Hello, everyone. It looks like I'm not the only person just now becoming aware of this... forum, for lack of a better word. I've already read through the FAQ, but while I admire the dedication of those maintaining it, I still have a few questions: Is there any meaningful distinction between using "pulses" and "echoes" to describe the memories (or other things, I'm lead to believe) that we receive? Is one preferred over the other, or is it a matter of personal preference? Do they carry different connotations? I've seen numerous references to aliens in multiple recent posts that I haven't found explained in the FAQ. Could someone kindly summarize? It sounds like people who don't receive pulses/echoes can't access or sense this network. If I were to access it by writing on a piece of paper, say, and I left that paper lying around somewhere, what would my parents see? What if they look at my screen as I'm typing on it? I'd rather not take unnecessary risks, particularly as I'd like to keep my involvement as minimal as possible. Thank you in advance.

I'll admit I'm a little interested [lie, she's a lot interested to see if this princess thing pans out] but give the amount of hassle it seems to put people though, I'd rather not deal with it until summer vacation at least.

yeah this isn't easy
but I've gotten all sorts of cool stuff
and I like being part of something so exciting I guess
even if it is scary sometimes
what'd you get for your first echo?

[but she feels... something, a prickling of destiny, as she slowly types out]

What was he like?

[Luke's a bit surprised at the sudden change. He got the impression that this girl was someone who really liked to talk, but he's not going to turn down the chance to finally tell someone about the specifics of his memory echos. After a brief pause he starts writing quickly, his handwriting getting a bit sloppier as a consequence.]

his names ganondorf and he's a Gerudo
which is basically just a normal person but with green skin
and red hair and a weird jewl thingy in his forehead?
and a HUUUGE nose
anyway the princess had a vision that he was a liar
and gonna betray the king and stuff (her dad?) and that
a kid in green with a fairy (that's me!) was gonna help stop him
cause he was storm clouds in her dream thing
and then I learned a song from her and

[He abruptly stops, realizing that he's gone kind of off topic and reels himself back in.]

but yeah that's what I know about the dude with the nose
he's a bad guy and stuff

["Ganondorf."]

[She knows as soon as she reads the name, even without the little thud that goes off inside of her. It's a truth she can't believe she could ever forget, that she would ever not know the name of the man in the window.]

[She remembers the storm cloud and the pillar of light, a boy in green with a fairy from the woods, like trying to remember a dream, and then she stares at her laptop screen for a good minute, trying to figure out how to respond.]

I remember that.

[and then in a rush as she just starts typing without thinking]

Ganondorf and my dream, I was looking at him in the courtyard holy shit his name's Ganondorf PRETEND I DIDN'T SAY THAT PLEASE

[Luke scrambles to find his hand mirror, and quickly switches to video, his face still wearing the shocked expression her words had caused.]

Are you Zelda?! I thought you said you were old? Whatever I'm Link! Do you remember me?

[The shocked expression quickly turns to one of excitement and expectation.]

[She's not sure what she's expecting-- maybe for him to deny it, to find something wrong with it, because the odds are too crazy, or maybe for it to be the exact boy from the memory-- dream? vision, he said?-- even if all she has is the impression of a person, more of a feeling than any identifying features]

[and instead, she sees a boy, a little kid (Evelyn please you're 4 years older than him) who's expecting something, and so she waits to feel the push again]

[and doesn't, not until he starts speaking, and even then it's just a split second-- a boy in green, holding a green stone, telling her his name in the same courtyard-- "Link"]

[so after a second, glancing around the room like she's expecting to see someone paying too much attention to her, she presses the button to turn on the webcam and switches to video herself.]

...A little. Barely. You had that stone.

...Zelda, huh...

Oh yeah! The Kokiri Emerald. The Deku tree gave it to me for saving him....or well something like that.

[He looks troubled for a moment, then relaxes a little. He spends a moment really looking at Evelyn. He tilts his head to the side, expression turning contemplative.]

Your hair's all fuzzy.

[She looks exasperated.]

It's curly!

[it's frizzy]

When I met you as a kid, your head was covered, so I couldn't see it.

...It looks soft.

[These eyes are the eyes of a child who desperately wants to touch your hair.]

Huh. [and for a moment, he can see her contemplating this, trying to remember what time period royal women were expected to cover their hair-- spoilers, she doesn't actually know this off the top of her head, but knows there was some time when this was the norm, and that could help narrow it down...]

[and then she realizes that he's still talking]

...Yeah, I guess... it's probably like yours...?

[His eyes flick up, and he runs a hand idly through his bangs. They're stringy and flat. Soft in a sort of boring way. Not like her hair.]

I guess...but yours is so fluffy.

Yeah, it's a bit of a pain to care for, but I don't mind. Straightening it takes a few hours, and I can't waste that much time on it.

[clearly you wanted an actual explanation, let her talk about her hair]

[He just sort of stares. Then blinks a bit. That all sounded really girly. He still wants to touch her hair but apparently asking about it is a dead end.

Weren't they talking about echos? Yeah they should talk about echos. Then he'll get a chance to brag.]

......Anyway you should talk to people and do stuff. So you remember me more. And maybe get younger? Or get vision-y powers? I got a sword, and fire magic, and bombs, and all sorts of cool adventure memories.

I hope I don't get younger. No offense, but it would ruin my college plans.

[...okay but that does sound pretty cool because apparently she's not just a princess, but some sort of psychic adventure princess] Where do you hide a sword?

[Luke blinks at her for a moment.]

...In my closet.

[He doesn't say duh, but it's kind of implied. Where ELSE would you hide a sword?]

Oh.

[...well... okay, fair enough BUT SHE DOESN'T LIKE DUH TONES so she immediately defends herself with a]

Well, in my house, nothing would be safe in the closet. I hope I don't have to hide a sword.
