What: Log for Children Are Dumb, The Plot. A few NPC children have gone to search for Karate Bugman in the underground. Cue a numbered rescue mission, since the unnumbered authorities are unfit...
Where: The underground & the outskirts of the dead district.

"Good. I gotta ask - pulse-gun, or did you get it more normally?"

"Pulse. Not really sure why, but it just showed up in my drawer one day."

It was... exciting, to say the least.

"Sometimes they're like that," he said, wrinkling his nose in sympathy. Well, Akito seemed pretty mature for his age, Julien wasn't going to bring that aspect up. "How good are you with it?"

"Pretty good. I gave it a try and remembered some marksmanship. My aim's not too bad, either."

Which is... kind of strange, actually, since he doesn't have any memories of actually using it. Only that he knows how.

He has to smile. "That's always convenient. Back in June there was someone who got a gun suddenly but not how to use it, though he tried."

"I hid it for a while before I tried it out, to be honest. Guns aren't really my kind of thing."

FPS games, sure, but owning a real gun wasn't exactly something he'd ever been interested in.

Julien shakes his head, voice dry. "I'll say this for the Numbers Club, it sure does broaden your horizons."

"Sure does. Speaking of, did you always have an interest in birds, or did that just come with the pulses?"

"Ah, well - it wasn't a pulse. Not directly. But that disease I pulsed back in September was killing them." He surveys the sky. There are some birds about, not all pigeons, at some distance. Julien is standing around but he's also with a group of people and his hair isn't covered, so he hasn't been approached, even in passing. "So I took an interest. I never thought about them before."

"So... kind of not really." Interesting...

"I gotta admit though, I'm kind of curious about that other me. He's got healing powers, but he also knew how to use a gun..."

It just seems like a conflict of interests.

"Or not directly, yeah. I didn't get a pulse for going 'Yeah I'm going to spend a lot more time around birds' or anything."

He rubs his scalp through the hat again. Julien hates wearing things on his head, it always gets so itchy, but his hair is so recognizable. "Protecting the people he wants to heal? The other me... the first time I had a memory of him someone wanted him to use his 'divine healing', and he knows his way around a clinic. He's got this goal of protecting humans and generally saving people, but he's also really comfortable with guns and isn't worried when he's hurt."

"...Maybe? Apparently, other me ran into a monster once when he was with some kids." Really, really young kids, even.

"...Or at least, kind of a monster." Thinking about it actually gives him something of a chill.

For the first time in some time Julien thought back to the creature that had called itself The King, and suppressed a shudder. "Yeah. So maybe he was comfortable with guns for the same reason all you guys going in, there, are carrying weapons. Or the same reason you arm medics in the military."

"...I'm not sure that monster was even supposed to be a threat, really."

He puts a hand to his mouth in thought. He only remembers catches of what happened then, but...

"...The monster was asleep and caged up. They had it under some kind of sleeping spell because it was too powerful. But sometime after that, we were running."

And more than anything else...

"For some reason, I think other me brought those kids there to see it." The way he'd spoken had certainly indicated as much. "But it's weird - they were really young. One of them couldn't have been older than twelve, and the other was even younger than that."

And considering what that monster was in actuality... Just what had the other him been doing?

Julien shakes his head. "Monster tourism...? Maybe it'll make sense later. Maybe not. These people - have their own lives, and I'm sure they get just as complicated as ours do. We're not really blessed with much context for any of it, though."

"Monster tourism or..."

He cuts himself off, raising a hand to adjust his sunglasses. "Well, whatever. Who even knows, right?"

Though part of him still hopes that, regardless of that story, other him hadn't been that stupid.

"Anyway, got any idea when we'll be ready to go?"

"Hah. Yeah." Julien took a swig of his coffee. "I'm not the boss, that'd be Blaine. I'm not sure if she's waiting for a set time or enough people to get here... still, if you want to get in now, you can."

"Might as well. Has anyone else called shotgun yet?"

"Nope!" Blaine might want to take that seat, but - well, Julien knows the way and is aware that if she really wants it, she won't be shy in saying so. "I'll be driving. And don't worry, I'll shut off the music or pick something else."

The Tinymon theme's catchy and easily recognizable, but looped over and over that's kind of a bad thing.

The tune was nostalgic, but even that had its limits. Especially when listening to it again only reminds you how obnoxious it could be.

Of course, the volume and the looping didn't really help in that regard, either.

"I'm probably going to have it stuck in my head the entire time anyway, but at least it won't be playing anymore."

"I'll just have to switch it to some new earworm. Watch out." Julien gives his best malicious grin, which... is not particularly malicious.

And Akito just gives a bright, if downright freezing smile in response.

"Don't even think about it."

Julien just tosses his head a little. If his hair hadn't been concealed this would have gotten some out of his eyes. As it is it just looks conceited. "You know it's the best way to get rid of one annoying song, right?"

"I'm not trading one annoying song for another. One obnoxious childhood song is enough for today."

If Julien decides to put on the NetMon song, he might just put a bullet through the damn radio.

"What about an obnoxious adulthood song?" Not that he saw Akito as entirely adult. Whatever. "I know I get Counting Stars stuck in my head all the time. It's better than this!"
