[some of you may have seen this relatively new number replying to other posts for a bit (and if you have you've seen how weird the owner is) but most of you probably haven't. either way Nyah's making a post now as if she's always been here, no introduction or other newbie-related stuff included. she figures it's not really important to the narrative if she's doing some information scouting]

important question
how many of you are reincarnated lovers?
if you could specify if you were also tragic and to what degree in your past life thatd be super helpful
im trying to figure out which genres this whole thing isnt trying to play with and romance is a big fat question mark right now
if it does end up being relevant then im going to wash my hands of this whole thing from a creative perspective i swear
what a clunky thing to have to deal with

also
unrelated to the first question, but
throw some mythologies that feature malevolent entities with major canine characteristics at me?
im looking to expand my horizons on that front
somesayinfire: (but maybe that's okay)

Well, there's Norse mythology. Fenrisúlfr, hand-chomper of Týr and slayer of Odin. He's an enormous wolf and one of Loki's sons.

Not so sure about the lovers part, but it's looking like my past life with my girlfriend was kind of tragic. I'm gunning for urban fantasy myself, genre-wise.

It's been a while since I've had to look it up. Let's see... the gods bound him to a rock and to stop him from killing anybody else, they shoved a sword through him and his blood and saliva formed a river called Hope. No matter how many men are in Valhalla at the time of Ragnarök, "it will seem all too small, in the time when the Wolf shall come". And his jaws will reach from earth to the heavens, and he'd open even wider if he could. So I'd say Fenrisúlfr is kind of big on the slaying, yeah. No idea if he can fly.

Anyway. I'm not in any Ragnarök situation with Rae, but from what I know about who we used to be, I'd probably give it a seven. Maybe a soft eight.

reincarnated lovers???

uh, I'm sure there's some of us that might have been something like that, but not many. in my past self, she was really good friends with this one girl but idk much about it yet.

I think this whole thing is sci fi maybe? with bits of fantasy
somesayinfire: (you never looked like this)

Yeah, romance is kind of tricky when you're not some hopeless romantic like me. ...Hey, wait, hold on. What's the Scottish play got to do with dog-related mythology?
charcoalfeather: (Is that heaven?)

Uh yeah sure. not too sure if it's love, but I guess it could be.

Well I say fantasy because there's like magic girls and fairies and stuff around here. plus I'm kind of literally an angel

I guess except for when you might get killed or something when things go bad

[Which happened a lot]

the kind with wings and a halo. im pretty sure im not going to turn into a flaming wheel or something
somesayinfire: (there's no mourning to see)

Okay, so you are in Locke. Either you're naturally an enormous mythology nerd or you need mythology knowledge to figure out an echo. Either way, hi, I'm Brooke, and I'm an enormous mythology nerd and mortician. If you need any of either of those services, I'm glad to provide. I'll start combing through some of my books, see if I can find any more canine myths.
wonk: (wait what)

charcoalfeather: (My halo?)

yeah okay. that's true. but it's still dangerous sometimes because of weird monsters like the item thingys that were just here

yeah. and I wouldn't really say its fun either. its pretty hard hiding this halo, and growing wings was horrible
somesayinfire: (but maybe that's okay)

[personal profile] somesayinfire 2014-04-23 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, I am definitely going to throw Rae at you at some point. I can already see you two dorking out about writing. That's probably the right idea, though. Getting to the bottom of these things early never really does more harm than good. Let's see...

There's Cúchulainn in Ireland. He killed a nobleman's dog and vowed to serve that nobleman until he could breed a replacement, then became famous for a sword technique where he stopped being able to tell friends and enemies apart on the battlefield... no, that's probably a little too far off. I'm assuming you already exhausted all the stuff on Red Riding Hood?

yeah but there was one that made you blab your secrets. I'm glad they got that cleaned up

puberty?? really?
well it could be used as a metaphor for something, but thatd be kind of silly wouldn't it?
somesayinfire: (i'm sure you've got so much to tell me)

[personal profile] somesayinfire 2014-04-23 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
What's the easy way out? Fanfiction? Or are we talking, like, 50 Shades? ;)

Oh, cool, you've really done your research! I'm noticing a lot of consuming coming up in these myths. Mostly eating the sun or the moon, or both. One of Shiva's forms is a dog named Vairavar that represents annihilation, from what this book says. He cut off one of Brahma's heads. I'd say Hinduism is always kind of vague about destruction being a bad thing, but this seems pretty clear.

People feel bad for you because, what, you couldn't get your hands on that piece of garbage? Man, I LIKE harlequin romance and I still think you're lucky you haven't had to live through that media firestorm.

This book doesn't go too far into it, but it does mention that Vairavar begged his way to the holy city with Brahma's skull attached to his hand, then cut himself pretty severely to make a blood offering that still didn't fill Brahma's skull. It would make sense to me if he lost a limb, but Hinduism isn't really in my wheelhouse.
