[It takes some scheduling and brainstorming for excuses later - better to cut down on questions just in case, given that Naomi's unrelated to the school and her daughter's several years from high school - but soon enough everything is order. Naomi shows up at Locke High at a specified date and time, late enough that many people are no longer still at the school but early enough that the time won't look too strange.

She follows all the procedures, signing in at the office and doing her best not to attract attention, until she reaches the right classroom. She double-checks all her information to make sure she's at the right place and and knocks.]

[Lyall's ready and waiting, though the "lab" probably isn't up to her standards. He's got the microscopes set up on one of the lab tables beside the bunson burner and the sterile dishes for testing, the dissection kit and what little other equipment he has arrayed on the next lab table back. At the knock and the voice-- he has his earplugs out, so he can make her out clearly even though the door-- he calls over,]

The door's unlocked. Do come in.

[Oh, how very British. He winces at that one, himself.]

[Naomi opens the door and steps inside, first looking for Lyall and then taking a quick first glance at the lab. It's not the sort of quality she sees at work of course, but she'd come in knowing that and still...

There's an element of nostalgia to her voice.]

This brings back memories.

[professorwolf]

[He's already looking up as the door opens, and he looks a bit embarrassed at her comment.]

You did work in a high school biology classroom before?

[lightsoflife]

I went to high school, so of course. I had some good times back then, actually.

[She checks out a microscope, shaking her head a bit.]

It's not perfect, of course, but it beats trying to tiptoe around at the lab seeing if I can sneak looks at water samples while nobody's watching.

[professorwolf]

The police prowling about might be an issue, but if we come by after hours late enough, it shouldn't be too much of one. They aren't here in force, then.

[He steps back to give her room to investigate his tools. The microscope isn't corporate grade, but it's really not bad for that, anyway. It's obviously well taken care of-- and is, in fact, the least student-damaged specimen he has. On purpose, of course. He keeps this one for his best students and his own side work.]

Would you like to see the supply room, as well? It's really more of the same of this, but it might give you a feel for what all I have available.

[Naomi pokes around a bit more, taking mental inventory of what's available.]

Yes, I'd appreciate that. Better to know the resources available, after all. I'll keep that in mind regarding the hours.

[Yeah, definitely a bad idea to attract their attention.]

[Lyall shows her to the storage room door, in the front of the room beside the whiteboard. There isn't really much different there, indeed, just more of it, though there are also gloves, a number of different-sized containers, and a portable bunson burner, unlike the ones build into the lab tables.]

I don't mind coming in late, of course, as needed. I did myself, when I was studying those vermini creatures, and for one of my former students' blood.

I see.

[Blood? That's an interesting one.]

It might be more of an issue for myself, since I have a kid to take care of, but...hm, we'll see. There should be some way to work things out if necessary.

[And since she got that lighter the other day...]

This may seem like an odd question, but what protections against fire do you have in here?

[professorwolf]

Ah.

[He blinks at her in surprise.]

Well, none in particular. I have a fire extinguisher there.

[He gestures to the one attached to the wall on the opposite side of the blackboard.]

And the whole school is equipped with a sprinkler system. Dare I ask why?

Someone recently gave me a living lighter recovered from another among us. It's currently contained and I understand it's not supposed to be dangerous now, but originally it caused quite a bit of damage. I'd like to get a good look at it, but safety does come first.

[professorwolf]

Oh, really.

[He immediately thinks of Kallie and her house burning down, and winces.]

I imagine we could come up with something. I wouldn't mind having a look at that, either.

[Naomi catches the wince, but she's not sure whether it's because he knows the context or because fire is generally dangerous. Either is understandable.]

Good. If we were to do something I'd make sure to take precautions, of course. I don't think anyone wants more trouble.

Definitely not. I've had enough trouble to last me a lifetime, and some of it rather obviously, too.

[And yet, he knows there's more likely to come, as well.]

Do you have any questions, while you're here? About the lab, or the network, or what you might like to study here?

Not at the moment. I'll get back to you soon on the lighter, though - since it's already in my possession, I'd definitely like to put it on the table for investigation soon.

[It's a bit silly, but one really does have to qualify, these days. It seems like most of the people LYall knows outside his coworkers and students has a number. And even then....]

Yes, I've got it. I prefer the first for these matters, especially with the sort of people we're up against.
