Dr. Strider here. I'm back. I apologize -- personal business took me away from the city shortly before the Dead District bombing, and I've only just been able to return.

Has anyone discovered the culprits behind the explosion? I mean, we all suspect ThunderCorp and its allies, but has anyone been able to PROVE it? What about the bombs themselves -- have we been able to discern what the bombs were? Not an easy task, I'm sure, since of course the police will be keeping everyone out, but it's worth asking.

And what about the Tuning Towers buzzing?

Has anyone located the source?

[Aaron came back two days ago, looking -- well, looking not quite so bad as he did when he left. His first night here was sleepless, though; he has just as much on his mind as he did when he left.

He needs to speak with somebody about this, though. Somebody he knows won't spread this information around, someone who understands the dangers of panic. There had already been an ill-advised attack on Tuning Towers, for god's sake. He didn't want to think about what would happen if he told the whole host of numbered about what he knew.

Ravi was going to be that person, and when he came in, Aaron was busy with a patient. As soon as Aaron was free, though, as soon as all information had been exchanged and payment secured and the young woman was on her way, he went into the small, windowless room that served as an office, filed her information, then stuck his head out the door.]

Ravi? I need to talk to you for a minute.

[that's a little unexpected, and he doesn't comment on it, but he does lean back slightly. He's not exactly the constant eye contact type, anyway.]

Well, I'm afraid there's not much. Most of the materials dealing with the pre-colonial era aren't very detailed. But there was at least one historian that went into a little more depth. Apparently, this god that the natives worshipped...it was a giant snake with legs. Though I wonder if that means it doesn't count as a snake anymore... [the last bit is tacked on, wryly, before he continues.]

Honestly, I didn't think the information was that important until I remembered those statues in the art gallery, and how people were running into ones that attacked them.

[It seems like Aaron is talking to himself; he breaks eye contact, folds his hands and looks down at them, thoughtful.]

I'm not sure if the statues themselves had them...

[he trails off, trying to remember.]

Ah, and this must be connected to David Proud somehow.

[he's not sure how to take that, really. it's almost a compliment but the bitterness seems to imply otherwise. it seems like a no-brainer to him that if you're organizing something like this you should have an actual plan--but he's also known more than enough people who act on impulse alone and he can imagine them pulling that shit on a larger scale here all too easily.]

[the bitterness is probably directed toward something he wasn't a part of, that went wrong due to poor planning. but he is not going to address it, for fear of being corrected.]

[as for the question, he considers it seriously for a long moment, eyes downcast in thought.]

We've been inactive for a long time. This has been happening for six months now, and sometimes it feels like all we've been able to do is react. With that kind of information, the feeling of wanting to do something would override some's caution.

[a slow breath, his gaze drifts to the wall past Aaron. people are reckless and stupid and reactionary, he knows this well. put something new and strange in front of them and they will destroy it, one way or another.]

If we do find it while we are down there, what should I do? [he is...not entirely confident in his ability to stop a large group from doing something stupid, if it comes to that.]

He's a descendant of that tribe, isn't he? There was that article written about the gallery opening way back...even without that, two of those statues were of snakes. Especially considering what they did to people, there has to be some kind of connection.

I wonder what he knows.

I remember there was an attempt to find him, earlier this summer. But that ended in the cave, didn't it? The leads were fake.

[Aaron is definitely tickled by Elian's manner -- he's been constantly on edge since the buzzing began, but this conversation puts him at ease, at least a little.]

We'll have to discuss the merits of recreational use further sometime. For now, though, all I have for you is a leaf of a different kind. You needn't take any special care with it -- it's proven to be a tough little plant. From what I remember, those people who were unaware of its healing properties considered it a weed.

We will, especially if you know a local supplier. [he's been without it for some time, and while he's not exactly going through withdrawal, he does miss it.] Nonetheless, I shall take care of it. If there's any way I can tell how it got in to your possession, whether teleportation or simply manifestation...

[he shakes his head, making to put it away]

But that's all theory beyond even me.

Hm. How much do you know about the capabilities of your volunteers? Would any be able to act right then and there?

[An eyebrow goes up.]

I do indeed.

[Aaron knows Elian will tell him anything important that is discovered about the plant, and knows Elian knows he's grateful, so he pursues this line of conversation.]

While I'm strictly speaking out of the business now -- at least, in any significantly profitable sense -- procuring it for a friend is a different matter entirely.

[He has to think about that one. It's hard to say. He had plenty of people tell him their capabilities, but it really depends on the nature of what they find.]

[He can't really settle on a definite yes or no, because of that uncertainty.]

I know enough to say I can't be certain they aren't able to.

[and there's a light in Elian's face that matches the one when he originally saw the plant. science is one thing - but so is a certain relaxant!]
