[As usual with posts Alan makes from his sketchbook, his writing is surrounded by little doodles; this time there are quite a few depicting a furry creature you might recognise as a Vermedi, as well as what looks like a girl with fairy wings.]

ok so it looks like a few people got new stuff since we went into the mine. anyone got any idea why? I mean we didnt find anything there except some of those hairy things.

so anyway I got something too. and Ive got no idea what it is. its like some kind of leather harness? like idk kind of like horse reins but with 500 different straps. also theres a mechanism that I think is some kind of weird double grappling hook thing? also theres a bunch of giant box cutter blades.

its all got that familiar feel so I think it belonged to past me. but I seriously do not know what it is or where Im going to keep it so my mom doesnt see it.

Plus it could mean I'd have to worry about getting some really awkward memories.

Unless past-you died young, you could be looking at those, anyway. [ Ack, but then he remembers that Alan totally did remember dying-- uh, better change the subject, then. ]

I wonder if anyone's actually remembered anything like that... Not that they'd share it on the network. It'd be nice if we got some more mundane stuff like hanging out with friends or cooking past-you's favorite meals.

Hah, something mundane would be nice. I can't even imagine past me doing anything like that, but obviously he must have.

Yeah, even soldiers had time off. I'm sure there's a memory in there somewhere of past-you slacking off or doing something funny. You had to've acted like a kid at some point, right?

Right, exactly! You must've had friends, right? Which means you must've done fun things, too.

[ Ryan remembers being friends with Ellie!! So all friend memories must be great!! Right??? ]

...The things I remember doing with friends aren't that great. Or the kind of stuff kids should be doing.

[ Man, past-Alan was really messed up, wasn't he? Oh just you wait, Ryan. ]

[ After a pause... ]

Well, at least you've had plenty of good memories though. You're not him, you've got Octavia, and all of us supporting you, so even if your echoes stay pretty bad, you know we'll be here to help.
