Who: Kara and Jacuzzi
When: Sometime today (February 8) I guess.
Where: Locke City Community College
What: Dorm invasion! Er. Kara makes good on her ~~threat~~ promise to bring over snacks and brainstorm about helping Jacuzzi be less panicky. She's also probably going to teach him wrestling moves.
Warnings: Aggressive friendship. Really aggressive.

[contrary to Jacuzzi's fervent hopes, Kara has not forgotten her offer of help. quite the opposite, in fact - she's got a large container of piping hot borscht and savory pampushky all packed up in a quilted tote bag and a list of possible ways to decrease anxiety attacks tucked safely away between all the food.

she's obviously excited for the outing as she stands in the middle of the community college's campus, ponytail bobbing up and down in time with her heel-rocking. wrestling Jacuzzi's specific dorm room out of him had seemed a little too pushy, so she'd settled for convincing him to spill the general location and have them meet up instead. hey, maybe he had a better idea for where they could go anyway.

in the meantime, she's scanning the crowd while she waits. it shouldn't be hard for Jacuzzi to pick her out, at least: she's six feet tall and sporting fire engine red hair.

I am very lucky to have discovered what I love early on, and that those around me are as excited about it as I am. I am certain that it will come to you in time as well!

[she smiles encouragingly before pausing to (maybe a little undaintily) have a nice slurp of her soup]

In the meantime, if you are ever in need of a high powered telescope it is likely that I will be able to provide it.

I don't think I need one of those... [He sounds very unsure about it. But he doesn't even have an astronomy class this semester.] T-thanks, though...

Sorry, it's probably not as nice here as the University....

I was not particularly comparing them, to be perfectly honest. This is a very charming place with its own merits!

[she shrugs blithely]

But perhaps I think this way because of my old university. We did not have the best facilities, but all of my teachers cared very much about their work.

[They unfortunately do not care so much here, Kara.] Is that why you came here?

[shhh let her believe that all professors are like her beloved astronomy profs from home]

It is! The state of our equipment was very well known to everyone in the university, and so my professors encouraged me to finish my education somewhere that would provide me with better opportunities. It was very touching to be supported in that manner.

[He won't be the one to spoil her dreams.]

They sound like they were really good professors. You must've been a good student, though, too.

I loved them very much; it is my hope that I can make them proud through diligent work here!

[gonna make everyone happy and achieve her dreams and it's gonna be great aw yiss. she laughs a little bit at the second part of his reply, though]

Although I do not know if I would go so far as to say that. There were many more talented than me, and it is the same here as well. I simply work very hard.

Yeah, but talent doesn't always make you a great student, right? You have to work hard and really make an effort or talent doesn't mean that much. Somebody with skill'll beat somebody with talent any day... So long as you're working hard, you'll be a good student.

Well, I am most certainly working hard! It would be a disservice to myself and those who believe in me otherwise.

[she laughs]

Ah, but I am very sorry! I visited to do things for you and we have been talking mostly about me. That is quite rude.

Huh? No, that's okay! There's nothing special about me and you really don't have to help with anything or anything and you're really interesting!

Not in a creepy way I hope that didn't sound creepy, but it seems like you've done a lot and know a lot so I don't mind is what I mean. You've been really nice, too, so don't feel like you have to do anything like that or that you're being rude because you're not--if anything I'm being rude because I've been asking you so many things so please don't worry about it. If you want to talk I'm really interested, and I'd just bore you or frustrate you because I really don't know how to fix anything about me, and a lot of people have tried and a lot of doctors failed so it's not really that I'm not grateful you want to help, it's just not that easy, so it's okay if we keep talking about you I don't mind at all.

[there's a pause as Kara blinks at the impressive display of pulmonary fortitude. then she begins to laugh again]

Oh, please do not be concerned about my own feelings! If you are content with it I could very well continue speaking until the sun set. It is one of my less than ideal qualities.

[she smiles, sliding another pampushky his way. bro you need to take a deep breath]

Besides, I think I already know how you may help yourself! So it is nothing to be worried about.

No, I think it's great! I mean, that you can talk a lot. I've never been really good at it, I kind of lose track of what I'm saying and go in circles, so I'm not the best person to talk with but I'll listen if you want to talk. I think it's interesting. [He's a little curious as to what she thinks this fix is but he is trying to veer away from her eventual disappointment that he is absolutely unfixable.]

I am glad that I could be so entertaining! At home it is a bit more of a problem than a blessing, as all of us have the same tendencies. It becomes quite loud very quickly.

It sounds like it might, but it's a lot nicer than if it was quiet all the time...

Indeed! When things fell silent we were either all asleep or our mother had finally reached her breaking point, so it was never something to be courted.

Your family sounds really nice... [It's honestly all he can think. They just sound nice. Like how a family is supposed to be. Supportive and loyal and nice, even if they get into fights and stuff.]

They are some of the most wonderful people in the world. I am glad that I am able to still speak with them here, even if it is not quite the same.

[she wouldn't be half as far in her life if it hadn't been for the support of her family. they're everything to her, and it's apparent from the warmth of her tone and expression]

Are you going to go back when you finish school?

If I am not offered a job upon graduation, yes. But I do not think that I will stay there very long - the work that I wish to pursue is simply not being done in Ukraine.

Well--well, you'll probably be able to go back at least once in a while, right? For vacations and stuff?

Oh yes, most certainly! Even if I do not work at home, it will be much easier to travel and visit once school is over.

[she laughs]

Perhaps if I am lucky enough I will have enough clout to be able to simply decide to host a series of lectures there as an excuse to go home.

Maybe you can go back as a professor sometime, too. If you miss it.

Perhaps! It would make me feel very happy if I was able to bring more opportunities back with me.

[almost all of her classmates had been just as passionate as she was, and the idea of being able to provide better funding or equipment to the colleges was a gratifying one]

I'm sure you can! I mean, if you got this far, you're probably going to get a lot farther, right?

I am going to try, at the very least! It is really all that I can do beyond hope for the best.

[her spoon scrapes the bottom of the bowl as she speaks; Kara considers briefly doing a little slurping to reach the last bits, but assumes this is probably rude in non-family company and so refrains]
