[The feed comes on to a certain redhead. She looks frazzled to say the least, and a bit irritated to boot.]

I have a question. Has anyone gotten an item from an echo that won't go away? Or, I guess in this case, is stuck? Because I woke up with this--

[The video moves and focuses on her left hand, where a very modest ring sits on her ring finger. It's pretty obvious from how red it is around it that she's been working to try to get it off.]

And I've tried just about everything I can think of and it will not come off. It's too tight. I don't even know where it came from. I can assume, but I have a party to go to in a few days and I really don't want to explain to my college friends that I didn't suddenly get married over break.

[She huffs slightly.]

How do I get rid of this thing?

There's an interesting coffee place near my apartment that I spend a lot of time with. They're a bit on the Sara side but they have a bit more appreciation for older schools of art and do good community work with local painters.

[She sounds amused.]

You drink coffee?

Tea, actually, which they also have.

Should have figured. That stuff just tastes like hot, leaf water to me.

But sure, that sounds good.

You just haven't had any good tea. Do you have a smartphone? I can email you the address.

Who doesn't this day and age?

[She rattles off her email.]

[A few moments later an address arrives]

Meet you in, say, half an hour?

Sounds good. I'll see you there.

[Daniel is already there when Elly walks in. The advantages of it being close to his place and all]

Hey! Glad you were able to find it all right.

[Elly pulls off her coat, draping it over a chair and setting a gift bag beside it.]

I've actually been here before, I just didn't recognize it from the address. It's pretty easy to find. I hope you didn't wait too long.

Not really, I'm pretty close so I just got here.

[Elly may note a small, reasonably flat-looking gift sitting beside him. It's surprisingly well wrapped. Must be the art student thing]

[It must be an art student thing. She and wrapping paper weren't on speaking terms. Picking up the gift, she sat down, sliding it toward him.]

Here. It's not much, I thought it would be useful on your runs.

[He'll find a pair of gloves and hat made specifically for running wrapped in tissue paper inside.]

Oh wow, thank you! I was actually thinking I needed both of these. Here, yours. I apologize, I don't have too much budget for gifts but I did this myself.

[In the package Elly will find a small painting of a snow-covered winter scenery at night. It's pretty good.]

[She stares at it for a moment. There's that feeling again, that kind of sadness there. She smiles warmly.]

Don't apologize. You're really good. Thank you.

That's because you aren't used to getting these from me yet. My roommate has a big sarcastic speech whenever he gets another painting but I've known him a long time so it figures.

[She shakes her head.]

I don't have an eye or ear for anything artistic, so I love stuff like this. Makes me wish I had that kind of talent.

I dunno, I'd say you've got a hell of a talent with medicine. All that is way beyond me.

There's a lot of memorization and calculated risk, as well as thinking on your feet. The rest is actually how to deal with people.

Well yeah. Art is just about conceptualizing and developing the skills to do it. It sounds simple when you break it down, but not everyone can do it.

I couldn't do that. I don't have the eye for it. I can hardly draw stick figures.

[She chuckles a bit.]

Thank you, really. I'll have to find somewhere nice to put it.

[Other than dodging phone calls from her girlfriends asking if she wants to go bar hopping.]

My roommate's throwing his usual big party. It can get a bit wild and it's not usually my thing. Would you be interested in coming? I could use someone a bit more level-headed to talk to.

I don't know if wild parties are really my thing, but it sounds better than what I had planned, honestly. Sure. It could be fun.
