A lot of you are probably aware of this, but right now, the local police are under some pretty heavy investigation by the FBI. The ones who are close with Sherman in particular, obviously, and all of those arrests. All that means for the network is that the cops aren't monitoring or looking for anyone right now. They're keeping their heads down.
As far as the police are concerned, the alien being destroyed isn't the end of it. There are more of them coming, now that the snake was taken out.
Sherman isn't worried at all, I'm pretty sure he really believes the aliens are going to take care of everything, since we destroyed the snake for them. Chief Edwards is... really worrying. About the FBI, about the aliens, everything.
There hasn't been any communication, or any sign of activity from the aliens that are supposed to be coming. Honestly, I have no idea what that actually means.
[He pauses for a moment, then just ends it there. Nick doesn't bother using a proxy like he has before, because he's not sure how much longer it's going to matter. By now, there's enough cops on the network that he doesn't feel the need to explain himself, unless he's asked.]
[Private to Karl and Melissa]
Do you guys have any idea what the hell you're going to say?
[Private to Anthony and Alex K.]
Either of you have any interest in going on an overnight camping trip? I apparently pulsed back a pretty awesome camping trailer, and I could use a vacation.

No, the snake was the thing the aliens wanted dead, apparently. I'm not sure if that means we accidentally helped them.

So Sherman's not concerned at all that the government could have something on him and his alien "buddies"?

[There's worry here, Nick. You may or may not pick up on it, but he's worried. About what the FBI are going to do to his friend, currently, more than the aliens bit. That can wait until it's a bit more immediate to fret over, when he's got something else right in front of him first.
At least, for the moment. That fretting might come in an hour or so.]

I don't know. I can't tell them nothing, but I - honestly, I'd like to tell them the truth. But I don't know if we can trust them, and I can't be sure that it won't get back to Sherman.

That said, you might have us to sort of blame for some parts of that heat.

[ This is 50% actual confidence and 50% wishful thinking. Alex is in a weird place right now where he's thrown basically all of his chips with the FBI in the hopes that they'll crack down on all the bullshit in the police department and he'll be able to walk out in the open again.
He hopes so badly. ]

Did you managed to find out why they want the snake gone?
Sorry about the investigation, we thought if anyone could help with kicking Sherman and Edwards out, it's the FBI right now.

Nah, don't be sorry. If it helps uncover what they've been doing, it needs to happen.

You could go with ALex, and I could - stay - stay here and umm. Take care of the - [With a long E-sound.] - apartment...
[He's not even sure why he's babbling on like that, maybe subconscious thought that he's not going to be the most relaxing company, but his answer to the question alone is "yes" - keeping questions on the trailer just behind the figurative gate.]
threaaadjack, hope it's ok [video]

Sherman's aware that the alien that was here is dead and that there's a chance his buddies might just nuke the city from orbit out of spite, right? Because if I've been spending months afraid of a moron I'm going to hit something.
[There's a brief pause as he switches to private - he doesn't know for sure if Nick still wants to keep his cop-ness a secret, but he's not going to out the guy without being told it's okay first.]
You guys be careful, okay?
And no offense - I am SO GLAD this is forcing them to leave us alone. I miss being able to leave the apartment without being in a near-constant state of freaking out.
[Text]
[...yeah, he's grateful for the private switch. If nothing else, it means he can be a little more open about things that might identify him.]
No offense taken. I'm glad, too, if this means it'll stop the bogus arrests - and worse. It might make things difficult for us for a while, but... we'll handle it.
