but there was science [closed]
Who: Benjamin Ratchet and Aaron Harding
When: January 9th, night
Where: Dead District
What: Benjamin attempts to pick Harding up from work, and ends up jumped by Blood Key members
They didn't have a date. Much like the time they'd spent together on Thanksgiving, or Christmas, or New Years, or any other occasion - there were quite a few - hadn't been a date. No matter what a certain lab assistant of his said. Obviously, he wasn't giving her enough work to focus on.
But they did have dinner plans, and for once, it wasn't Benjamin who would be at work until the time of their engagement. Which meant he could return the favor, and pick up Harding after he got off work.
It also meant that he was currently in the Dead District, waiting for him.
...and currently out of his car, because he'd spotted what appeared to be a pair of endangered Northeastern beach tiger beetles on a tree close to a nearby streetlamp, and gone investigating. Possibly farther off the street than he should have, because while he'd found them, he'd also found a group of Bloody Key members, that were none too happy at him walking into whatever they'd been doing.
Nor did they seem keen on listening to his explanations about the beetles. Or his attempts to leave, and he quickly found himself surrounded.

no subject
Which, if it were anyone else, wouldn't really be an issue. Or a surprise. But the professor -- doctor -- whichever -- was reliable. Punctual. And tardiness wasn't something he ever expected of him. He tried calling, to no avail. No response. Checking the network proved useless and annoying, so, grumbling to himself, the big man heaved himself off the curb outside the office building, and started the long hike to the nearest bus stop.
A walk which took him through the famed Dead District. Not that he was particularly concerned for his own safety. He was wary, alert. After the previous run-in with the Blood Keys, he'd come out fairly sure they weren't much of a threat to himself.
...
The familiar figure down the street, however, was another story. He recognized him.
And, without another thought, he started striding across the street, his posture one of a man with an axe to grind. A man who had every intention of kicking teeth in. Aggression, intimidation. A walking threat the size of a linebacker, advancing on the cluster.
