happen?" Snark is always a good fall-back.

"Why do you think any of us did anything? We're all in the same amount of trouble here!"

He's giving Proud a rather skeptical look, his eyes narrowing.

"What do any of us have to gain bringing them here!?"

Fucking buzzing, that's just making him more irritated.

"I'm not asking if you meant to do it, I'm asking what you did. Their order's to protect me and they're not just happening to wander here."

A bit of that notion is transmitting into the heads of the assembled - a thought that if you'll fight, you will die...

"Shouldn't you go with Danny?" Octavia trots back towards the main group, Alan and Walter now in tow. "Like. I know they're not going to intentionally hurt you. But collateral accidental damage! And stuff."

"Nobody's going anywhere."

He hasn't quite noticed the preparation over by Danny and his phase-out group to do just that.

Danny stops dead in his tracks.

"Uh--what?"

"Dude if you're not gonna warp us to candy land or whatever it was you were planning, I am walking out before this clown gets us all killed."

Sophie has to pipe up here. "Uh, why? Do you think they're coming over here for tea and crumpets? 'Cause that seems pretty unlikely to me." Like, she supposes it's an outside possibility in CRAZY PERSON LAND, but come on.

Tavia thinks she understands what's wrong. "Mister Proud? You know nobody actually wants to hurt you, right? Like, you know that's not a thing."

Presumably.

"Well I mean. Maybe somebody wanted to slap you or something because they're jerks and your snakes got all oversensitive about it? But nobody wants to like kill you or whatever so if that's what you're worried about it is cool and everybody should be clear to leave. And stuff!"

Lily's eyes narrow, lifts her hand off Danny's shoulder, and spins around.

"And just what DO we do, then? Sit around here like a bunch of fish in a barrel?"

"We're getting people to safety, what's the problem with that?"

In the midst of PANIC PANIC PANIC, the Dians freeze to stare at Proud.

"...That sounds detrimental."

"To, you know. People... living."

"Don't be ridiculous," Michelle says flatly.

They're too powerful. Fighting would be futile- as far as Michelle knows, that thought's her own. She hasn't been around the statues before to recognize their influence.

Mac gets a chill down his spine, but he grits his teeth and steels his nerves. There's other people to protect besides himself.

"I don't think anyone here's threatened your safety. So I'm not sure why they'd be charging here if they're supposed to protect you. It doesn't add up."

"Echo shit," Roxy theorizes. "Maybe they're attracted to us like the police dogs."

"Or they could be responding to something that hasn't happened yet, like they know something or someone else is about to attack..."

Please, no one take the bait that would be stupid.

With the sudden commotion of preparation for the statues, David's demand and look caused Xander to stop from adding to Danny's assistance. Instead, he turned his attention to David and moves over to the other man.

"We didn't do any thing." He states with venom, agitation clear on his face when he hears that awfully familiar buzzing sound. "You said they were suppose to protect you, right?! Is this why they're here now?!"

It was taking a considerable amount of restrain from acting against David Proud.

Venom stated with venom spat. "Should be," is his response with an absolute glower - a challenging or pinning one.

Somehow, the thought of throttling David Proud was becoming more and more appealing as time passed. But as much as he wanted to give in to those dark temptations, he resists. They didn't need to fight among each other when a greater threat was on the way.

He exhales through gritted teeth, almost growling while keeping his focus on David. His frame is tense, almost ready for a fight as one fist clenches tightly. He was not going to raise to Proud's bait.

"Look." Kari stepped in. "We didn't do this. You direct them to protect you, and when something goes wrong, you blame us. I know fighting these things is hopeless, but we can't do nothing either. You may have been an enemy, but you're also one of us, and you're not going to try and sow discord here. Either we run or we fight back. We're not just going to die.

So explain."

His explanation is in four words, "I didn't do anything."

And - with the right timing for hard, explosive punctuation - there's a rumbling, churning crunch.

In the next moment, Lily is fumbling for her phone, sending out a text to Annie, Winter, Jasmine, and Russel. Not much time for focusing on it, but it reads:

'at meeting
snakes coming'

And then she spins around, primarily to Danny.

"I don't care what he says, we need to leave!"

"Okay, well, neither did we? So let us get the non-combatants out. Including you, unless you think you can do something to stop them coming at us. This isn't really the time for rampant paranoia and accusations, dude." Seriously. LISTEN TO THAT RUMBLING, CHURNING CRUNCH.

"This isn't the time for blame!"

With that crunch, Mac has sprung into full on action mode. He sees Danny take the people out to safety as he moves towards the door, hammer held steady.

"Alright, everyone. Time to rumble."
