There's still a small chance that seeing it will turn someone from a weak, useless person into someone who can fight the vermaxi. We'll need as many as we can get if they really are what's causing the tremors.

...Still. We know definitively that we can initiate echoes this way. Recording the gear in-use might still help. Even if it only identifies more people we once knew.

What if it triggers something really bad, though? Some people have already gotten echoes with nasty effects.

The vermaxi will show up eventually. People are going to see the gear in-use at some point. This way it's in the safety of their own homes instead of mid-battle. If it triggers anything negative, better it happen this way.
