when the crypt doors creak and the tombstones quake [open]

Who: Rachel and any and all guests and trick-or-treaters
What: HALLOWEEN PARTY
Where: Rachel's brownstone
When: Starting in the evening on Thursday, October 31.
Warnings: Halloween things. Power flareups. Drinking. Probably people misbehaving.

Rachel has been finishing up preparation all day. With the current condition of the city, it hasn't been easy to get everything, but it's done! Outside, the brownstone has jack-o'-lanterns glowing on the steps and stoop to welcome guests and visitors to the door.

Fake cobweb is stretched above the door and the atmosphere is right. Inside, music is playing, decorations are set, there are games to play, there are tables of food and drinks and a large bowl of Halloween candy by the door. The fun even extends to the backyard!

On the second floor, there's a room with a flatscreen TV and a big couch playing classic monster movies. Finally, there's a wet bar that she's trusting the adults to keep the kids out of.

The invitation is out, so all there is to do is wait.

Thomas sneaks up behind Pia, cape wrapped tight around him before springing up behind her and spreading his arms out like wings. "Bluh!"

It was your usual, off the rack, Dracula costume, but for some reason looked just a bit more realistic than it should. With a big smile he lowered his arms and gave a small bow. "Good eve-ning Pia." Thomas, naturally, said it in the most stereotypical vampire accent he could manage.

[Pia doesn't even jump, but cherry vodka and juice nearly comes shooting out of her nose from a sudden burst of laughter.]

Oh my god! HAhah, Thomas!! [She squeals, lunging forward and entangling him in a big hug] I knew you'd look great as Dracula, haha!

Who knows, maybe that's actually your preincarnate.

Thomas smiles and hugs her back, giving her a tight squeeze. "If you think so Pia. Doesn't really feel like me honestly." He gave a small shrug before taking a step back and looking over her costume.

"Wow Pia, you look amazing. Then again, that isn't that hard for you is it?"

Hahaha, shoosh. I just had this dress lying around, and I didn't really have to buy fake fangs or anything.

Well, I think your costume is awesome. Better than that cardboard monstrosity you had back home!

"Shh, lets not talk about that thing." He puts an arm around her shoulders and looks around the food table. "So, how has the party been so far? I miss much?" Thomas asks as he takes a bite out of one of her cookies.

Well if you've missed anything I wouldn't know. I only just got here. It seems pretty...tame, by New York standards. How's the cookie?

"I wouldn't know about New York style. I did expect a bit more from the big gothy author." Popping the rest of the cookie into his mouth, Thomas gives Pia a large smile. "Delicious. Didn't expect anything less honestly."

Good, if they sucked I would have taken them back to the store I bought them at, heh.

So is she really famous? I honestly have never heard of her.

"Well sort of? I don't read much anymore, but I'm aware of her." Thomas says as he grabs another cookie. He apparently has a bit of a sweet tooth. "She wrote that fantasy novel that was really popular with teens and frustrated moms a couple years ago."

Hmm. Maybe I'll go talk to her later...

Anyways how have you been the last few days?

"Me? I've been pretty good. Messing around with the background music thing I can do and I've learned a couple new things." He has a big smile on his face, actually being extremely excited about it.

Yeah? Tell me, tell me! [she smiles, subconciously running her tongue over her teeth as she watches him nibble on that cookie.]

Well, she wouldn't have to wait long for a demonstration. His eyes follow her tongue and his cheeks turn almost cartoonishly red. "Well, it also sort of words like general special effects I found. I also found out it only works if I'm holding that gun."

You actually get the dumbest echoes Thomas, do you know that? [She rolls her eyes, taking a long sip of her drink]

"Ouch. Yeah, I know though." The red in his cheeks goes to a normal shade before disappearing completely. Suddenly, a depressing mood in the air. "HEre's hoping the next one is better."

Oh, come on, you have to agree it's a little unhelpful. Imagine something like being able to shoot fire from your eyes. That'd be helpful.

"I'm ... not sure it works like that. Maybe if I practice more. So far it's just dumb sfx stuff." Thomas paused for a moment as he thought of some of the things a person can actually do with editing software. "Wonder if I can make things disappear?"
