[open] Axes of the Dwarves! The Dwarves are upon you!

Who: OPEN!!! Anyone and everyone is welcome here, please drop in!
When: March 15th.
Where: The Thorsson backyard.
What: Sparring! Characters who have no weapons yet but want to try out something, or who want to try out new weapons, are welcome as well!
Warnings: Violence.

Imagine that there was a network post asking for people to come to a afternoon of sparring and training/trying to force echoes. There was a specific emphasis in the post for people to not bring powers or firearms into the mix, only all kinds of short range weapons - swords, axes, knives, maces, halberds, anything really. A part of the idea, as was explained, was not only to provide a place to try out different weapons but also to have multiple people use weapons in a small area, allowing for battle echoes.

So the day has come! The place is the backyard of the Thorsson's downtown store/private buildings, a relatively large areal closed off with buildings belonging to the family on all sides.

There are all kinds of weapons - real ones and some larp weapons as well - on a table in a corner of the backyard that cannot be used for sparring since swings, a sandbox and a bench are located there. Protective gear like chainmail and helmets can be found as well. Some refreshments in form of apples, juice boxes and bananas, all in open boxes, have been placed next to them along with water in bottles.

So those that brought no weapons can borrow those proffered, and those that brought their own ones can try out others as well.

There is another nod, and then Siiri turns away without an explanation to go and put down the puppy some way away from them, in a distance that seems safe.

She then returns and picks her sword back up, standing before Gabriel in silence and awaiting further instructions.

Rather than preparing himself, though, Gabriel holds his hand out, indicating the sword. "Is it yours, or have you borrowed it?" He asks, curiously. He doesn't know Thorir's stock well enough to be able to tell. It's a different kind to his, but he hopes that he can at least teach her the basics.

"Borrowed." She has no sword yet, nor anything else - maybe that will come with this sparring session instead of skills, who knows. She sees no reason why she couldn't pick up a different one, should he prefer that, but also doesn't want to suggest that in case it wasn't the reason for his question. It's easier to not say anything when in doubt.

"Well, in theory once you've learnt to use one then you should be able to reapply the principle - assuming that your own isn't a different shape. Length should be easy enough to adjust to." He steps closer, putting his hands over hers so he can guide her into a defensive hold, nudging her hands further apart on the hilt. "How heavy is it for you?"

"Light."

At least much lighter than it should be, but that seems to be a standard lately. She has gotten stronger.

He nods, but also frowns a little. She's stronger than she looks, then. "Something too light probably won't help you, but don't get something too long to over compensate. This will do for now. You should get something to practice holding if you want to learn properly; you need to be comfortable holding it in your hands to fight."

His voice is calm and confident as he steps away, despite the fact that he's not entirely sure himself. He has the ability to wield a sword from somewhere, but he's still not sure about teaching that to someone else. "Have you ever had any weapons training? Ever fought with a sword at all?"

"A rifle." But that won't be helpful at all with a sword. Hunting rifles are useful things, but... yeah.

She also takes a step back and tries to weigh the sword again holding it how she's been shown to do it. It feels... oddly foreign in her hands, yet not at all.
