DARKNET POST; series of private texts; complicated, see below

[The following characters receive a communication from Chris via various channels: email, private network posts directed ONLY at them, or other private channels.

shiro [personal profile] hollowleg
mordin [personal profile] testsonseashells
vanessa [personal profile] doomedtheworld
shou [personal profile] ursoreckless
lyall [personal profile] professorwolf
emmanuel [personal profile] caosgo
aaron [personal profile] elfstoned
kotestu [personal profile] earnedmystripes
elian [personal profile] wastingtime
ratchet [personal profile] neonnerd

Elian actually gets a letter, sealed and written in a cipher that he and Chris made up together when she was in high school. Classy.

Each thing contains very clear, precise instructions on how to access a darknet set up by Chris. For those going crosseyed reading the wikipedia article: a Darknet is a private peer-to-peer network that is EXTREMELY hard for outsiders to crack into. The only real way of getting in is if someone gives you the keys to it. Most people can't even "see" that it's there. The instructions include exactly which software to download, Chris' private keys, and how to make posts. Apparently, you can make global posts, posts keyed to small groups of members, or private posts between members.

If your characters manage to get through the instructions and actually log in, you get the following message]

Hello.

If you're seeing this message, it's because I trust you personally on some level. Given recent events on the network, it's become explicitly clear that we cannot even trust each other. Some idiots think it's funny to pose as police officers... and others may well be feeding information to the Enemy, because they think appeasement is a tactic that works for some reason. And others still are idiot teenagers.

This is a Darknet, as I explained in my message--a private network only we can see. I've created it as an alternative to the Numbers Club network. This isn't meant to completely supercede that network or be a secret cabal of Network leaders or something, but it IS meant to be accessible only to those on the network whom we feel we can trust explicitly and completely. People we've worked with before who we KNOW are on our side.

Here's a list of people who can currently access this:

[same list as above]

I've given you all instructions on how to invite new people into the Darknet. I'd prefer to discuss each new addition before bringing people in to make sure we're all in agreement.

It may also be a good idea to create a list of network numbers / people we know we can't trust, for various reasons (examples: Karson Valenti and Octavia Whasserface. They're on our side, but they're unpredictable stupid teenage idiots) (Is octavia a teenager? I don't know, but she acts like one)

Thanks

- Starscream

man this is so cool. i feel all secret and spy-y and shit. though you've got a good point, there's plenty of people that can't be implicitly trusted. and here's a list

alan hunter; i love this kid but he is kind of a nutcase and fits into that "stupid teenager" category
ray zimmerman; another person i like but he DID offer to snitch
bakura; see dumb teenagers

uh thats all i can think of for now

in terms of people to add;

mamoru nakamura and maybe toshirou. he's a teenager but he's also pretty much the most mature person to ever exist ever, its kind of funny. maybe ryan? but i have a feeling he wouldn't be able to keep his mouth closed.

so we're sort of like a private section of this club? that's good. i'm trying not to smack some of these idiot kids that keep on going weird over the network.

i want to add Hajime to the network. sure, he's got some control issues with the big bugman, but he has proven a good guy. i can't think of any other people though

most seem okay but then pull something stupid like get caught and turn snitch idek

most people would point out that a party rich boy is not the most secretive person to have on a team... but we all know that it's an act

anyways, i've got an account i've been setting up for special funds. i'm gonna need some computer help with some of the coding and hiding bit of it. it's all legit money off of interest and the taxmen will see that it's for charities but i wanna make sure if i fall out of the club, you guys still have a way to access it because something tells me that we'll need fundage sooner or later.

Thanks for the invite. Since I'm seeing this, I guess I got things working.

Not really sure what I have to offer this group except for muscle when the occasion calls for it. I've gotten pretty good at that.

i guess it's to keep things moving smoothly without having a huge 'u r louserz' from the kids or something.

which you know is something that we get a lot from a lot of people. i'm thinking that we should get a core group of organizers going and this will probably help that along.

Makes sense. It'll be quieter, at least. Cuts down on the number of people I feel the need to scare with the bug.

True...I guess helping plan some secret war against the police and a mega corporation isn't too different from running a restaurant. It's all about logistics.

Useful tool. Glad you did it.

For untrsutworthy list: would advise we simply institute blanket ban on any under eighteen, and make exceptions if we need to. Risky enough to have minors involved in this at all. Definitely wouldn't trust them with something like this barring exceptional circumstances in their case.

I imagine it's important, if you're resorting to it!

...or you were just insanely bored.

Excellent idea, Chris.

I've only one name to suggest for this: Aaron Harding. He's the security officer I mentioned earlier, the one who's also from a similar world as the ones we're from. He's proven to be trustworthy.
