one last rest
Who: Rakka and you! (And also Reki)
What: Rakka's last few days before the end begins. Fluffy moments are had and a secret is brought to light
Where: Around Locke City
When: Anytime from the 18th to 28th, before the invasion starts.
A; Network post on the 19th [Video/Open]
[The video, as it starts, is murky for some reason. The screen is dark, and clouded by strange... shapes floating in view. The general shape of Rakka's face could be seen, pretty close to the screen, but it was heavily obscured.]
Um, hello....? Is anyone...?
[Her voice could be heard at least. It was quite clear until it became mumbling, likely directed at herself.
Then, that ends. And then there's a sound like... sipping. Most of the murkiness dissipates, and soon Rakka, and her sheepish smile, could be seen much more clearly.]
I'm sorry, I wanted to try getting through to the network with a cup of coffee. So, anyway, I'm back in Locke city. [A little wave.] Hi! Uh, if anyone was wondering where I went, I was in Tokyo, trying to help with the giant Kappa that was rampaging everywhere.
...I also got to see my parents for the first time in a while.
[She lets that sit for a moment. Worry flashes across her face.] ...Anyway. I haven't been on the network for a while, so, how is everyone?
B; [Closed] to Raye and Reki on the 21st
[Reki didn't like coming into Locke city, no matter how easy it was to do so. The city was the hub of all the strangeness that plagued the world; the place where it all originated. The reincarnates, the aliens, the monsters that were awakening.
Her.
It pained Rakka-no, no. She wasn't Rakka, she was Reki. She couldn't be Rakka, she wasn't even a real human, just something made of magical feathers. Feathers, mind, that weren't even like her's. What a ripoff. Every time she dragged herself back to that castle, for reasons not even she fully understood, she was reminded of that. In a way, she was happy about it. The monster was so horrible at making clones that it basically made people that weren't their originals.
Still, the city gave her memories. Memories that possibly weren't real at all, but, they were real to her. She shook her head of these thoughts as she made her way down the street from the Boarding academy. She wasn't here to just reminisce. There was a good, damn reason for coming here. Quickly, Reki managed to locate her targeted destination, an apartment, home to the one person she would come all this way to talk to.
She was wary, admittedly nervous as she walked up the stairs and found herself before the front door. Hands clenched. There was no way to tell what would happen, so... just get it over with. She raised a hand, rapped her knuckles against the door, and waited.]
C; Around town [OPEN]
[After the havoc and tension of Tokyo, being back in Locke city was a small blessing, now that the chaos had died down to more tolerable levels. Rakka missed it, possibly more then her original home. She wouldn't put much thought in that though.
If you know Rakka, you'll know where to find her while she's taking in this bit of quiet time. Ever since the Dians were run out of town by their doubles, Rakka had found a new place to stay: in the apartment of Raye Satterfield. She would admit, it was a fixer-upper, but she liked it there. Being with Raye was what mattered most, and they could make due.
Sometimes, Rakka could be found taking walks. She would head over to the park to try and catch a glimpse of the Heart Tree floating overhead, and also flip through her phone while enjoying the quiet. Or, she would go to a small bookstore once owned by a Numbered and browse the titles, especially the fantasy ones.
No matter what, she could be instantly recognized from her appearance, and the fairy, Fougere, who followed her.]
D; Wild card! Do whatever with Rakka before the invasion starts!

She was on her own right now, keeping busy with whatever work needed to be done around the place while Rakka was out on one of her walks when she heard that knock at the door. Making her way over, she opened up and paused, blinking a little when she saw who was on the other side. That was... odd. It was pretty clear that Rakka effectively lived there, right? Oh, well, she smiled and laughed a bit, already moving aside.]
Hey, you came back pretty quick. You know you don't have to knock anymore, right? You can just come in.

Instead, Raye was met with a mildly confused expression. How lucky could she get, the other Rakka was out! And this Raye thought she was Rakka... It was a sort of cruel irony, in her opinion.
She could roll with that for now. ]
Uh, yeah. Thanks. I just thought it would be the polite thing to do.
[As Raye said, she let herself in, stepping past her into the interior of the apartment. She had never seen this place, not even in her memories.] Sorry for coming back so suddenly, I guess.
no subject
Still, there was a brief look of concern on her face as she watched Rakka step inside, shutting the door behind her.]
Hey, don't worry about it. I'm happy to have you around, remember?
[She said as she stepped forward, moving to wrap her arms around her.]
no subject
She perked up a bit at Raye's words, though, looking up at her.]
If you say so. I'm... glad to hear that.
[Really, she was. Rakka didn't deserve what she had to deal with. And, the more Reki had thought about it, she didn't either. What a shitty world she was brought into....
And then she found Raye's arms wrapping around her. Caught off-guard, Reki offered no resistance to it.]
no subject
Raye's eyes shifted downward to the girl's wings and drew in a quiet breath at the sight of them, eyes widening when she saw the black spots, spots she had seen before. And then she knew exactly what was wrong, and exactly who she had in her arms right now.
For a moment, she wasn't sure what to do. The last thing she'd ever expected Reki to do was come see her like this and after a moment, she pulls back, keeping her hands on Reki's arms.]
Wait a second. You're... Reki?
no subject
[There was no sense in trying to hide who she was, not that she really tried. Even if this Raye didn't recognize her at first, the black-spotted wings on her back were a dead give-away.
With the truth now out, it was more obvious now how uncomfortable Reki was in Raye's arms. She knew how strong the taller woman was, she could keep the Doppelganger rooted to the spot, if she wanted to. The fact that this Raye wasn't her Raye kept her from panicking.]
...It took you long enough to figure it out.
[She was quietly surprised by this Raye's perceptiveness though. She knew her new name.]
no subject
What? That's not my fault. I didn't think you were going to actually come here, to....
[It's about then that she notices how uncomfortable she looks, and figures out why. She's quick to release Reki from her hold then, taking a few steps back and lowering her arms to her sides.]
So... what did you come here for?
no subject
Thankfully Raye got the hint, and they stepped apart. Reki was thankful for that. She seemed more relaxed already, now that she wasn't in Raye's arms, a far cry from the Rakka Raye would have known.]
...I... I wanted to let you know... dammit...
[She faltered. Dammit, she had this. She had spent the entire walk over thinking about what she would say, and now she was blanking. It was just her luck.
Finally, Reki breathed in, and out, and looked up at Raye. All she had to say were a few, simple words...]
I wanted to thank you for... You know, killing my Raye.
no subject
The thought of ever doing anything to make Rakka afraid to be in her arms. It nearly made her sick to think about.]
Uh....
[She quieted down when Reki started searching for her words, just staying where she was and listening. Even if it was her doppelganger that had treated her like that, she felt like she at least owed her that much. To let her speak her mind. When she thanked her for that though, she glanced off to the side at the memory.]
Oh. Right. ... Don't mention it, she was bad news for everyone, so....
no subject
She still remembered being shocked when she found the corpse... or, what was left of it. She had cried, and screamed, and stomped on the remains. But it didn't satisfy her. Not after all that.
She couldn't even stay angry at this Raye. She did, but it would never last.]
So, that's why I came all the way here.
[Mission accomplished. More or less. There was nothing left for Reki here. She could just leave and hopefully never see that face for as long as she lived, however short her life could be. Still, Reki fidgeted a bit, letting out a sigh.]
The other... the real Rakka. She's happy here, right? With you?
no subject
She couldn't really say. At least... some part of that was in her too, wasn't it? Back when she was dealing with the mafia, it hadn't been enough to just take them down. She'd been hurt by them and she wanted to hurt them right back. Maybe the girl and the monster she'd worn had just... meshed together. Like she did with her Senketsu.
Reki's next question shook her out of her thoughts, and she lifted her head. She frowned a little, thoughtful, before nodding.]
I... I think so, yeah, I hope so anyway. I... do my best, anyway, to make her happy. [Her eyes shift, glancing toward Reki's hands.] Sometimes it feels like I'm causing her more problems than good though.
no subject
It was probably better to just let that question slide.]
No. You're not. [She looked Raye dead in the eyes, her tone noticeably shifting a little.] After all the shit she went through, in Locke and Japan, she's probably so goddamn happy to have someone like you there with her.
[Her gaze shifts to the floor. Raye is likely to hear her mutter under her breath.] ...At least that makes... one of us.
no subject
She blinks a little, both at Reki's insistence and the change in her tone. She turns away for a second, before nodding a little.]
Right. [She catches that mutter, and lets a second pass in silence before looking up.] Look. I know I'm probably the last person you want to spend any time with, and I don't blame you. Shit, if you want this to be the last time we ever talk, that's up to you.
[She takes a breath.]
But, if you ever need any kinda help from me. You just gotta call.
no subject
[Or maybe it was just because Raye was a Numbered at the time. Just another reason to hate the universe, it seems.]
.
....But, thanks. I'll keep the, uh... offer in mind.
[A beat. She frowns and looks at Raye. Her expression was subtly different from before, more stern.]
Look. There's... shit you probably don't know about Rakka. She hasn't told you, has she.... about the reason she came to Locke?
no subject
Any time, any place.
[That offer would be good forever, and that was all she had to say about that. She'd... almost expected Reki to turn and leave at just that, but she blinked when she brought up Rakka, lifting her head again.]
She... actually, all she told me was that her parents sent her to live here.
no subject
Uh huh, and she didn't tell you why.
[Her Raye knew. That truth had come out quite a while ago. Reki found herself frowning at the memories that she wouldn't like to think about right now. All of that... was in the past.
Reki let out a sigh, shaking her head.]
I... She... [Was she really the right person to tell Raye this? Even if she had those memories..? Reki sighed. There was no easy way to say this, and she wouldn't have tried.] Look, the shitty truth is... Rakka's life wasn't good back there. And she's more like me then you'd think she is.
no subject
Nonetheless, she'd meant every word she'd said. She hadn't gone back on a promise she'd made to Rakka yet, and she wouldn't for her doppelganger.]
She told me that she and her parents had a lot of problems. [She frowns, sensing that there's more going on here than just that.] I dunno... sometimes I feel like there's more to it than that but, whenever it comes up she just goes quiet about it.
TW from here on
Yeah. [Reki's tone marked that statement as incredibly obvious.] I guess you never really think of a good way to talk about the time you attempted suicide.
no subject
The simple, almost casual statement, slammed into her like a truck. Her face paled and for a long moment, her voice failed. All she could do was stare.]
... What?
no subject
...Like I said, never a good way to talk about it. [She let the statement sit for a moment, watching as Raye faltered.] The reason Rakka's here, in Locke at all.... it's because her fucking parents shipped her here after she jumped off a balcony.
[She hugged her arms around herself, looking far more... vulnerable then normal. Even if she wasn't Rakka, she remembered all of the terrible things.]
no subject
For a moment, seeing Reki like that she wants to run forward and throw her arms around her. She has Rakka's face, Rakka's voice, and seeing that pain, knowing it exists and why, tears at her. But in the same second, she reminds herself of why she can't. Reki isn't Rakka and... she wouldn't like for her own, very good, reasons.
So, she looks away, trying to think of something. She has to say or do something, but....]
Falling. [She finally says, quietly.] She... she has bad dreams about falling sometimes.
no subject
There were several urges working against each other. She could just leave, giving Raye and life itself a middle finger on the way out. Or maybe she could just burst into tears and cry on the fucking floor. Despite all these feelings... Reki stood there, finding a place to sit just didn't connect in her mind.
She gave Raye a weak shrug.] We both do, and so did the other Rakka. The details are vague... but it might be the same. It's almost like some prophecy bullshit.
no subject
It's a long moment before she blinks, something finally occurring to her and she suddenly slaps both her hands against her forehead.]
Aww... fuck! I'm such an idiot!
no subject
W-what...?
