So let's say you picked up something from those statues or whatever and you're having some trouble controlling it. Also, it's not exactly something easy to hide and very limited how often you can use it, but obviously not something a normal person can do. Please don't ask me what it is because I prefer not to discuss that.
What I am looking for is how any others who have gained strange abilities have learned how to control them, especially how to turn them on and off at will. I need ideas to try.

Since I'm sure you are just worried sick about me, Sir Lancelot. I thought I'd let you know that after a night's rest and trying out that other ability that there is no need for this damsel to be rescued any longer. I do appreciate your timely rescue though.

As for turning it on intentionally, it really just comes with focusing on a single point. Not sure how to describe it other than that.
Text
And by a single point, do you mean something like aiming for a particular location?
Text
Yeah. Just focusing on a target area. Seems to work, but I'm still trying to get a handle on it.
Text
Ah, so it might be something your body is doing in defense. That makes sense. Though I don't remember being surprised when it happened, just sitting in class or with a friend. [Because for her it's more negative emotions, not that she's figured that one out yet.]
I'll definitely give that a try. Thanks for your answer!
Text
Probably. But the accidental slips are the most useless when it would come to actual defense.
[What good is frost when something's attacking you? Ice would be a lot better, but that takes concentration.]
Text
They really are and just reveal that you're not normal.
[Just like what use is her own ability. She can grow her hair real long and make it attack someone. You know how much it sucks to have your hair suddenly grow a foot or so out of the blue? Plus it's an opening for Rapunzel or Medusa jokes.]

That forum gave another piece by the way.

It also seems that what I saw was what made her fall in love with him. I was right, she was a nice girl at first. She was just sad and lonely and Hayate changed that for her and she fell in love with him because of that. If that makes any sense.

The name Hayate sounds a little familiar to me, like deja vu. But I'm not sure if that's because of a memory or just because I've heard it somewhere else.

Would be nice if it shot lasers at those werewolves or something, then you'd not have to worry about them.

[Maybe it keeps him and his monster self contained? He's got no idea.]

The statue we looked at gave me a weird ability to grow my hair and use it as a weapon. Needless to say that does draw some attention if I can't control it.
On the upside, when I figure it out I'll have an awesome ability to disguise myself? Definitely can't beat being able to grow hair long enough to make Rapunzel jealous in a matter of seconds.
[Private/Text]
But you're right! People will definitely notice if your hair starts growing in public. There must be some way to learn how to stop it.
What have you tried so far? Maybe we can think of some new ideas together.
[Private/Text]
As long as I don't have my hair pinned up when I use it. I've taken to wearing hats and pinning it up into the hat to serve as a warning system.
It does seem that cutting it stops it from growing for a time. I carry scissors in my purse now and I probably know where every bathroom on campus is by now. That was knowledge I could do without.
Otherwise, I can't seem to pin down a particular trigger to it. When my other self used it, she just was able to do it with very little thought. It was actually disturbing just how good she was at it.
[Not to mention who the victim was. She freaked at the statue because she recognized the poor guy.]
[Private/Text]
I mean! If your other self was able to do it without much thought, maybe over-thinking it makes it more complicated than it actually is? What happens when you try relaxing and treating it... hm. Treating it like moving your fingers on a keyboard, maybe? I know I do that without much thought but I manage to hit the keys I need without many mistakes, if any! But when I focus on the keys too much I end up making more mistakes.
And maybe you could keep track of the things happening around you when it does happen? Writing it down so you don't forget. That way, if something similar happens, you'll be able to tell if you get the same reaction or not. If you don't then it might just be that it's random!
