Elian actually gets a letter, sealed and written in a cipher that he and Chris made up together when she was in high school. Classy.
Each thing contains very clear, precise instructions on how to access a darknet set up by Chris. For those going crosseyed reading the wikipedia article: a Darknet is a private peer-to-peer network that is EXTREMELY hard for outsiders to crack into. The only real way of getting in is if someone gives you the keys to it. Most people can't even "see" that it's there. The instructions include exactly which software to download, Chris' private keys, and how to make posts. Apparently, you can make global posts, posts keyed to small groups of members, or private posts between members.
If your characters manage to get through the instructions and actually log in, you get the following message]
Hello.
If you're seeing this message, it's because I trust you personally on some level. Given recent events on the network, it's become explicitly clear that we cannot even trust each other. Some idiots think it's funny to pose as police officers... and others may well be feeding information to the Enemy, because they think appeasement is a tactic that works for some reason. And others still are idiot teenagers.
This is a Darknet, as I explained in my message--a private network only we can see. I've created it as an alternative to the Numbers Club network. This isn't meant to completely supercede that network or be a secret cabal of Network leaders or something, but it IS meant to be accessible only to those on the network whom we feel we can trust explicitly and completely. People we've worked with before who we KNOW are on our side.
Here's a list of people who can currently access this:
[same list as above]
I've given you all instructions on how to invite new people into the Darknet. I'd prefer to discuss each new addition before bringing people in to make sure we're all in agreement.
It may also be a good idea to create a list of network numbers / people we know we can't trust, for various reasons (examples: Karson Valenti and Octavia Whasserface. They're on our side, but they're unpredictable stupid teenage idiots) (Is octavia a teenager? I don't know, but she acts like one)
Thanks
