Who: Kara and Jacuzzi
When: Sometime today (February 8) I guess.
Where: Locke City Community College
What: Dorm invasion! Er. Kara makes good on her ~~threat~~ promise to bring over snacks and brainstorm about helping Jacuzzi be less panicky. She's also probably going to teach him wrestling moves.
Warnings: Aggressive friendship. Really aggressive.

[contrary to Jacuzzi's fervent hopes, Kara has not forgotten her offer of help. quite the opposite, in fact - she's got a large container of piping hot borscht and savory pampushky all packed up in a quilted tote bag and a list of possible ways to decrease anxiety attacks tucked safely away between all the food.

she's obviously excited for the outing as she stands in the middle of the community college's campus, ponytail bobbing up and down in time with her heel-rocking. wrestling Jacuzzi's specific dorm room out of him had seemed a little too pushy, so she'd settled for convincing him to spill the general location and have them meet up instead. hey, maybe he had a better idea for where they could go anyway.

in the meantime, she's scanning the crowd while she waits. it shouldn't be hard for Jacuzzi to pick her out, at least: she's six feet tall and sporting fire engine red hair.

[Jacuzzi is not a person who is good with people by any means. His actions over the network were a pretty good indicator of how he acts in real life. He's a short guy, not sturdy in the least bit, who doesn't look too put together. He's the kind of person who tries to make himself small just to stop people from noticing him. The giant tattoo on his face is not helping his cause. Try as he might, he's had trouble really covering it convincingly with makeup. He's about given up trying to hide it at all.

So when he sees Kara, it sets of every alarm in his head that she is a very obvious sort of person. That kind you can't help but notice. Not that that's bad, he reasons to himself, but it's just not the kind of person he normally would consider spending time with. But she's pushy (not that that's a bad thing) and he didn't want to make her mad or upset by giving her wrong directions.

He freezes, though, a little bit, realizing he has no idea how to approach her. Even casual interaction with her seems like it's going to be an ordeal and he has no idea what to do with that.

Still, it's cold and he doesn't want to leave her outside, so he has to say something. He summons what little courage he has, takes a deep breath and approaches.

And generally looks like a puppy that's been kicked one to many times.]

Hey.

Jacuzzi? It is so wonderful to meet you in person!

[they've never actually seen each other, after all, so even though that faintly regretful tone is pretty easy to recognize Kara tacks on the question just in case. she grins widely, shifting the bag strap on her shoulder a little instead of following her first instinct which is to bounce on her feet in excitement a little.

this is going to be so much fuuuuuuun]

I have brought the food as I promised! We will need bowls for its consumption, but otherwise I am ready to go wherever you think is best.

[... Fun. Sure. He straightens up a just a little bit.] My roommate's out, so if you want to go there--

[He shakes his head.] But it's kinda small and his side is kind of a mess but if you're okay with that I mean it's kinda weird for me to ask you into my room [JACUZZI SHE'S THE ONE WHO SUGGESTED IT] but you can't bring food in the library and the dining hall is always packed and noisy so it's probably the best choice but only if... that's... okay with you... [He loses steam and energy as he ends his train of thought.

This is going to go. Just great.]

It is perfectly fine with me! I love to see how my friends have decorated their living spaces.

[Kara feels the strong urge to grab him by the arm and get this shit started, but not only is that rude she doesn't actually know the way so she resists. just barely.

she does laugh a little and point dramatically, though.]

I didn't decorate much... but okay...

[He leads her toward his dorm. He's the kind of guy that flinches at everything so it's almost amazing he can even get back. He fumbles with his key but manages to let her in his dorm. And his room, even. His side has almost nothing personal on it, though the opposite side has clothes everywhere. He doesn't want anything to get stolen by his roommate.]

No, it is quite charming! I always find it fascinating to see how differently people decorate the same spaces; my own is a stark contrast to this one.

[she laughs a little, setting her tote bag down on the nearest flat surface and beginning to pull items out of it]

And it reminds me of some of my brothers' rooms, to be quite honest. I had missed that!

You mentioned them before. How many brothers do you have?

[SMALL TALK. He can do small talk. It draws the conversation to her and that will make things easier.]

You can sit anywhere you want, too. Just... not on his stuff, I don't trust it...

Nine! They are all older than I am and quite difficult to deal with, but I find now that they are so far away I miss their silliness.

[she smiles, the expression soft and fond as her thoughts inevitably stray back to her brothers. talking with them over skype really wasn't the same at all.

Kara can't help but shoot the other side of the room a glance at Jacuzzi's warning, but she obligingly stays away from it and settles firmly on a non-roommate's-items seat. she continues speaking, fishing around the bottom of the tote for the plastic utensils and dishes she's fairly certainly she tossed in here]

Do you have any siblings of your own?

Nine? That's a lot. [He manages to stop himself before he asks if they're all like her in their apparent difficulty. He doesn't want it to be taken as an insult, but he can only imagine how busy a house with ten people as energetic as Kara can get--] You start to miss people when you don't spend every day with them, I guess...

It's just me and my parents. I think I was hard enough for them.

So I have been told! It was not that unusual at home, so I never really thought on it before coming here. But I think that all children are trying on their parents, no matter how many there are.

[she shrugs nonchalantly. it's not meant to be a hit on kids; quite the opposite, considering all of the shenanigans she got up to as a kid that she now considers precious memories.]

How many pampushky would you like?

Yeah, I--I can get that. [He was a special kind of "trying" on his mom and dad. The kind that failed literally everything he attempted, whether he wanted to be successful at it or not.]

What's a--[Oh no he'll pronounce it wrong, crap, try again.] What's that?

[Kara holds up the tupperware container of pampushky with a small smile]

It is sort of like a little roll that we often eat with borscht. They are very delicious - sometimes I eat all of mine before remembering to dip even one in the soup.

What's it taste like? [Hopefully that doesn't come off as ignorant.]

Delicious! [she breaks one in half and holds it out] Here, try it for yourself.

[He side eyes it so hard, but he'll take it and hesitantly take a bite--

Pleasant surprise! It takes pretty good. He blinks and for once in his goddamn life, he smiles.]

You made it?

[that makes her grin widen. Kara casually piles a couple onto Jacuzzi's napkin to go with the borscht she's carefully pouring out now]

Yes, I did, along with the borscht. I enjoy making the meals for my friends, and it is always better with things that are specific to your homeland to make it yourself. This way there is no disappointment in quality.

[He's asking a very daring question--!!]

What's it like, where you're from?

[What if she gets sad? What if she gets homesick? What if she left home fleeing from someone completely awful?]

Oh, it is very different! But that is mostly because I grew up on a farm, I think. It is full of rolling fields and a wide open sky, the sort that you would believe could truly go on forever when you are a child.

The people are warm and friendly, even if sometimes you feel that they are stubborn enough to outlast the end of the world itself. There are still many problems that we face, but I am not worried. It is a good place.

[she hums fondly, looking down at the bowls with a pensive expression. it doesn't make her sad to think of home, it simply sends her thoughts back to the people she's left there. it's hard not to wonder how they're doing.

either way, she slides Jacuzzi's half of the meal over to him in a moment. dig in, bro.]

Why'd you come to the city if you lived on a farm? Isn't it really loud?

[He's a little tentative about this food but he will try it. It's a different taste! But not bad, he thinks. Just something new.]

It is not really so noisy as that! You would be surprised how much clatter farm machinery can make, especially when it is several decades past its prime.

[she laughs, dipping a pampushky into her soup before continuing]

Every time I have come to a city it has been for my studies. My passion is not something which can be followed in the field, unfortunately, so I must travel for it.

What are you studying?

[He is managing to stuff his face while he talks and for once he is content enough to be able to ask questions and wow he might be functioning.]

Astrophysics.

[she says the word like she's divulging a crush to a friend at a sleepover, complete with a fond smile direct at her food]

There is nothing I love more in the world, and to be able to further its study and expand our knowledge in the field is my greatest dream. I am very fortunate that I was allowed to come and study in the wonderful facilities you have here!

[Holy crap Jacuzzi is entirely impressed by this. A little bitter part of him thinks it must be nice to have drive and ambition enough to study something like that...]

Isn't that really hard? I-I mean--I've never been good at classes or anything, so--

It's really impressive.

It can be incredibly difficult at times! There have been many late nights where I would have preferred to pull all of my hair out by the roots rather than finish calculations and analyses.

[and that's no mean feat, considering the amount of hair that she has. but Kara laughs]

But it is not really so impressive! I am merely following what makes me the happiest.

Still, that seems really cool. I don't really know what I'm doing here. I'm only in college because my parents made me and I can barely pass the classes here, so it's really impressive that you know what you want and you're good at it too! [He's talking a little too fast, still. Very nervous, but he's managing it pretty well so far.]
