Tuning Towers Underground Expedition

Who: Anybody who signed up on the OOC post!
Where: The streets around Tuning Towers, under the streets around Tuning Towers, and Barnaby's apartment.
When: Saturday night, 11/16, around 3AM.
What: The teams head into the sewers and subways, and eventually the Tuning Towers basements, in search of the source of the buzzing. See the OOC post linked above for more detailed info.

[[There is also a public network thread for radio chatter that anyone may participate in. Format is restricted to voice and it's happening at 3AM on a Saturday, but otherwise go wild.]]

[[Alright, here's how this is going to work. There will be separate threads for each group, along with a combined radio chatter thread that is network public. I have been informed that the mods will also put up a subthread for characters on the interference team to run afoul of the cops and get themselves arrested.

Friday night, Ravi made a network post to lay out the plan and the meeting time/place and get last minute volunteers, but I am handwaving this. If you want to say that's how your char found out and signed up, go for it.

This spreadsheet contains a list of specific teams. Most of the exploration squad assignments were decided by dice rolls. If you're unhappy with your squad, you are absolutely free to change it. I only ask that you try to keep the squads roughly even in size.

Characters will be instructed to bring flashlights (red if possible, because red light doesn't affect your night vision), gloves, nondescript/dark clothes, watertight footwear, and whatever else they think they might need. There will be dust masks provided (gas masks are too expensive, sorry y'all). Characters will also be encouraged to bring a small mirror and pre-write most of their network number on it, so that the last digit can be easily added if a live visual is needed. Medics should bring their own first aid supplies.

Aaron and Mordin's teams will be exploring the sewers, and Ravi's team will be exploring the subways. All 3 exploration teams will be converging when the decision is made to infiltrate the Tuning Towers basements. At that point, some coordination with the interference team will be necessary to get Ravi's team out of the subways and into the sewers.]]

[[Each team/squad will have at least 2 two-way radios, tuned to the holder's network number as its frequency. Other characters can connect by cell phone or handwave possession of their own radio or whatever. I'm not picky about this, everyone can participate.

This is basically a public network voice post and any voice communications are valid, even for characters who aren't present.

Just be ready for Ravi to butt in and chastise anybody wasting air-time.]]

[Looks like her previous life as a gang lady might come in handy! Regina once had to sprint her way past the cops, sometimes using herself as bait to distract them from apprehending her gang leader brother and his friends. This time, however, she's making sure they don't lay a single hand on the network crowd.

At least she's brought along her guns and knives just in case, plus a mean right hook and strong kicks. Right now, her amber eyes flicker around from one side to the next for any sign of cops. She looks, well... suspicious and on alert are putting it mildly. Shoulders and back nice and straight, she keeps a tight grip on her weapon just in case.]

[After checking in with mission control and going with the alias 'shadow', Xander was ready for the most part. Except, he wasn't used to being up this late in a long time, but he made arrangements to drink a fair bit of caffeinated beverages earlier on to keep him going. Hopefully it would be enough to carry him through this mission.

Even though their main orders were to be a distraction for the police and not get caught, he couldn't help but feel responsible for the other people on his team. He would remain physical for now, but once the chaos happens, he'll be sticking to the shadows and following officers, giving mission control a visual -- if it'll work that way.]

[After finally escaping the terrifying Miria's mother, if just for a while, the Dians were prepared to act in whatever way was necessary to help out their friends.

Well, you know, mostly. The less crime the better.

The Dians are dressed up in pure black. Black sweaters, black pants, black socks, black shoes, and a black ski pom hat each.

Because clearly that's what undercover secret distraction team members wear.

All in all, they feel pretty good about the situation.]

[Shou ended up wearing clothing just a little big for him, with a shapeless hat pulled down over his braids and most of his jewelry gone. he still had a few pieces, namely one that looked like a medical alert bracelet that he so happened to write most of his number on it using the edge of his nail.

But for now, he slouched along the sidewalk, humming to himself and jumping from the curb to the street at irregular intervals and giving the impression of someone without a care in the world.]

[ Derek wasn't exactly the most inconspicuous guy around. Sure, he was dressed in relatively dark clothing. And yes, his advanced hearing and the perks of natural night-vision were incredibly useful. That didn't really negate the fact that his eyes tended to glow when used.

So naturally he was wearing a pair of sunglasses for the time being. Worst case scenario he could cause a distraction by being painfully obvious and draw attention away from the others that way. ]

MISSION CONTROL

[[The mission control team will be set up at Barnaby's apartment. They'll have maps of the sewer and subway systems, and the building plans for Tuning Towers. Their job is to consolidate the information they're getting from all the other teams and turn it into a plan. Keep an eye on the radio chatter thread!]]

[Before the sun is totally gone, hours before things will start happening, Julien is there on Barnaby's doorstep, ringing the bell and settling back on his heels. A messenger bag thumps softly against his hip as he smooths soft dyed nothair out of his eyes.

This is for the best. Julien's night vision is basically nonexistent. Not only can he only be useful in this setting but he has to arrive early, or he'd have needed someone to get him. So, here he is! And here he'll have to be until it's light again.

Julien is a friendly sort. Better to focus on his host here than that nagging sense that he's being a coward.]

[Luci arrived not too much longer after Julien, having made a few stops beforehand. Seeing Ez off half-way, she picked up supplies for the night to keep them alert and active; basic sustenance, energy drinks if needed, and lots of paper. The two blonds had a plan at the very least, and that would be the first thing that would need to be addressed: making sure she had enough paper to create an active-time map.

Plastic bags in hand, backpack slung over one shoulder, she walked up to Barnaby's apartment, ringing the bell. If she was anxious, it was hard to tell. She seemed pleasant enough, despite a combination of excitement from earlier in the day and a mixture of nervousness and anxiety for the night ahead.]

[ Aria shows up promptly and cheerfully. While it's a serious mission, she's always been more prone to smiling than not, and she's clearly at ease with the whole map-navigation stuff.

She does kind of spend her free time doing stuff with maps. For treasure hunting purposes.

If there aren't enough chairs or places to sit at the apartment, Aria's liable to plopping down cross-legged on the floor. She's going to be fairly casual with the radio chatter, although she's clearly paying attention and giving advice on routes; she's just also not opposed to joking around with people or joining in the silly radio talk or codenames stuff. ]

[A certain amount of by now habitual hesitance has kept Anthony from going in early per se. He's better than right on time, and never mind the purpose of coming to this location - being at any unfamiliar one's giving him a clinging sense of unease. Especially as this is the first one in some time he's come to without his seax - coming into a supposedly allied stranger's house with a sword to serve as at-base support seemed like an at best improper thing to do.

All he does have is a notebook and an extra pen; he's not even got his phone, after resorting to using it in desperation for diversionary purposes on the day of the jailbreak. And with that, as the others come in and assume ways to keep themselves occupied before and as things get underway, he drifts off at the side to develop some idea of what he should get on himself, or for any opening in which he can lend a hand - not approaching too quickly in the latter case, natch.]

[Michelle signed up almost at the last minute, and a part of her still wonders if this was a good idea. She doesn't know these people; she feels a little bit in over her head. But... If there's no backing out of this "club" (and she'd really feel like kind of an asshole for doing so, after seeing the way everyone immediately organized to save a couple of their own), she'd rather participate than stand around doing nothing.

Besides, the possibility of finding out more about what's going on sparked her curiosity.

She arrives right on time, and knocks on the door with her elbow as her hands are occupied with a laptop and a bakery box.]

Right now, Audrey was going around offering drinks and snacks to those working or on breaks. She was taking a little one herself at this point.]

[When Barnaby's not answering the door, helping people get settled in, or showing people where to find things, he's at his desktop getting himself set up. Once everything gets underway he'll be sticking to his desk - and chair - for the most part, though he'll head over to help anyone who flags him down.]

[ If nothing else the twins knew how to make their presence known, and not necessarily in the best of ways. Upon arriving it was clear that they were in the middle of some sort discussion amongst themselves.

While it doesn't take too long for them to wrap up their banter, it's clear that there's some sort of tension between the two. They'll likely start up again if their opinions truly clash.

Until then their collective attention turns to debating how successful the current endeavour will be. ]

[Cain showed up as scheduled, and before long he's monitoring the thread on his laptop, tracking as best as he can. He's brought drinks and snacks! Which he offers up gladly. Take them, merci! Many a late-night coding job has taught him the need for fuel to keep up morale.

He's got an earpiece on and he's giving directions as needed, but he's open to talk.]

EXPLORATION

[[As outlined in the post. Ravi's team is checking out the subways, Aaron's and Mordin's will be in different parts of the sewers. I'll be leaving it up to team leaders to post their own subthreads. AS PREVIOUSLY STATED, report to mission control by way of the radio chatter thread.]]

Ravi's squad

[Ravi is dressed in all black, with his combat boots on, and carrying his combat lifesaver pack. An L-shaped military flashlight with a red filter is clipped to the front of one shoulder-strap, and his radio is clipped to the other. He's also got his (ILLEGAL!!!) gun on him(!!! srsly he really hopes he does not get caught), and a set of throwing knives. He is always crazy prepared for shit like this, so there's also a plethora of miscellaneous 'you never know' supplies in the bag.]

[He doesn't say much at the initial meet-up because he said it all on the network already. He will be taking his team into the subway tunnels, out of service for the night, and he's already nervous enough about that and the mission as a whole without having to add public speaking on top of it.]

Eventually Mordin's team

Ez arrived a bit early near the sewer entrance to meet his team. He had his cartography equipment a high-powered flashlight, fresh batteries, and a number of flares and other items. Since nobody had shown up yet he started prepping his map, adding coordinates and a basic outline of the area.

TUNING TOWERS BASEMENTS

[Aaron is on-edge. The buzzing is loud here, and it echoes off the walls around them -- and Aaron has hated closed-in spaces for years. Nothing good's ever happened to him underground, and that seems to go for his past life, too. He looks over his group, counting, making sure everyone is here -- then steps to the side for a moment and places his ear against the wall.

He can hear it in the walls now. He can hear it moving, whatever it is. Aaron wonders if this will end with the knowledge of what's down there spreading through the network. He wonders if that's a good thing.

Opening his eyes, Aaron speaks to everyone present.]

This is it. On the other side of this wall are Tuning Towers' basements. It's quiet, for now. I can't hear any footsteps. But that doesn't mean no one is there.
