What's it about?

Two brothers try to save the home they grew up in before the government shuts them down.

I tried listening to my cousin's rap music once but it just confused me. Country's no good either.

Rap's has more in common with street poetry than it does with music. Without the instruments, all it is is like a rhythm game full of threats and sex and drugs. Country is a bit more relaxed than bluegrass, but holds the same kind of roots.

Well, in their pure forms. A lot of music is starting to blend into each other these days.

Yeah--my aunt says that country and all that is just the music version of English. Taken overseas by immigrants from Ireland and all that and then butchered.

The older set's really proud of being Irish.

Not really butchered. You have a bunch of different instruments from different places all over the world and they merged the sounds. Some of the instruments were too expensive for a common farmer in those days, so they got something cheaper to use, which created a sound they liked.

Music should evolve, not because someone is making money, but because someone said 'hey, this sounds neat let's try it'. I wish people understood that instead of rehash the same kind of sound all the time.

I know it's not butchered, but try telling my aunt that.

[He listens to Shou's explanation, nodding a bit]

The stuff on the radio does sound pretty much the same, yeah. Canned and kinda...dull.

The producers are just into making money and they get the artists to follow along. You won't hear much that's different unless you go seeking it.

The older stuff, indie stuff, stuff from other countries. Like did you know there is a heavy metal cello band?

Not really. They're a group of cello players that decided to play heavy metal songs on their cellos. They're pretty good. There's all sorts of music out there, and people are just too stubborn to look for it.

Sure, that'd be great. Anything's gotta be better than the stuff Mom listened to.
