06 | [Open] Please Come Help Kill This Monster
Who: Mort Yokugawa, the monster he accidentally created, and whoever wants to come help him stop the thing.
Where: Various places around town, with the actual fight taking place in a park somewhere.
When: Early evening, October 10.
What: Mort accidentally created a monster and needs help bringing it down. Subthreads for tracking the monster, fighting the monster, and the aftermath inside.
Warnings: Monster-fighting might get messy.
When Mort woke up that morning, he had no way of knowing that today would be the day he'd accidentally manage to create a monster. He still wasn't too sure what had happened; he'd been examining the silver medal that had appeared in his pocket while he was visiting the Towers after showing it to Asuka, a coin slot had appeared on another bit of junk someone had left on his desk earlier that day, the medal had gone into the slot and created a monster somehow, that monster had been standing there before him. It had become quite agitated at all the screaming (Mort could really yell if he had to), trashed Mort's office, and exited through a window, leaving Mort stuck with one very big problem. He hoped others on the network would be able to help him out, because even if he somehow managed to keep track of the thing, he had no way of bringing it down.
((OOC: And this is the promised log portion of Mort's monstrous misadventure, with the call to arms network post here. I am not concerned with tagging order in the least. I'd prefer to keep the actual fight with the monster contained to one thread, and I'll NPC it as necessary. Other than that, go nuts, have fun, and please wait until I get the three subthreads up before tagging.))

Instead, he activates his omnitool and waits.

It could see the others approaching it with items it didn't recognize. At least it didn't know what a gun was.

So, he was left with abandoning his plan and releasing his hold on the creature. His descent left him with several cuts in his skin and clothing, but he could worry about it later.
"Watch out for its cold mist!" He shouted. "It'll only use it if you attack it in close quarters!"
He snaps his fingers again, trying to produce another flame. It was taking longer than usual, but at the same time, he didn't have as much practice with it as his shadow ability.

The little bit of remaining time was spent reflexively covering her face and falling backwards to try and absorb the mace-punch. And it wasn't really enough time to avoid getting her armed solidly smashed into her face and go sprawling back.
The good news is she apparently distracted it, she's on the ground, and she's unconscious so she won't be trying that again.

The man on its back - who Nick recognizes now, and it only figures that it would be Xander - gives up his hold, and Nick doesn't let himself be concerned with who it is at the moment. He has a harder time ignoring the fact that the girl who'd been attacking it is now unconcscious, but it'll be easier to help her when the monster's no longer a threat.
With only one person left engaged with the monster, Nick has a very clear shot, and he takes it, firing his gun a few times at it.

The monster seemed to hesitate at the sight of its unwitting creator, but before it could decide what it wanted to do, Nick opened fire on it. It staggered back, almost comically windmilling its arms at each impact. Its hide is still pretty thick, and although it's taken some damage, it's nowhere near damaged enough to admit defeat. It's now trying to charge at Nick, because taking out the attacking party seems to be the best idea.

Ray distanced himself from the other gunman as much as he could and opened fire, unloading six rounds at the THING and kind of hoping in the back of his mind that it wouldn't decide to turn on him. But you know, whatever happens happens.

Once the barrage of bullets dies down, Richard changes the blocking strategy to one of attacking and rushes forward to deliver several well-aimed slashes at the creature's back. Maybe the close proximity is dangerous, but also necessary. One individual had already gone down; a second would not come so easily on his watch. Perhaps the sudden non-firearm being used in the attack might surprise it, as well.

He backs away as the monster charges at him, trying to stay ahead of it while also keeping it distracted, and waiting until the other man had finished shooting before firing at it again. That was - partially intentional, to keep it confused as to who to go after and give Richard the chance to go at it with a sword, and partially because he's temporarily distracted by the familiar heartbeat sensation of another pulse.
For the moment, he forces himself to ignore it, and fire another shot at the monster.

A rather morbid idea came to mind. He could break apart his replacement lighter (which was rather cheap and made of plastic) and use the fluid with his flame to burn its face. But the problem with this plan was that he would need to get quite personal with it again. There was also a risk of him getting burned and hit with a bullet if he went through with this. Followed by yelling and several lectures about his recklessness, but he pushes those thoughts of doubt from his mind.
He disappears in to the shadows again and makes his way towards the creature, while avoiding getting trampled on. He was set on climbing up it again, but with Richard's attacks, he needed to approach it from a different side. It didn't help that he needs to be quick about it, incase the monster decides on emitting more mist and hindering his progress.

It had yet to notice Xander, and, for the moment, seemed to have settled on trying to stop Richard's slashing attacks with a swing of its macelike fist. This left it open to attack from other directions.

Unfortunately, Nick's also out of ammo, and wishing he had a second weapon. He's always relied on hand to hand combat first, and his gun as back up, but now he's starting to wonder if maybe he shouldn't be exploring alternatives. Of course, that doesn't exactly help him at the moment, but - with the monster focusing his attention on Richard and the other gunman, Nick takes a moment to reload his gun.
And then goes back to carefully taking aim at the monster, this time shooting for the same arm that the other gunman'd shot at.

As soon as the focus shifts once again, Richard takes the chance to launch another attack. This time, he pushes himself forward with as much strength as possible. The sword is held straight ahead, if pulled back. Then, once within distance and using as much strength as possible, the sword gets thrust forward with the intent of piercing that already injured shoulder. It's a risky gamble, but a necessary one. Disabling one arm would make defeating it easier.

He splashes the creature's face with the lighter fluid, aiming for the eyes and mouth and quickly snaps the fingers of his right hand. It takes quite a few snaps before a flame appears and he applies it to the liquid, making sure it caught ablaze.
no subject
And seeing the thing use ice abilities makes him hesitant to try his own. Would they even work, or would it just shrug them off? Maybe it's better for him to stay out of it for the moment.
But he can at least get himself in front of the overprotective old guy and the knocked-out annoying girl in case they need a defense or something. And he'll get in front of them with a small burst of that speed ability he'd acquired in the mines; for all intents and purposes, it looks like he's teleported into that position.
no subject
Oh yeah, and now the monster's face was on fire or something.
Yeeeaaaaah, Ray was going to take this chance to move around the critter and try to get another angle on it.
no subject
It might have tried to attack Richard then and there were it not for the sudden distraction that was lighter fluid to the face, followed by the sudden distraction that was fire to the face. It stopped trying to attack anyone in particular and instead focused on slapping itself in the face with its good arm in an attempt to put the flames out. It released a few puffs of that cold mist, but they weren't looking quite as healthy as they had been.
Mort glanced over at Toushirou as he checked over Asuka. "You should get out of here, please!" He still didn't like a kid being nearby, especially when that kid seemed to want to protect him. He was already dealing with one unconscious adolescent, and he didn't want two on his hands.

"If something gets fired in this direction, you're useless. I'm not."
That's really all there is to it. Can't the guy at least be happy he's not charging the monster? Honestly.

Just as he's considering grabbing that flailing arm to extinguish his flame, he's hit with several weaker waves of mist. That was a good sign to retreat and he's done his part of assisting. He moves back in to the shadow he came from, climbing down and leaving from a side that wouldn't get him caught in the cross-fire.
