savetheearth | 001 [Audio-Locker malfunction

[It's another beautiful morning at Locke High, and although he'd rather be almost anywhere else, Kenji is standing in front of his locker a few minutes before his first class is scheduled to begin. After glaring at the locker for a few moments, he decides he might as well get his books, and so dials in what he thinks is the combination. But with his usual technology fail, he actually dials in that annoying string of numbers that's been haunting him off and on for the past several weeks.]

...The hell? Open, dammit!

[There's a faint metallic clinking as he jiggles the lock to no avail.]

Stupid lock! I don't need this crap at eight in the morning, okay?!

[And now there's a loud banging as if someone were enthusiastically kicking something metallic--which is pretty much the case.]

Bastard! You're doing this on purpose, aren't you?!

[Kenji can probably be heard all over the first floor at this point. Anyone passing by will see an irate kid roughing up his locker. Which smugly resists his attempts to open it.]

[Kenji's pretty fast--not to mention more than a little freaked out at the moment, so he manages to make it outside before Bakura catches him. He tries to yank his arm away.]

What? What do you want? Leave me alone!

[[Bakura's grip is pretty tight when he gets a hold of something, and this has his attention. A second yank likely will break the hold, however.]]

How did you do that?

I don't know! It just happens! [He manages to break away this time and backs away a few steps]

Whatever it is, I can't control it so just... [He holds one hand out in a 'stay' gesture] ...don't.

Don't punch me and it'll be fine....

[[There was a hesitation]]

When did it start? A few days ago?

Yeah? You know that for a fact, do you?

[Still agitated, he runs a hand through his hair, takes a deep breath and slowly lets it out.

A month or so ago. I was out in the Dead District and a guy tried to mug me. Same thing happened to his gun.

[[The dead district again...]]

...was there something you keep thinking of that came with it?

[Scowling, he rubs absently at the back of his head, thinking.]

I dunno, it was weird. It was, like, I remembered something that never happened. Then those damn numbers. [Shakes his head, clearly frustrated] That's all I got, man.

[[a small nod]] You have a phone? I can show you something.

[He blinks at that, but hell, given everything else that's happened so far this morning, he'll just roll with this latest strangeness.]

Yeah, I got one. [He fishes it out of his back pocket and holds it up.] You gonna tell me my phone's making everything go poof?

[[shakes his head I don't know anything about that, but the number, I can explain. Put it into your phone.

Oookay. [He punches the number in.] Now what?

[[was watching closely as he did and swiftly enters the number into his own, opening up a private connection]]

It's like another way to text. Only it works no matter where you put the number.'

[blinks, surprised as the message appears on his phone.]

Well, I'll be damned. How the hell is this even possible?

I'm not really sure, to be honest! At least through the phones, it makes sense, but I had it happen in my math notes.

You math notes? [He ponders that for a few moments, then shakes his head.] Yeah, that doesn't make much sense.

So, any idea where this came from?

Not really. A bunch of people have had it happen, but no one seems to have had it the same way or know anything about it. It's all a big mystery, really!

Huh. Figures.

Anybody have any idea what we're supposed to do with it? Or about it? Whatever.

Pretty clueless on that too, unfortunately... though, I can't help to think it's something like out of a sentai show or something. Something like Power Rangers. [[yes, he watched that show, so what?]]

Power Rangers?! [That gets a laugh from him.] So we all use the numbers to combine into a big robot, or something?

[Yep, that definitely amuses him.]

I'd be pretty awesome if so, right? [[grins]] And the rest of it fits already!

Heh. Maybe. Depends on who made up the rest of the robot.

[pause]

The rest of it? You mean there's more? [sigh] Oh man...I can hardly wait.

[[hey hey, what's the sigh for? Just think about the possible giant robots!]]

Bunch of people in the same area getting a way to talk to each other and weird powers, visions or whatever going up against birds with teeth and mutant squirrels? Totally a Power Rangers plot.

[Okay, he'll admit that some of that is kind of cool. Maybe.]

Maybe if the writers were on crack, or something. I mean,blowing up lockers? That's not a power--it's an enigma on the way to becoming a bozo.

[He pauses a moment, considering, then shrugs.] Mutant squirrels sound pretty awesome, though. I must've missed those. Figures.

Side effect of a power. You never have good control of them to start with, right? That's why you have character development arcs and stuff like that!

And they look pretty cool, but they're annoying as hell when they spot you.

If you say so, dude. I ain't exactly got a whole lot of experience to fall back on, here. [It still sounds like a lame-ass power to him.]

Yeah? What happens when they spot you?
