02 | video - laptop webcam
[ the video is fixed on what seems to be a backyard, although it's rather -- unique. for one, there are a lot of feeders hanging from the trees, and plenty of squirrels and birds around eating at them. for another, there is a chicken coop, although its residents are happily wandering outside of it for the time being. there's also what appears to be a vegetable garden in the far corner.
when he begins to talk from behind his laptop, he speaks asfastasever -- perhaps even a little quicker than usual? -- and it might be difficult at times to make out certain words. ]
Well... I thought perhaps the water was making me hallucinate at first, but I don't think that's the case. I can understand them... the animals, I mean. I think they can understand me too, but it's hard to tell. The chickens are easiest to talk to, but I think that's because I've raised them here for so long. Squirrels make for more interesting conversational partners, though.
[ ... ]
Does anybody have a housepet that I could try talking to for a few moments?
I'd just like to confirm that this really isn't... a hallucination, or something.

You know, of all the weird transformations and abilities I've seen throughout my stay...
[Time for her to lean forward a bit with an eyebrow raise.]
This seems pretty tame in comparison.

[GLEEEEEEEEE NEW BEST FRIEND]
Well...at least, I can only talk to sea life! Fish and things! And silverfish! Because a fish is a fish, even if it's a bug.
[Arthur is just so excited to have someone else who can speak to the animals here...]
I've got some goldfish here, if you want to try to talk to them!
[ fish, sadly, will prove to be difficult for him... for the time being, at least. ]
I'd like to try, if you don't mind.

[He doesn't seem convinced.]
I have two dogs.

Would you mind if I tried speaking to them, then?

The birds also mention places with good wind drafts and a lack of housecats pretty often.

Ultimately, their conversations tend to center more around survival than anything else.
