02 | video - laptop webcam
[ the video is fixed on what seems to be a backyard, although it's rather -- unique. for one, there are a lot of feeders hanging from the trees, and plenty of squirrels and birds around eating at them. for another, there is a chicken coop, although its residents are happily wandering outside of it for the time being. there's also what appears to be a vegetable garden in the far corner.
when he begins to talk from behind his laptop, he speaks asfastasever -- perhaps even a little quicker than usual? -- and it might be difficult at times to make out certain words. ]
Well... I thought perhaps the water was making me hallucinate at first, but I don't think that's the case. I can understand them... the animals, I mean. I think they can understand me too, but it's hard to tell. The chickens are easiest to talk to, but I think that's because I've raised them here for so long. Squirrels make for more interesting conversational partners, though.
[ ... ]
Does anybody have a housepet that I could try talking to for a few moments?
I'd just like to confirm that this really isn't... a hallucination, or something.

[And now they won't let him in the marine park anymore, long story. He'll turn the camera to face a large fish tank containing two spoiled goldfish.]
Sure, go on, try talking to 'em! They're great conversationalists!
It feels like there's too much static...
[He looks curiously at the fish, like he's listening to something.]
I'm afraid they never heard you, chum.

Oh, it's the BEST preparation! We'll be unstoppable!
Ah, but only if they're okay with it first.

Right, I think so too. It'd be bad to take them for granted, after all.

[YES a kindred spirit...but now he's going to have to look into meat substitutes now that he knows other things talk, too.]
Yes... some people aren't very understanding of these things, I find. It's as if they think animals are beneath us...
I know! It's a darn shame! There's so much we can learn from animals!
