first rain ☂ handwritten, backdated to July 23

If your past self did something, was part of something, that is hurting people now [that hurt your friends] does that mean you are a bad person? or going to be?

[This is obviously the best birthday present he could get--learning he was Mafia after the Mafia has started attacking his friends.]

Even if our past selves were bad people (and they might turn out to be not as bad as we initially thought), we are not them and if we fight it, we can stay ourselves despite the pulses. [Or they have to believe that they can, because what happens if they can't?)

[It takes a while for a reply, mostly because Thorir frowns deeply at the screen before hitting send.] Your other was in the mafia? [Assuming that "your other was a giant snake" is not an option, and since it is happening now it's probably not about the Blood Keys...]

No, but there is a possibility you might become that other person gradually over the course of time.

[He's speaking from personal experience of receiving not so pleasant personality traits since he's joined the network. Although obtaining that kind of knowledge on someone's birthday would be the worse thing ever.]

Not that I know of. Especially when everyone experiences different triggers for their 'pulses'. Sorry.

What I typed is probably something you didn't want to hear, so I was apologizing for that.

Hopefully.

no because youre not the same person as your past self. you dont have to be like them.

you just keep holding on to who you are. like yeah the echoes are going to change you some but that doesnt mean you have to become someone you dont want to be.

I've told others in the past that I believed it was perfectly reasonable to stay in-control of who we are now and not let a former self pverpower our identities.

Though, after some more recent developments, I certainly can see why some people struggle with it. Some traits can be very overwhelming...

I think it may be a case of people unknowingly talking themselves into becoming that person. They do something that is so unlike you, so you try and rationalize why they'd do it, and what their drives are. You condense it into something that makes sense in your scope of things, and if you're not careful, you catch yourself emulating something they've done because it now makes sense to you.

In a way, being TOO dedicated to not being like them is just as bad as making no effort to retain yourself. I learned this the hard way.

No? I've never really put all that much store in fate and destiny. You're who you make yourself to be.

it just means you have the potential for it
reincarnation is a huge jumbled mess
if it were actually as simple as you were bad before youre going to be bad in the same ways now there wouldnt be so many stories about it

I should think it simply means that they might have been a bad person.

Who you may have been in another life has no bearing on who you are now. Just because another you was bad before does not mean the present you is by default bad, as well.

No? I don't think so anyway? As long as your present self isn't going out of their way to hurt people, you won't be!

And if you keep that up, you definitely aren't going to be too!

Guess it depends how willing you are to fight it.
Some of these pulses can get real overwhelming, but they're not who you are.

Of course not!

Remember, you're always a great person!

And anyone who says otherwise is a big jerk!

[The Dians don't even know this guy, but apparently this is now happening.]
