Sorry I've been off the grid lately, numbers club. No sense in hiding it anymore, I guess. I can't move my arm, and it's because of an echo. That means I can barely work and I definitely can't drive. I guess if nothing else, it's giving me killer legs. [she puts on a weak smile, and that might translate through to her voice, but it's gone as soon as it showed up.]

If anyone was planning on getting any mortuary benefits from me, that's kind of... off the table. At least for right now. I hear prosthetic technology is pretty good, if it comes to that. That's not why I'm finally getting back in touch, though.

I was downtown today and I could swear this ringing in my ears was getting worse the longer I was down there. And I haven't had tinnitus at all—I mean, okay, everyone has it, but mine hasn't ever been this bad. I got that favorite feeling of ours right before I started hearing it, so it could be because of some echo that I haven't figured out yet, but... I don't know.

Do you think one of you guys could head down there and corroborate this story? I'd go again myself, but I look really suspicious and I'm not exactly eager to draw the attention of any cops right now.

It's paralyzed and rigor-y. It's not a great way to be, but it's... no, there's no but, it just sucks. Anyway, I forget where exactly I was when it started getting worse. I just remember I was downtown, like, around where all the suits do their 9-to-5s. I'm pretty sure it was the same noise as the lights.

I'll look into it tomorrow after school.

And when you say rigory, you mean like it's actually dead? Or just busted up?

That's the mortis part you're thinking of. Rigor is just, uh, stiffness. If bodies turning to stone were even remotely a thing, I'd call it petrification.

I thought only stuff dying off caused it that bad? Unless you tore a muscle or something like that.

Apparently echoes can cause it too, now. I don't think they really obey the laws of nature. At least, not as we understand them.

Yeah, true enough.

Any idea what's causing it? Like what sort of echoback it was? Maybe a new arm replacing the old or something weird like that?

No idea. If something new is gonna grow in its place, I might prefer not being able to use it. I mean, my shoulder can still feel things. It would hurt there, if nowhere else. And probably really badly. And there's no guarantee it'll be any improvement anyway.

Does it hurt now?

It doesn't feel like anything now. Like my arm fell asleep, but in a malicious way. Wow, sorry, apparently I picked up the ability to be stupidly dramatic at some point, too.

A little drama with this mess isn't uncalled for, don't worry.

Did you have the clinic check it out?

Yeah. Luckily one of my friends was working there when I went and he did a really good job helping me, but as far as I can tell all I can really do is wait it out. Maybe it'll be better after this fake cast needs to come off.

No, Surya. I didn't know the clinic was so high-profile around here, but it's a good thing it is. I mean... I have seen some stuff happen. Have you gotten too unlucky yet?

I've been pretty lucky. I only've gone down there to check up on friends and stuff like that. Most my flashbacks are just memories. And one trench coat, for some reason.

Man. I wish I could be as lucky as some of you. Any theories about what this all is about? I'm just asking around. I like hearing theories. Woman of science and all.

We have more theories than sense! So far the most plausible is that a meteor carrying some sort of plot device mineral or whatnot landed here thousands of years ago and is putting off some syfy made for tv movie type effect that's causing us to remember being other people but only when we're in range.

So in other words, we got nothing. But it makes for good story spinning.

Hah. Definitely sounds like SyFy original movie material if you ask me. Keep an eye out for any sharknados.

What about the other people, though? I used to run on the assumption that they're all heroes, but lately I'm thinking they're all just people who had terrible lives, and we got reincarnated from them to, I don't know. Set right what once went wrong, and all that movie stuff.

Hey, you know what they say about the people who write history. But... really? Another world? That's definitely the most interesting theory I've heard about this whole situation. You might have something there. It would explain... well, a lot of things.

Only way to explain a lot of stuff. Someone I know remembers a lot of detailed stuff about Queen Victoria and werewolves, and that'd be hella hard to cover up, ya know?

Then there are the ones who have memories of being in outerspace and that hasn't happened yet here....

So... not only am I getting screwed out of all the good echoes, but I can't even remember a time or at least a world where we finally have spaceships? Wow. What god did I piss off to deserve this?

If it makes you feel any better, I dont' get any space ships either.

Which kinda sucks, I was totally looking forward to this turning into a mecha anime.

I wish I could make a joke here, but I haven't watched much mecha anime. Or much anime at all. I know a little bit, I guess? Like... that one with the guy who has that weird emblem in his eye. And the one with all the robots from different countries.

I am so cool.

You forgot the one about the thing that you need to find all the parts of to save the world.

Between those three, you've seen em all, basically.

Isn't that also every video game known to mankind, too? Don't get me wrong, it's a solid plot. We just need to come up with some more original stuff as a people. Maybe our collective ridiculous anime story will have a big twist in it that throws it all on its head!
