წ Second Sunrise || Open Log

Who: Shion/Xion and you!
What: WARKING. WARK WARK WARK. Also known as Shion doesn't have a social life lately. This needs to change badly.
When: Monday evening.
Where: Her part-time job at the ice cream shop!

It'd been a while since she'd touched her notebook. Of course-- some of it had had to do with her course work. And some of it with where she was at now. Summer jobs. Gotta love 'em. Or maybe not. But it was a good distraction. And okay for the most part. Save when the crazy kids made a mess of everything with their sticky fingers and their sugar rush antics. But there were perks to it, too. Like, you know. Free ice cream. And relatively happy customers. And was "good distraction" mentioned in that before? Ah, let's just list it again.

Only that was... really the thing that day. Because all that being said and done, it was only a good distraction if there were actually customers around. Which there.... weren't at the moment. Keeping busy in other ways could only go so far. Could only wipe down the counters, tables, and cases so many times before that got mundane and who knew when was the last time those windows got a good cleaning? Yeah... She wasn't about to touch those. But with some much time to kill yet...

She took a good look around back and forth to see if her co-worker was looking before starting to doodle onto the condensation of the case...

The greeting took him aback a little and he gave her a look of some surprise; from her words, she knew him, or thought she did, while he... didn't. Lots of enthusiasm tended to make him a little skittish. He stopped in the doorway, looking at her for a second, before replying. "Uhh... hi..."

Had she been in a class with him? He tended to be more outspoken in classes than just walking around town, so maybe she recognized him from that? She looked about the right age.

The final nail in the coffin for her supposition probably came when he started walking over - after a glance around of his own, and not without a small look of what the fuck on his face - and his walk wasn't exactly... straight. There was a definite limp there, his right leg canted out to the side a little and not able to properly move in its socket. It didn't seem to slow him down, but it was a definite clue that sports wouldn't be very easy for him.

But approach he did, more and more mystified as he walked. "Uhh... I... just want some ice cream..."

Yeah, just a bit. And not that he wasn't used to that - unfortunately he was - but it was still a touch... irritating. He couldn't help being handicapped, okay? He just wished people wouldn't stare so much. Oh well, at least she was trying not to.

He winced at the volume (louder than it should be to begin with, and he was right there), but once she leaned in and started whispering, he paid attention. People usually didn't whisper without a good reason, after all. "Uhm, yeah - he's my brother."

"I, uhh - I need a small... mint chocolate chip, and a large, uh, cookie dough- look, are you okay, you're acting kind of funny." Yes, he's starting to get concerned over you, Shion. Your fail secrecy is not exactly communicating itself in the way you want it to; mostly it's making you look kind of weird.

...That is, until he sees what she's tracing on the ice cream case. And then double-takes when the letters actually catch up to him. "Wait a minute, you're on that thing?"

No, he's making no effort to keep his voice down.

Hey, he didn't say anything. Just "that thing." "That thing" could be anything, from a college e-board to a game to... well, just about anything where you have to sign up for something. And given they're both in college? That's a lot of things that are possible. So if he looks a little annoyed at that? Yeah, it's not like he doesn't exactly have cause for it - but at the same time, he gets her caution. It's not like he's going to say anything more specific.

"Sorry - I need those to go." Probably should've mentioned that before she got started, but he was concerned with her well-being. But Ben does keep his voice down to a lower level as he responds. "You're the one who kept writing, not speaking."

Well he kind of needs to get home to have dinner before dessert... Sorry, Shion. At least it's not a complicated order.

But Ben keeps his voice down still, since now that the specifics are coming up, it's more likely that someone really will think they're off their rockers if they overhear it. And while this probably- okay, definitely isn't like anything he's ever heard before not too long ago, it's not like they're the only people it's happening to. "There's some nice people on it... but there's so many people on it. I mean... me and Ciel are both there, and so's one of my teachers, and you, and I think one of my classmates - but there's so many people I've never met or even heard of before." He pauses, then continues. "I'm more worried about why this is happening. Why us. Why now. Someone's already died..."

He nearly jumped at her volume, but he couldn't really blame her - but she hadn't heard about that? From what he assumed, it was relatively recent. He hadn't pursued it any farther than that, he only had the vaguest of ideas (namely that it happened and that was it), and really he didn't want to know more than that. That it happened was enough. Certainly more than enough to make him suspicious of the network itself, if not the people on it.

"I-I don't know much - just that a kid started remembering, then a few days later he was..."

Dead.

"I think people on the network know... I just haven't asked..." He hadn't wanted to ask, really. All of this was freaky enough as it was; he didn't need to add anything else to that pile right away.

But another question came from her, a more comfortable... or less uncomfortable question, at least. "Yeah... My brother and I, we both... remembered something that had never happened to us. But it was really clear, we both remembered it perfectly. And it wasn't the same thing for both of us."
